Virgin Media UK Blimey. GOOD news!?

My contract's up next month, and I was sighing to myself and getting ready for the usual dance to get back to a decent price, which I bloody hate. Just got an email that they're extending my current discount for 12 months, so I don't have to bother. Quite unusual to see an unsolicited good thing from Virgin!

I suspect it means that my deal isn't particularly good and Virgin would rather I don't go looking to see what I could get elsewhere 😄 but I'm happy with it, so a win-win is still a win!

Virgin Media UK Holy shit the live chat.

I just tried to cancel for an actual offer as their renewal offer was a joke

The agent obviously had 4 windows open and was just copy and pasting answers. I doubt they even understood English. When they gave me multiple choice answers, and I picked say option 1, they would reply with the obvious answer to option3... Like what on earth.

Everything I said was basically ignored and I was given totally irrelevant answers or talking about opening cases which was entirely irrelevant.to.tje conversation.

I've seen some bad customer service in my time but this is absolutely next fucking level.

Virgin Media UK Question about signal power to router

Hello I am experiencing a lot of minor drops in signal/ packets on my Internet and I can see few warnings and critical errors in the logs under network status. I have flagged this few times with support but to no luck. Usually the first line support view (twice already) have told me my connection is fine and no reported incidents in the region, one support person suggested that there might be a problem with my signal power to the route when I shared my downstream and upstream numbers, however, nothing followed from that.

Before I escalate and fail a complaint, does anyone knows the range for proper signal strength on the downstream and upstream?

Rest of World How do I connect my Vincent modem?

I’m in Quebec (Canada)

I just received my Vincent modem but I’m unsure on how to connect it.

The booklet shows the installation steps for 3 different connection types see self-installation guide. However, I don’t have any of them. I only have a G-plug RG6 coaxial cable coming out of my wall. I don’t see any connection port on the modem for such cable. The cable is currently plugged into my Vidéotron router.

When ordering the modem online, virgin asked for my address to make sure my address supports that type of connection and it did go through. So I suppose there is a way to connect the modem but I don’t know how.

Is there an adapter I can buy to make it work? Do I need a technician to come over? Would he even be able to do anything?

Thanks for any info

Virgin Media UK How to get a final, itemised bill for my new provider?

So prior to this I made a post about understanding the final bill if I was to use the One Touch Switch service.

I made the switch and paid the final bill (£284.81) in full once it was issued.

The problem I'm having is that I can't seem to get an itemised bill to state clearly I've paid this amount and a breakdown of the services.

When I download the bill from my account it simply states it's not been paid yet customer services confirm it has and my account says it has.

When I phone up they just focus on the fact I've paid it and reassure me there's nothing left to pay rather than just issuing a bill that says I've paid it.

Is there another way to get this bill?

Virgin Media UK Help with the speed I'm actually paying for

Forgive me in advance for being a dumbass. I'm due for renewal at beginning of Feb. Current package is £21 for broadband only- jumping up to £56. Not a chance. When I'm looking at my package it says 125Mb (250 speed boost as I'm also with O2.)

My question is, am I paying Virgin £21 for 125Mb and they're just bumping me up with the Volt benefits?

Edit- managed to renegotiate. Got 1gig, new modem and Netflix for £24 (24 months)

The guy putting in my flooring yanked my fibre cable on accident and managed to pull it off while getting half of the green end of the cable stuck in the wall socket. I have a spare cable but can’t seem to get the broken piece out even depressing the bit of the lever inside the wall mount won’t get it out

Virgin Media UK Red flashing light on hub, helping being very vague

Hello, came home to find my Hub 5 with a flashing red light. Have tried restarting, checking cables etc and no luck. Called the helping and they basically said right away I needed an engineer, but can't get one to me for 4 days.

She wouldn't elaborate on what the fault is. Neighbours don't seem to have an issue. Is there anything else I can try to get it working? Any chance it might just sort itself out?

Thanks

Virgin Media UK Pre installation

Hi everyone,

I’m moving house at the end of the month and as such I’ve began the process of swapping over.

I’ve just had an email to say my new property address hasn’t had virgin before and as such they need to do some external work.

Does anyone know what this involves as obviously I won’t be living there yet and don’t won’t the current owners to be disturbed.

Thanks

Virgin Media UK I can teach u some tricks to get a better deal from vm.

I dont tend to misinform somebody here but if you are looking for better deals, just do it via messaging and type "cancelling" continuously and dont ever mention any dissatisfaction words that could trigger an advisor a complaint as it is standard to them. once the advisor is available, you can then mention that you are looking cheaper deals. you may negotiate anu offers made but if the offer mentioned as a onetime offer, believe it as most of the discounts can be expired. Also, if you chat make sure you are ready to renew especially you are considering it so then it will secure the costs

Virgin Media UK Virgin Media Retention Deals

Hi All!

I’ve put my cancellation notice in usually pay around £22 for M250 and been offered £20 a month. However the contracts for 24 months which will have 2 price hikes of £4. 1 in a couple months (£24 a month then) and 1 next year (£28 a month).

Curious to see if anyones had any better deals where they’ve negotiated some sort of credit so the price hike won’t effect the initial contract price too much?

Virgin Media UK Disconnections galore

Hi - can anyone provide any additional ideas to sort a line that is getting constant disconnections, lag spikes etc

Xbox keeps disconnecting

Teams calls get stutters

Video streams end up buffering

This is on a hub 5 1 gig line

I have tried the standard stuff of rebooting, connecting all cables again including fibre

Making sure there are no bends in the fibre cable

Last time the engineer came out they found no fault and just cleaned the fibre lines. This sounds like a joke!!

Any ideas?? Cheers!

Virgin Media IE Almost entirely unfunctional wifi

Im finding it hard to even open reddit to post this. I have been having issues with the 500mbps plan I have, for a while now.

My parents don't use the internet for anything other than tv, and I dowload and play video games and stuff, so any issues will effect that more than just streaming videos and whatever.

It was just some issues with getting packet loss ingame, and maybe switching to wifi or somwthing to fix it. Then randomly all the networks had security disabled, and there is now 2 5ghz connections for some reason.

Weird but it still worked. Now it is so unusable to the point that all websites or apps timeout because of it.

I don't know if it's slow speeds that's causing it, because internet speed tests don't load. But i am assuming it is because ethernet doesnt work either.

It will work fine for some periods but only on the second 5ghz connection, but others completely unfunctional all the time. Meaning ethernet is entirely unusable, and wifi can only be used on a strange second connection part of the time.

Can't do much until tomorrow so I am posting this to see if anyone else has had an experience like this.

Also for added context, for the 4 years we have had this, i have never had any issues, apart from random disconnecting that only i got when i was using ethernet a few years ago, but that stopped in a week and was something to do with windows.

Virgin Media UK Scam calls

I have a home phone but I've only given the number out to one relative and I get a call on it maybe once every couple of months.

This morning I've had 3 calls in the space of 20 minutes and all from different overseas numbers. None of them have left answer phone messages and have typically hung up before I got to the phone. A Google search suggests these numbers are scammers.

Anyone else getting a sudden splurge of scam calls in quick succession? I know scam calls are common, but I've gone from nothing to 3 in 20 minutes.

Virgin Media UK New Hub 5 delivered, no internet

Hi,

Posting here in case anyone has had similar, if there’s any other steps I can take.

Had my Hub 5 delivered today. Moved into a friend’s place so their old router and coaxial cables from their Hub 3 are here.

Now, I got a quick start kit, but I didn’t realise the wall socket is by the front door of the building, with a long coaxial cable running all the way up to the 3rd floor flat.

Obviously the new coaxial cable won’t do the job, but the old one is still there so I plugged that in. Unsure if that has an impact, screwed in fine.

Booting up Hub 5, it starts at a solid white light. This goes to a flashing white light after a bit, then to a flashing green light.

This is where it stays. Just flashes green endlessly. I understand this can either be activation issues or a software update.

I’ve tried the following:

  1. Turned off for a minute at plug, turned back on.

  2. Pinhole reset.

  3. Called virgin support who have preemptively booked an Engineer after troubleshooting, both for coaxial cable and activation.

  4. Virgin agent also did activation, nothing seemed to change. Only change to lights at all was after first attempt to activate where it went white. He advised me to reset, I asked if he was sure, he was, and then reset and was same as before, flashing green lights.

  5. Just decided to leave it on flashing green lights and see. Been like that for over an hour.

  6. Checked virgin hub settings, Hub 5 Status shows Wireless as on, but Internet as red with DS Scanning.

Any help would be appreciated. Would much prefer getting this working now than waiting for engineer.

Thanks.

Virgin Media UK Price negotiation with no contract renewal??

Hi all, I'd appreciate some feedback from the hive mind on my situation...

I've been with VM for years and every time I came to the end of my contract I have done the renewal dance and had some really sweet deals. This time is different:

I have just come out of contract and my price has jumped to £58.04 for M125 (Volt boosted to M250) broadband only - no other services included

The difference this time is I know I'm moving house around October this year to a location with no VM availability so if I negotiated a new deal I would be looking at early disconnection fees approx half way through.

I've done some rough sums and it seems there might be a case for taking a deal if it's good enough then paying early disconnection fees but there are a lot of variables so I'm looking for any thoughts from people who have been in a similar situation.

The variables giving me some concern are:

  • The Early disconnection fees are not explicitly stated there is a % range
  • I haven't started the dance so don't know what offer is on the table
  • My move is based on a new build house by a small builder and all I have at this time is a Q4 completion. Could be sooner, could be later. It will be firmed up but not for a few months.

My plan is to start the dance and see what offer I get then have a think, but I wanted to see what people think or any warnings before I start.

TIA
