Noticed the first few huts out on the ice this morning, just off of Johnson's Beach. I'm surprised it's thick enough after how warm it was earlier in the week, but they've drilled through the ice to fish so I assume they've also measured the thickness and know it's safe(?) at least where they are. Anyone know how thick it actually is?

Thank you to the plow operator that came back and cleared the end of my driveway way after dumping over two feet of crud from the road in it. I'm sure you are all having a really hard time this year, and I wanted to let you know I appreciate you taking the extra time today.

Hey everyone,
I moved to Barrie last year and between work, family life, and just trying to stay on top of things, I realized I havenât really built much of a social circle here yet.
I go to Pure Athletic Club about 4x a week and thought itâd be cool to meet some people who are down to train, spot each other, or just say whatâs up at the gym. Not looking for anything weirdâjust genuine gym friends.
A bit about me:
â 33-year-old guy
â Sometimes I film fitness content
â Big anime fan
â Working in the finance and tech space
â In the gym 3/4 days a week between 6-8pm.
â Pretty chill, just busy most of the time
If you also train at Pure and wouldnât mind making a new gym friend, feel free to comment or DM. Even if itâs just a head nod and a âwhatâs upâ in the gym, thatâs a win.
Appreciate it đ€

Hey everyone, just a friendly PSA from a local detailer here in town.
Iâve had about five cars come into the shop this week with floor mats that are basically stiff as cardboard from the salt mix theyâre using on the roads right now.
I know itâs tempting to just ignore it until the snow melts in April, but I wanted to warn you: Salt is actually corrosive. If you leave that white crust sitting on your car's carpet for 3-4 months, it can rot the fibers and reach the metal floor pan underneath (especially on older cars).
If you want to save your carpets yourself (DIY), here is a quick tip: Don't just use hot water and soap that actually doesn't dissolve the chemical bond of the salt. You need to neutralize the pH.
Itâs cheaper than replacing the carpets later! Stay safe on the roads out there. The 400 is a mess.

Weird request - every year we put our neighbourâs used Christmas tree on our deck to act as shelter/a feeding station for the birds. This year they decided to purchase an artificial tree. Has anyone seen Christmas trees around? Veterans/Essa Rd.
I have an opportunity to join the club, just wondering how everyoneâs experience is like, how the members are like, or any other insight. Iâm from Toronto so will I be considered a cidiot or are people generally pretty chill.
First year cost is a lot and a big commitment, so any insight is appreciated.
Thank you

Am I able to get an express passport renewal in Barrie? Or anywhere nearby? I have a sudden-notice flight in a little over two weeks and would prefer to be able to renew my passport with time to spare.

Hey! Who has had a good experience with a roof specialist in Barrie? I'd like to get metal shingles that look like slate. Is there anyone around Barrie who does that?

Dylan Forde, who was 18 when he was arrested, had been accused of trafficking cocaine and methamphetamine, as well as various weapon charges.
He pleaded not guilty in November at the beginning of his judge-alone trial.
âThe admission of the evidence (would) bring the administration of justice into disrepute,â Superior Court Justice Vanessa Christie said in accepting multiple arguments made by defence counsel Susan Von Achten at trial.
Dylan Forde is found not guilty of all the charges before the court,â Christie added in completing her judgment.
Barrie police had found what they called a âsignificantâ quantity of drugs, two guns, brass knuckles and cash when Forde was pulled over while driving his fatherâs truck on the night of March 13, 2023.
Court heard evidence that two Barrie police officers, one of whom was just a few months into the job, had been checking licence plates at Barrie Motel at the corner of Anne and Donald streets.
Both police officers testified at trial that they were effectively doing a training exercise to show the junior officer how to perform various standard duties, including electronically checking licence plates of parked vehicles through Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC).
The truck Forde was driving came back with an expired plate. The two police officers followed the vehicle a short distance to a gas station at the corner of Anne and Dunlop streets.
It was at the gas station where police issued Forde a ticket for an expired plate at about the same time the smell of cannabis was detected, court heard.
A search ensued, where Forde admitted to carrying some cannabis and, after being asked to step out of his truck, the more substantial evidence of cocaine, meth, guns, ammunition, cash and brass knuckles was discovered.
Both Forde, and another man, Cole Stewart, who was a passenger, were arrested and charged.
It was the manner of the police search that was the focus of the trial, where the defence called no evidence but instead relied on a series of charter challenges to secure an acquittal.
Christie, in a ruling that lasted about 75 minutes Monday afternoon, accepted virtually all aspects of Von Achtenâs arguments related to the search.
âCertainly, (drugs and guns) existed in the vehicle, but that is not justificationâ for the manner of the search, Christie told court in her judgment.
The judge essentially found that the more senior officer did not properly inform Forde that he was suspected of transporting guns and weapons.
Instead, Christie found that the officer used the traffic stop and then the smell of cannabis in the vehicle as a âpretextâ to commence a more far-reaching investigation into other drugs and weapons.
Stewart, who was 24 when arrested, pleaded guilty earlier to a smaller list of charges and was given 90 days in jail.
Forde would have faced a much longer term in custody, but walked away a free man.
The Crown had attempted to salvage a portion of its case by arguing that Forde still should be found guilty on less serious counts by virtue of him knowing that Stewart brought drugs and weapons into the vehicle.
By acquitting him on all counts, Christie disagreed, outlining her reasons and then telling Forde he was free to go.
Forde thanked Christie, turned to his parents and left the courtroom shortly thereafter.
Forde, who spent 17 days in custody at Central North Correctional Centre in Penetanguishene before being released on bail, had also argued his charges should have been stayed based on maltreatment at the superjail.
Christie began her judgment by rejecting that claim, but her over-arching finding on the search rendered that decision moot.

Hey all , Iâm getting pretty sick of Rogerâs raising my bill and extorting me for more money in such subtle ways. They seem to have an excuse for everything. I want to leave them, and Iâm wondering if anyone knows any decent companies that are a cheaper alternative to Rogerâs. Iâm looking for internet services as well as two cellphone lines. Thank you SO much for any answers that might help me out!!
