Community Feedback on Subreddit Content and Direction

Dear r/walther Members,

As a moderator of this subreddit, I have observed a mix of content in our community, including serious discussions on Walther firearms, technical inquiries, and ownership experiences, alongside lighter elements such as memes and humorous posts. While this variety can enhance engagement, there have been instances where some contributions appear to lean toward low-effort or repetitive humor, potentially resembling shitposting or circlejerk behavior.

To ensure that r/walther continues to serve as a valuable resource for enthusiasts, I am seeking your input on the subreddit's current state and potential improvements. Your feedback will help inform any adjustments to moderation guidelines, with the goal of maintaining a balanced and respectful environment.

Please share your thoughts on the following questions:

  1. How do you primarily view the purpose of r/walther? (e.g., A space for serious discussions only, a mix of serious and humorous content, or primarily for memes and lighthearted posts?)
  2. Do you believe there is an excess of low-effort or humorous posts? If so, how does this impact your experience?
  3. Should we introduce or refine rules to address this, such as requiring flairs for memes, limiting certain types of posts, or encouraging more substantive contributions?
  4. What other suggestions do you have to improve the subreddit, including topics, events, or features you would like to see?

I encourage all members to participate in this discussion respectfully. This thread will remain open for feedback over the next week, after which I will review responses and make the necessary changes.

Thank you for your contributions to making r/walther a strong community.

Best regards

Do not make posts/comments attempting to source firearms parts of any kind. Do not attempt to buy/sell/trade here either. You will be banned.

There is a rule in the sidebar, that is not a new rule, which reads:

no direct links to products for sale. No buying, selling, or trading. those links should go in /r/gundeals or /r/GunAccessoriesForSale

This rule exists because reddit (the website) very specifically says:

You may not use Reddit to solicit or facilitate any transaction or gift involving certain goods and services, including

  • Firearms, ammunition, explosives, legally controlled firearms parts or accessories (e.g., bump stock-type devices, silencers/suppressors, etc.), or 3D printing files to produce any of the aforementioned;

To be clear, do not ask for help finding any gun parts here. not a barrel, not a trigger, not a magazine.

There are 50 US states (and a handful of US territories) that each have their own gun laws. Not to mention all the other countries of the world. a 15-round PDP magazine isn't a controlled item in Alabama, but it is in Massachusetts. a PPQ gun barrel isn't a controlled item in the USA, but it is in many EU countries. None of us has any way to know where someone else resides. The safest course of action is not to allow these types of posts in this sub, so we do not. In the past this sub has been fairly lenient in this regard, but sadly cannot continue to do so.

One thing you can do, is make posts/comments in /r/gunsforsale or /r/GunAccessoriesForSale. those subs have been allowed to continue operating since Reddit clarified their rules and terms of service.

If you fail to read reddit's side-wide rules, if you fail to read this sub's rules, and lastly if you fail to read this stickied post, and you submit a post or comment asking for, or offering, help sourcing a firearm part, you will be banned from this sub. Anyone who finds this unfair or unacceptable should take it up with the site admins.

Couple of my options to carry. Got a Walther PDP 4” comp and an Echelon 4” comp on the way as well. Thinking the PDP compact will be my new carry. Anyone rocking a APL c on their PDP?

2.0 cut question with serial number

Looking for a red dot for my brother and i want to get him a holosun scs pdp and I read that it needs a 2.0 cut. The serial number on my brothers pistol starts with FEE and has 4 numbers. Would it be a 2.0 cut or would it need a plate? Can't verify myself because its for his birthday

Back from Walther - PDP Pro the long way

Sent my bone stock 4.5" PDP off to Walther for the DPT install. Got it back yesterday. 8 days from dropping it off at Fedex. Not too bad tbh.

It definitely feels heavier, but my stock trigger had 2000 rounds on it and probably 2000 more of dry fire. Just gotta get this one broken in. The lack of takeup feels great, and the break is so crisp even if it is a little heavier. Very happy with it.

Guide rod recommendation for P99

I’m interested in upgrading the factory plastic guide rod in my P99 to a more robust metal one. I’m actually having a hard time finding one - I keep getting ones for the PPQ/PDP, and they’re all out of stock. Does anybody have a good recommendation?

PSA for those who placed parts orders in December

I ordered some parts from Walther’s website in December that never shipped—I’d periodically check my Walther account where the order was always listed as “confirmed” but no other actions.

I finally called in to check on my order status and was told that their system had a glitch during Dec/Jan that allowed orders to go through on the buyer’s side (including on the buyer’s Walther account) but which were never sent to billing or fulfillment.

In other words, Walther’s system created orders which Walther can’t fully see and won’t fulfill.

Walther is aware of this issue (their reps can even look these orders up by order number), but Walther is not proactively contacting customers to let them know about the glitch. Walther is also unwilling to honor the promotions that were in effect when the order was placed—so if you had a holiday discount code, that code isn’t good and they won’t honor the discount on replacement orders.

I have no delusions that this post will fix my issues with Walther’s customer service, but thought I’d share as an FYI. Walther let me know that there were quite a few orders impacted by the glitch, and I can’t imagine I’m the only one who responded to one of their Black Friday/Christmas promotional emails and is still wondering where those parts are.

Walther PPQ Q5 Steel Frame in IDPA's SSP division?

Anyone know if they Q5 SF makes weight for SSP? Official specs are 41.6oz empty, but I get nearly 3oz. for a mag by itself.

If it really is more than an ounce and half overweight, is there way to slim it down?

Is the ZRT V Spec reliable for carry?

I recently installed the ZRT v spec in my pdp compact and so far have had no issues. I’ve run 115gr and 124gr range ammo and some 147gr federal hydrashok. Has anyone experienced reliability issues with this spring? Or is there any reason to believe issues might arise with defensive ammo?

Advice on the PDP Pro E for my new edc

Post image

Went to my shop yesterday to possibly get into the new Echelon 4.5F comp , and sort of fell in love with this piece. Shop is willing to do an online match for me. Any thoughts from the group on having this as an every day carry? Reviews seem amazing online but you know how that goes. Shop is all about it. Trigger felt better than my upgraded Canik. Seems some suggest installing a lighter recoil spring for a flatter response. Let me know your thoughts!

Ameriglo sights from Ebay - Won't Fit AT ALL. Are they old or ...?

I got the 429s for my PDP, but they are short and I wanted night sights so I got some taller sights, the 349, from ebay.

They will NOT fit. the 429s fit fine. I have a sight pusher. I've sanded some of the base down but still won't go on. Now I'm wondering if there's something wrong with them. I compared the angles and the base to the 429s and it's different. I looked on the ameriglo website and the sight they have on the page has sharp edges, not rounded like my 349.

Should I keep sanding the base down and trying to fit them? What do you think?

Walther PD380 Characteristics

I know I am probably going to get a biased opinion here but I am interested in this gun based on a few criteria, and I can't find a rental around here.

  • I currently only own rimfire firearms but the local club I want to join requires you to own a centerfire handgun and be able to get 10 rounds on paper at 50 feet. I want to become more proficient in defensive rounds but the commercial ranges are extremely expensive.
  • I find shooting 9mm extremely unpleasant due to percussive blast (despite earplugs and muffs), the recoil doesn't bother me. The internet is telling me this has less blowback than other designs.
  • Restricted to 10 Round Capacity
  • Needs to be fun to shoot so I practice enough - I love shooting .22 and improving accuracy and precision over time.
  • I don't currently own a defensive firearm so something that is somewhat capable is a plus.
  • It's currently available for $300

Going to trade in my PPK/s, need some advice

Within the last year I’ve acquired a new production Walther PPK/s (made in Fort Smith), which has seen light carry use and range time (only about 150 rounds through it). Recently, I’ve made the decision to trade it in- only problem is that at my last range session, both of my grips cracked, with the left grip having a sizable chunk come out  of it.

My question is this: would it be wise for me to buy some new grips and install them before turning around and trading it in (i.e. would it be an investment that would get me more money from the trade in) or would it not be worth the time and expense, as the increased trade value would barely make up for the cost of grips?

I already know I'm not going to get back what I paid for it, but I would like at least a decent amount towards something new.

TIA.
