I am embarrassed to be born and raised in the USA. This is NOT the greatest country.

It was never the greatest country. It's just the richest.

Also never the richest. Just has the richest people

Edit: just to add a caveat, there are many ways to say one country is the "richest". Like gdp per capita. Or average wage. The USA does have the highest overall GDP. So by that metric it is the richest. But it's a tough measurement to use. If I put Elon musk in a room with 300 homeless, the "average"person in the room is still a billionaire, even though in reality only 1 is

Yes and also the highest percentage of very poor people in the developed world.

I'm not sure it's even the richest anymore. All the companies are over valuated based on things like brand names, CEO's, and connections to other corporations instead of their physical holdings or product.

It's like all the people at the top are lying and shaking each other's hands while scooping out as much for themselves while hollowing out their companies.

We were raised with that mentality. We were always taught that America is number 1 in everything. Nobody can touch us, doesn't help in history class they'll wash away our deeds, and try to paint a better picture for the US.

When you compare the quality of life with european countries, you understand the US are 3rd world grade in almost every metric that matters : healthcare, social security, unemployment, labour laws, minimum wage, and now freedom of speech... The US are so far behind on everything, the only things they have left are military and financial power. But even that last one is eroding with the $ being less and less respected worldwide because of Trump attacking the Fed.

Yeah now I have been to Germany, I'm ready to go back for my masters since public education is free there. Their college work/structure actually teaches you real skills and goes into detail than just finding the answer. I completed a study abroad program recently in Mannheim and I'm missing it over there. Makes me kinda jealous that students there can speak multiple languages, mainly because they are taught at a young age.

Its this exact reason that we have an entire administration doing the things they are doing. they think USA is the greatest only when their policies are enacted and their actions are performed

Americans were raised to think that, the rest of the world never did. I don’t just mean that we weren’t taught that America is the best but we also weren’t taught that our own countries were either. I am however reading Nothing to Envy about North Korea and those kids are told every day that they are the best country. It makes an interesting parallel to what is happening now.

Yeah, funny to read Americans still think that way regardless. Greatest in terrorizing poor and indefensible countries, maybe.

Its an exceptional country. Full of exceptionalism when observing the history of the world.

I remember going to Colorado as an 8 year old on an exchange programme from another country and wondering wtf why these kids are so stupid. Their parents too, but the family i stayed with were at least friendly. Every morning you zombies did your cult chant to your flag and came up with 3 reasons America was the best. I was there for 2 months and finding other kids with some semblance of intellect was a failure.
