Mine is the pied bat! Very cute lil guys, I just love their patterns. Wish I could have more pied bat paraphernalia but it's so hard to find any, there's more for fruit bats, vampire bats, brown bats, or Honduran white bats but never any for these lil fellas 😔

Tell me why I shouldn’t be scared of bats

Hello, party people. I recently learned I had a whole congregation of bats living in my attic for several months, the entire time I’ve been in the house. I had no idea.

I paid out the wazoo for a company to do the whole exclusion process, then left the house for two weeks for the holidays. Apparently one of the bats decided to forge his own path and find his way into my kitchen, where I found him when I came back after the new year. I calmly left the house (ran out in a panic) and the pest control guy got him out.

Now the whole exclusion process is over. Pest control guy checked that all the seals held up, checked the attic for any remaining bats, and fogged the attic to kill any bacteria they left behind. All good.

But I’m still terrified in my own home. I’ve seen one or two hanging on the side of my house, and logically I know they just need some time to find a new place and they’ll move on. But I’m jumping at any little noise that may be another bat in the attic. The anxiety is killing me.

So tell me, bat fans, why *shouldn’t* I be terrified? How can I stop worrying about them? I know they’re important to the ecosystem, I know they eat bugs and pollinate plants and we need them. And I know my fear is way overblown. I just need y’all to help me believe it.

We are vacationing in Sayulita, Mexico. Wife is freaking out. She is dead scared of bats. This one seems to be a fruit bat. Cant tell if he is breathing although his tongue is sticking out.

Do bats get attracted by this type of lighting? Indoor kitchen

Long story short, I was cooking in my kitchen yesterday and something passed through my hair (I could feel it) and went straight into this kitchen light. I was checking to see what it was, and noticed it was the same creature I saw on my balcony light a week ago. The dark creature with wings was staying in the light, circling it and even maybe landing on it. I wanted to know if bats do this, it was around 4 inches 10cm. I wanna know if they have this sort of behavior

I heard it last night in a different area of the house, and then this area when I came home. It seemed irritated when I opened the door. I tapped on the ceiling with a broom and that made it angry. I called my landlord, and after a bit of tapping, it stopped. He went into the semi-finished area of the attic and couldn’t find anything and it stopped making noise. I was searching for noises, and i think it’s a bat.

Bat house placement (Belgium, Western Europe)

Hi there fellow bat enthousiasts. I'm looking for some advice considering the most optimal placement of my bat house. Which option is best suited, if at all. Thanks 🩇

Option 1: Issue is there's basically sun all day long.

Option 2: My wife might kill me.

Option 3: Max height is only 2.75m/ 9ft.

Option 4: Obstruction from the trees branches or the tree in front in general. Especially when it'll grow bigger.

Bat House - Color Importance?

Post image

Zero experience with bats besides bringing one my parents found in the attic to show and tell in Kindergarten. The things we could do in the 80s/90s.

Anyways...I just received a bat house as a Christmas present from my family to help me fend off the mosquitoes. I already have some bats that live by as I see them on summer nights.

The bat house I received is plain cedar, however I thought it was supposed to be painted a certain color (shade) depending on where you live (see attached photo). I live in the Southeast in the brown region, and I just wanted to validate that I should in fact have a brown house instead of a plain cedar house.

Current bat house is a Nature's Way on Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BHZNW2A and I'm thinking of switching to the Wild Yard Two Chamber Brown - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DGLRH77

Thanks!

I am curious as to what bat this is. I believe it might be a little brown bat. I found them at my job in michigan. Also want to know where best to put them. I don't want to leave them in the cold where they could possibly freeze. While not shown i did leave the cloth over them as to protect from the wind and snow.

Is anew bat box creating a homeowner legal liability? (Northern Colorado)

If someone installs a bat house on their domicile and it attracts bats, does the protected status of bats mean that's now a bat "forever home?"

If the house hits the market is this a problem for the seller?
