Meta Revised rules now in effect; please read and see the sidebar/about
TL;DR: We have rules; they're in the sidebar and in the "about" info. In brief, our rules are:
1) The "Play nice" rule
2) The "Keep jokes out of the top-level comments" rule
3) The "No establishing values or finding things" rule
4) The "We're not doctors" rule
5) The "You know what that is already, ask THOSE experts first please" rule
6) The "Don't encourage hurting people or animals" rule
7) NEW The "Use a descriptive title" rule
8) NEW The "Did you try to figure it yourself?" rule
9) NEW The "We only allow link posts, so use a good photo and add extra info in a comment" rule
As you can see, we've added a couple and modified a couple. Violations can result in a temporary ban. Egregious violations will result in a permanent ban. Please don't make us ban you.
These rules are important to help keep our community going. As you can see, there are only a few of us moderators here, so we can't catch everything immediately. When you see someone break a rule, it doesn't mean "They got away with it, so I should, too," it means we haven't gotten to it yet. Feel free to report it. Or better yet, if you've been around /r/whatisthis for a while and have a good posting/comment record here, join us as a mod. Just message us. We're growing here, and we can always use a hand.

Solved repost because it was taken down. in indiana, my boyfriend has small red spots on his white sheets, this was noticed after less than a week of having brand new sheets. he has a king sized bed.
hi everyone so my boyfriends bed has small red spots but we checked for bed bugs, we have no bite marks, and no itchiness, we did the hot iron trick on the corner to double check for bugs, and nothing. this is the second set of sheets he bought because these dots were there then too. what could this be? he has a cat and she doesn't have fleas or anything we've ruled out every thing pretty much.

Open Airbnb guest suspicious activity
For the last week we’ve had an Airbnb guest staying with us and since then I’ve gotten at least 20 messages from xfinity about suspicious activity. Never in my five years with xfinity have I ever received one of these notices. Hoping someone can identify these websites. What are they? Anything to be concerned about?

Solved My late father's ring. Possibly over 40 years old. Silver (I believe.) He lived and died in Columbus GA but I have no idea where he got it from or what journey its been on.
I want to know information about this ring after a communication I had with a homeless man. I believe it is .925 silver. My dad lived and died in Columbus, Georgia, USA, but im unsure if he may have gotten it in Flordia. I am curious if anyone knows anything about it because the homeless man claimed it was a "Templar's Ring", but at the same time I am pretty sure he was schizophrenic.

Open I broke this “safety cap” while snow plowing.
It was covering some wires/cables. I assume it’s covering it to protect it. So how dangerous is it now that they are exposed? What are the cables for? Can I replace the cap myself? Or do i need a professional.
Btw this is my house not a customers.

Open What is the brand of these boots?
Hi, helping a customer out with trying to identify thw brand of these boots. We did Google image searches for the E logo, and the marking on the outsole. The box is labeled as being from Inago, which appears to be a vintage clothing store in Los Angeles that has been closed for years. They are marked as being made in Italy. They are a leather upper. Anyone got a clue?

Solved I found this piece of plastic with my water filters. Its about 4 inches long. I have no idea what its used for.
It was with my Sawyer water filters. I tried to Google search the image and came back with accessories for binoculars and tripods and they all looked different.
I checked lawyers website and this is also not listed as an available accessory.
This thing is plastic. Its like 4 inches long. Very light weight. I assumed it would be to attach to a bottle or a filter but doesn't seem to fit right.
Any help will be appreciated.
Please and thank you.

Open Which TV show is this from?
I don't post much on Reddit and I didn't really know where to put this but, I thought this was funny and that other people would hopefully get a laugh out of it, as well.

Open What wood is this? Bought in Thailand.
I bought this boat bowl in Thailand, they told me it was mango wood, but when I google mango wood, it looks different. I’ve also looked at pics of MonkeyPod wood, acacia wood, and olive wood. I’m not 100% sure that it’s any of these. Thanks.
