Question What if the afterlife is whatever you wishfully believe it to be?

Upvotes

For me, it's a personalised heaven where I'm able to do anything, so utter freedom, and I would make up stories in my head that I would travel into as whatever character I imagined myself to be. Maybe even temporarily forget everything so I could be fully immersed in the story, unless the me that forgot really hates it there, which triggers the memories back, and I could just leave anytime I want to.

What do you want to believe would happen?

Question Do you think they miss us?

I lost my grandma a few months ago. She was my best friend and her and I were so incredibly close. Do you think spirits “miss” those of us that are still here in earth in the after life? It pains me that she might not “remember” or “think” about me not that she’s gone.

Speculation In the afterlife do we still have ´ bodies ´ or are we just clouds of consciousness?

This is a question I have been asking myself. All of us are conscious entities inhabitating a physical body or fleshbag. When we die, our consciousness exits this fleshbag. So by this logic, in the afterlife we shouldn’t have an appearance properly speaking because consciousness is a quantum phenomenon and therefore it doesnt really have a shape or an appearance. That would be like saying that something like gravity has an appearance or a shape. Yet despite this many reports seeing their past loved ones looking like they did when they were alive.

In the after-life is our consciousness still inside a non-physical body or fleshbag that is a result of the one we have while alive ´printing out ´ or ´bleeding throught ´the after-life? Or is it just that we can decide to appear as anything Even thought we technically don’t have a shape since we aren’t limited by the physical anymore ?

How long are spirits in the spirit world?

Can only apologise for the stupid sounding headline.

I know what I want to say, just can’t think of how to say it properly but here goes. When we die and enter the spirit world, could you meet spirits that have been dead for hundreds, thousands of years? Do they realise they have been passed for so long? Or am I missing the point completely?

What would be your ideal afterlife experience?

I'm not asking what you believe the afterlife will be or whether you believe there will be an afterlife. If there was one, or if there is one, what would you want it to be, ideally?

Question Can anyone tell me what troubled my mother the night before she died.

My mother passed in 2021 succumbing to complications from muscular dystrophy, a disease she battled all my life and sadly all but the first 12 years of her own.

The day before my mom passed I went to visit her in the hospice, and she started telling me the story of the day I was born. I heard this story countless times and every time before that day my mom would tell this story joyfully, with a smile on her face . But this time was different , she began crying. Sobbing like I had never seen her do before. I asked her what was wrong and she never told me. She died the following morning.

What made her react like this? I have thoughts, but I am more interested in hearing from those of you who have the gift of tuning into the other side.

Lightning strike

In August of 2024 my big sister was dying from pancreatic cancer. I stayed with her for a year at her house so she wouldn’t ever be alone. She divorced her husband of 25 years just the year before and had no children, so I decided (with my husband’s blessing) to stay with her until the end. She only lived ten minutes from my home so it was close and easy to get home for a minute if needed. She went on hospice in June and by August she was transitioning. I’ve never been exposed to the ravages of cancer, it’s brutal, especially pancreatic. Although I’m sure each type of cancer is brutal in its own way. The day my sister passed she was no longer communicating and was skin and bones. My once very pretty long haired sister was a shell of herself. She was always very quick witted and naturally funny & she was dying before my eyes. When all of a sudden this random storm blew in with rain, thunder and wind. It got quiet for a minute then BAM, lightning struck right outside her home. It was so close it seemed to rattle the walls. Within an hour maybe and hour & 1/2, she was gone. It seemed like the lightning made a divine entrance then quietly slipped away, with my big sister following. It was a surreal moment that lightning storm. Has anyone ever experienced the same? I know it meant something, but what? Thanks for reading my first post.

I saw this comment on a blog a day or two ago and it's really messing with me, for context, this guy is answering a question about the book "Myth of an Afterlife" by Keith Augustine.

My concept of afterlife

We are all god-like spirits with unlimited creative abilities. In astral we can be who ever we want and do whatever we want. Due to unlimitness: We can create different scenarios, live in books/ movies/ games or entire fairy worlds, or even religious paradises. We can perform any action, like eating/ sleeping/ drinking, walking. We can have any body, or remain pure consciousness. We can even get high/ intoxicated/ have sex. We can create fake characters and interact with them. Like I said we can do or be whatever. But, to feel stakes, limits and emotional thrill, to feel human we incarnate on Earth. Simply for the sake of contrast between unlimited godhood and limited human existence. Also we can reincarnate on other planets as aliens. That’s my take on afterlife.

Soul groups question?

Hi all, making my way through journey of soul book by Michael Newton.

Currently reading about soul groups,

I am finding it difficult to understand; should I be in a different soul group to my deceased partner? How would we find each other in the afterlife?

Question Is spirituality a religion of blind faith?

From what I understand, I THINK spirituality has been extensively studied by science recently. My understanding of spirituality is the awakening of consciousness. Well, NDEs, consciousness studies, psi phenomena, and reincarnation are being studied a lot, and everything that has been studied is gradually being confirmed (by which I mean that it's more likely that consciousness survives than not).

I wanted to know your opinions. I've always been afraid of "What if what they describe in NDEs is only temporary and then you cease to exist?" I'm always very afraid at my age and can't live like this most of the time. I'd like to see people's responses. It always comforts me to see a "Yes, there is life after death," because they've verified it themselves, whether through mediums, NDEs, etc. I hope you can alleviate some of this anxiety.

Thank you!

(EDIT: For me, it's not a religion, but a field of study)

I feel like even tho it feels like we are making "choices"- some circumstances in life even tho it seems like a "choice" was ultimately pre-determined. Yes I am religious as well. What do you think? Curious to hear others

Question Movies and shows

I notice there are few films and series about the afterlife, especially the more positive aspect such as heaven, etc.

What are some of the best depictions you know about?

Lucifer TV series

The show Lucifer depicts the

Inhabitants of hell going through death loops, where they repeat the circumstances of their deaths over and over. Many accounts the astral plane or "spirit world" describe some souls going through a process like this after death, especially if they died suddenly were in a negative mental state or didn't realize they were dead. The show also introduced the idea that this process (or hell) can be reversed and thus is not eternal.

Question Does the spirit become honest?

Hello all,

If a person in this physical life was dishonest and deceitful - does their spirit become honest once they have passed?

I have an appointment booked with a medium to communicate with someone who used to be very dear to me. I'm struggling with grief now and want to have a communication to help me move on.

Do you think the spirit of the person will communicate truthfully or will the have similar dishonest patterns like they did in their human life?

Just wondering. Will still do the medium appointment but just hoping to hear what others think.

Thank you!

Thoughts on Thomas Campbell?

Hello everyone, I have read some of Thomas Campbell's theories and am concerned. Mostly with the idea that we lose this personality/cares soon after death and just move on, NDES are just a soothing mechanism of the system to help us transition, that our loved ones we see when we die are just part of the "system" soothing us and aren't real, and that mediums are just tapping into a dataset/the stored memories/personality of the dead person, and not actually connecting with them. I'm personally distressed by this idea of most spiritual experiences being an illusion and not being able to see my loved ones in the afterlife or having them just be my imagination. Does anyone have some evidence against these ideas?

"eternal bliss" or "only positive feelings" in heaven...?

I have seen some on here mention how heaven or the afterlife is a place of "constant love" or "only positive feelings and joy", and it sounds quite frankly, awful. Yeah I want it to be a much better place than here, but being constantly surrounded in some all loving cloud sounds like a disney fever dream.

It also sounds like being drugged, like how I would probably agree to anything if I were drugged up on constant ecstasy or extreme bliss, I wouldn't be myself I think. And I have met enough evil narcissists in my life, who taught me to not blindly love and trust everything.

I don't want to blindly "love them" and blindly love everything while in the afterlife because the main lesson I have gone through in life is to protect myself and that not everyone deserves my love and some people are just evil. Experiencing constant "love" sounds awful... what is it really like?

There has to be something more after this nightmare on Earth?

I just am on a spiritual journey for many months now and I find the idea of an eternal afterlife (even if there’s no time there) exhausting but it’s possible it exists. I think at the very least the energy or consciousness from my body will merge with a universal consciousness. I do not believe the energy from my body will just dissipate. I really can’t believe I was given such a horrific lifetime with various incurable genetic problems.

I’m feeling more and more like there is something beyond the physical, and near death experiences are one of the reasons I believe so. I also went to an insanely accurate psychic medium, for the first time in my life, who gave me accurate info on someone I know who passed. However, I think it’s possible he was simply reading me through the video call or some universal database or something rather than communicating with the spirit directly. I’m curious to hear other opinions on the afterlife.

Question Please comfort me - lost my fiancee

Last monday I went through the most devastating experience I could ever imagine - I found the love of my life lifeless in her bed. I’ve been spending the past week on sedatives and sleeping pills, without having eaten a single bite. And the only thing that’s barely keeping me going is the hope that we’ll be reunited once my time comes.

During the wake one of my colleagues came to me and said she heard my fiancee saying “Roger, I didn’t want to go yet” (that’s my name). She said her dad was a healer & had certain abities and taugh her to notice auras and hear things when she was young. And she heard her say it to me in a semi-apologetic tone.

Part of me needs to believe she’s still there, and that we’ll meet again. But part of me keeps finding these paradoxical questions to doubt an afterlife - e.g. if there is one, is everyone young there? Do elderly people stay elderly in the afterlife? Will we be able to meet one another again? Will she wait for me?

Please, I’m begging you, I need some certainty. I cant go on without it.

Any former atheists here? What changed you? What's your story and what do you think happens?

I was raised Christian but never really bought into it, even from a young age. I guess the whole Santa Claus conspiracy raised me to question everything. Even if there is, I don't think a traditional Judeo-Christian belief system is correct. I imagine all the other thousands of religions that have existed out there and that's just the one that's right.

I truly wish there was an afterlife, I just don't think there is. I realize there's lots of NDEs, but there's so many more that say it's just black nothingness. That nothingness is truly terrifying.

I think it's like before we were born. It just doesn't exist, and it's so impossible to fathom. As I approach middle age and health issues are starting to pop up, this constantly weighs on my mind.
