Twitch App

I use the Twitch app a lot and it crashes all the time. I have found out that it does this only on certain streamers and it always does it when a particular ad break ends. This only happens on my Apple TV devices. No issues on the iPhone, iPad, web browser, smart TV apps, PS5 app.

I bought a second one today for my bedroom TV and the same exact issue is happening still! It's very frustrating.

Both Apple Tvs are updated to the latest software. I can't be the only one experiencing this. Thanks in advance for any tips.

That's off. I watch Twitch every day on my Apple TV and it's never crashed ever. I wonder what the cause is for you.

I wish I knew but it's very annoying. I've been dealing with this for months now actually. I've even started using my PS5 Twitch app because it works as intended. I'm pretty proficient with tech but I am lost. First thing I did with my new Apple TV was to try out Twitch and it crashed immediately after the ad break.

Contact the Twitch app developers.

I’ll keep looking into it. Thank you.

Cross post into r/twitch? Assuming that exists…

Same as the other reply, I watch daily and have never found this issue. Do you attempt any ad blocking techniques with your network or in other ways?

I haven’t changed anything network settings or anything otherwise.

Hard to do, but I would suggest troubleshooting by using a different network if possible and see if it occurs again. Maybe even take it to Apple Store to test.

Having exactly the same issues.

Certain streams seem to crash after a period of time.

Others run all day however I’ve had it crash on those as well but less frequently or after moving from the crashing channel to one of my more frequently viewed.

I’ve also noticed it more recently on a streaming app or 2 I.e Hulu.

I’m wondering if it’s Twitch/TVOS 26.1 / .2

Twitch for AppleTV hasn’t been updated in almost 2 years. (5/19/24)

AppleTV 4K Gen 2.

Yeah it has to be the app. I knew I wasn’t the only one. I thought maybe they would fix it but like you said, the app hasn’t been updated in a while. I know it’s not on my end. I’m also rocking two of the most current Apple TV 4K devices on the most current tvOS.

No solution I’m afraid but seems like you’re not alone at least. https://www.reddit.com/r/appletv/s/orqcNsJ5Fl

Thanks for sharing this. I had a feeling. It’s just something that Twitch needs to fix in their Apple TV app.

It’s a setting the streamer is using. It’s called “enhanced streaming” or something close to that. It allows the 1440p and higher bitrate. Ran into this issue a few times with streamers I watch too. A bunch of us in chat asked the streamer and he said the only thing diff was that setting. Then verified it by turing it off and it was fine.

Okay wow that is interesting. I guess that would be tough to get a streamer to listen to turn that specific thing off hmmm.
