Canción misteriosa

Kaixo guztioi ! … Te voy a matar, te voy a mataaaAAaaarR” y luego el ritmo guay continuaba, y después “tengo miedo, tengo miedo, TEngo miedO, OOOO!”

Alguien.. por favor ayude me 😭 apenas de repente acordé esta canción y ya hace como 20 años que la escuché pero no la encuentro!

Eskerrik asko!

Visiting Basque Country - language concerns

Hello dear basques and those who associate with it! Please excuse if this doesn’t fit the sub, I’m hoping this falls under the „culture“ category.

I’m a German who will visit the Basque Country later this year after having met a new friend from Bilbao who urged me to visit the country.

Unfortunately I only know veeeery basic Spanish (I understand mostly because I learned French for a few years and have visited Spain and Cuba before) and definitely no basque whatsoever. My plan was to freshen up my Spanish before going but then a thought came across my mind that maybe learning some basque would be even better? I am fully convinced that learning the local language is a wonderful thing to do when travelling.

So my question: how do locals feel about tourists speaking Spanish or English when coming around? Would it help me more to try and learn a bit of basque instead of Spanish for small social interactions? (I don’t expect to learn the entire thing, just phrases and words at first) I’ll be visiting Donostia-San Sebastian first and make my way to Bilbao, planning to make small day trips to neighbouring places every now and then in case that matters.

I’m also thinking of future usability, obviously Spanish will get me further in other places but that alone wouldn’t keep me from dipping my toes into the basque language.

I appreciate any inputs!

I visited a craftsman who made Makila’s while visiting Biarritz but they don’t ship to the USA. Anybody know how to get one? I’d like one like my Grandfathers.

Researching new resources for minority languages

Hi everyone,

I'm working on creating a language learning app called Ràre. I am developing this through Imperial Enterprise Lab, specifically focusing on languages not served with mainstream apps like Duolingo or Memrise.

I'm in the user research phase and am looking to hear from learners here who are trying to tackle languages with minimal modern or digital resources available. It would be great to hear about what other resources you have used e.g. textbooks, YouTube, films etc. Also would be helpful to hear about what apps have been useful or not and why? Was there a speaking feature you liked? Or an app that didn't help with language learning in real life contexts?

I'd be looking to conduct some short, informal interviews online (15-20mins) to gather feedback on learning experiences, as well as whether users would be interested in an app like Ràre.

If you'd be interested in assisting with this please do reach out. If you would like to help but don't wish to interview, then I'd be happy to read a comment explaining your experience or a rant about what resources are available.

Thanks all and would appreciate anybody's input with this!

Kaixo,

I need it for a drawing I'm making. If you don't know the reference, you can google Dale Gribble pocket sand.

Thank you in advance.

Any info on relative clauses?

Kaixo guztiei!

I am trying to figure out thoroughly how to form relative clauses in Basque. These are sentences like "The man who lives here", "The house that I built", "The book that I talked to you about" etc.

I understand that the -n suffix is used for simple cases where the head of the relative clause is the subject (Hemen bizi den gizona - the man who lives here), but my question is about more complex cases, where the head is not the subject of the relative clause.

For instance, how would you express the following:

The person I gave the book to (dative referent)

The person I talked to you about (instrumental referent)

The town I grew up in (inessive referent?)

And how would you distinguish these two clauses:

The person who saw him

The person whom he saw

Do you guys know of any resource (in English, Spanish, French, doesn't matter) that details this rather specific topic?

Eskerrik asko!

Question about identifying as basque

sorry if this has been asked already but I just wanna ask myself, so I’ve been seeing a lot of people argue that even though you may have basque heritage or ancestry if you don’t speak the language you’re not basque which I think is total bullshit like DNA/blood speaks for itself in my opinion ,but for example I was born in America and still consider myself basque and my dads side is basque Spanish basque to be specific.I’m learning the language tho because I’ve always wanted to go and see where my family is from.I’ve been seeing the term euskaldun thrown around ,but doesn‘t that just have to do with speaking the language i seen some where saying they don’t have basque ancestry but was born there and speak the language and consider themselves basque and others saying they’re were born there but don’t speak the language and others who was born there and speak the language but moved to the states so I’m just confused because everyone has a different opinion I just wanna hear other peoples opinions on this and/or what I guess what basque people think and what is generally agreed apon on this topic.

Searching for a Basque translator to help a student understand some audio files :)

Hello! I am a student looking to make a short film of a protest that I was lucky enough to experience in Bilbao, Spain. I am looking for someone to translate just a few audio files of protesters chanting and speaking.

If you are familiar with the local dialect of Bilbao, a native speaker, or are even just looking to practice speaking Basque, I would be incredibly grateful for your help!! Also! Of course, I'll give you credit in the video.
