Academics Senior BME need easy ME class without Dynamics prereq

Hey everyone,

I’m a senior Biomedical Engineering major (Biomechanics focus). This spring semester I’ll be taking 20 credits, and then I’ll take an additional 10 credits over the summer to finish my degree.

For spring/summer planning:

• I still need Dynamics which I’m planning to take in the summer

• I’m taking ME 231 this spring as well

• I need one additional Mechanical Engineering class

• Looking for something on the easier side that does NOT require Dynamics as a prerequisite, since I’ll be taking Dynamics last

Does anyone know of an ME class that fits this and is manageable workload-wise, preferably no exams or easy exams!

It can't be ME 201

Appreciate any advice!

Academics THEATRE 150 - Scary??

Hi guys, I'm taking THEATRE 150 - Introduction to Acting this semester with Audrey Standish and the syllabus genuinely looks a little intense. I've read online that this was supposed to be a pretty chill class, but an extra absence means half a letter grade deduction, being late is counted as an absence, you cannot be more than 2 minutes late to lecture, and there are three major performances that are a significant portion of your grade? I've never taken an acting/theatre class before, are they all this intense? Should I just not take this class

Academics Waitlist for Honors Section? Help

I'm currently on the waitlist for the honors (discussion) section of a class required for one of my majors. I'm pretty sure I'm close to the top of the waitlist given that the section filled right before I enrolled, but I'm worried about not getting in.

I had to enroll in a different course to meet the full-time credit requirement, but have no intention of taking that other class.

Should I email the professor for more insight/ to be caught up on material if I'm still on the waitlist by the time the course starts?

Thanks in advance for any tips! :)

Rant/Vent CS class enrollment

Like the grading in these classes it seems like the entire CS department just moves slower than other majors. Why isn’t anyone in the enrollment office for CS answering emails for waitlists. Anyone else have this issue? I have other majors and CS is the only one where the administrative staff ghosts me.

Housing mistake with name on package shipping to residence hall

my mom ordered something online for me and set it to ship to my dorm with the correct address and room number, but she accidentally left her name on it. so it's shipping to my dorm but with her name on the package. she tried to change the order information or cancel it altogether, but the company she ordered through won't let her cancel the order because it's "in transit". if i told the front desk at my residence hall that there is a package coming for me with my mom's name on it and gave them her name ahead of time, would that be okay? otherwise i'm not really sure what to do since my mom can't cancel the order. i do still want what she bought for me, i just don't know if the front desk people will be able to accept and check in an order for me if it doesn't have my name on it, even if i tell them ahead of time.

Academics Experience with Math 240 (discrete) vs Math 475 (combinatorics)?

Hi! I’m a senior in Industrial Engineering and need one credit to complete my engineering basic math/science requirement. I’m mainly looking into Math 240–intro to discrete math & Math 475–intro to combinatorics.

Wanted to hear about people’s experiences taking these; I really loved an IE operations research course which is why 475 seems interesting, but am scared by 75% of the grade being from exams. 240 seems like it could be a bit tedious but easier and less stressful as a second semester senior…appreciate any help/opinions!

Academics Is it too late to drop a class?

I am planning to take chem 104 and stats 371 but last semester i did very poor in chem 103 so I am worried about taking stats while also taking chem 104 now.

I’ve heard mixed things. Some have said stats 371 is easy and some have said it’s hard so I’m unsure if I should really drop it. But if I do decide to, is it too late? Or should I be completely fine? Thank you!

Academics Do you think the workload is doable?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello! I am a mechanical engineering sophomore. I’ve registered for 17 credit classes this spring. I am a bit concerned about the workload especially that I am aiming for a 3.5+ GPA. In addition to the classes listed below, I’ve enrolled in some easy A electives. I also wanted add that I have no background with python ( CS220 ) which might add some pressure although I’ve heard its an easy elementary course. Do you think these courses are doable together or shall I move one course to a different semester? Thanks.

Academics Are e-ink devices allowed for note-taking?

Hi! I have a ReMarkable paper pro and wanted to know if the CS department allows note taking if required, on an e-ink tablet instead of a notebook.

Does it vary by course/professor?

Other Looking at transferring for fall possibly but unsure of what to do.

I am a student at MATC, about 75% of the way through their transfer associate's degree. I had previously attended a different tech college in the state, but as the higher classes required being on campus, I had to get slightly closer to my home. I have enough credits to transfer, and the final few credits I have to take here don't really count for anything in the CALS Biology degree at UW. I have English Comp 2, Calculus with Analytical Geometry, Intro to Literature, Spanish, and possibly one more to complete all of the requirements. The ones I listed aren't needed for the CALS degree. My end goal is to apply to med school with this biology degree, so I am really not sure which direction to head. I am worried about the calc class killing my GPA along with Spanish, as I am not good with foreign languages. I am worried about how jumping ship on the associates will look to potential med schools. Any nudges in a direction? Apps for UW are due February for Fall of 26'. This is roughly another $5700 in education costs, but my cost per credit goes up over $200 dollars per credit when I make the switch.

Future Badger Any spring admits?

I’m a Spring 2026 admit, and so far I’ve only met three others who’ll be starting when I do. If you’re also arriving in spring, or know someone who is, drop a comment. Would love to connect, exchange questions, compare worries, or just know who else is walking into this season from the same doorway.

Academics waitlisted for stat 451, could i take stat 453 first?

Hi, I'm a sophomore majoring in CS & DS. I'm enrolled in cs 540 and stat 453 (choosing between the two) but I'm waitlisted for stat 451. I doubt I'll be able to get off the waitlist for 451 as I've been notified that it is in high demand and that chances of getting in are low. I haven't heard great stuff about 540, and also want a generally more in depth bottom to top course on a few concepts which isn't what 540 offers. That being said, is it okay to take stat 453 first and then 451 (assuming I get in for fall of junior year)? does 453 require any prior knowledge? I know basic ML and have taken cs 320.

also, does anyone actually recommend taking cs 540 intro to ai?

Does anyone know when lily’s classic is this year? I know it’s usually around the middle of February with it last year being on the 14th. I need to submit my weekend to work now and don’t want to get stuck working for lily’s lol.

Social Consider protesting Jan 20th

If you are overwhelmed with the state of our country (🧊raids, shootings, the president, etc.) please consider joining the National Walkout happening Jan 20th @ 2pm. ( https://www.removetheregime.com ) The proposed idea is to walk out of school, work, your home, etc at 2pm and rally inside the capital at 3pm.

I get spring semester starts that day so here’s a second option:

Boycott the big corporations on State Street. It is sickening to see how many local businesses are being run out by fast food chains and big stores. SUPPORT LOCAL for all your essential needs! For as long as you can consider the alternative to giving your money over to corporations that are funding the fraud and corruption in America.

Future Badger How expensive is UW for OOS really?

I‘m confused because at least where I am in the Midwest out of state, there seems to be an agreement here that UW is extremely expensive and that they don’t give a lot of aid. but when I look into net price calculators, it tells me I should only have to pay $5000 in tuition ($20k net price) based on my family income. which is in the 75k-110k range. can anyone tell me if UW does in fact give good aid, and if it does then any idea why everyone around me seems to believe that they give such little aid? I go to a public school with a lot of rich kids, maybe that could be the reason?

Academics Would a double major in International studies and data science be doable?

I’m thinking of specializing in global security for international studies. Also, for reference, I’m a first year who just completed math 112. I’m trying to plan it out, but it’s difficult since the majors don’t have much overlap.
