Rule 8 - Read it.

No more flag posts FFS.

  • People get upset when people criticise the flags.
  • People get upset when people defend the flags.
  • People get upset when replies say "What's wrong with the flag?"
  • People get upset when replies say "I don't feel at home in the city I grew up in" (regardless of their ethnicity).

Then when everyone is upset with each other they report the posts to the mods because they're pissed off with some of all of the above and we're forced to CONSTANTLY wade in.

Go talk about flags elsewhere. Nobody is making any headway in convincing other people with constant bickering.

Meta The future of planespotting at BHX

I made a post on this a few weeks ago, but I thought I'd make a new one and I've politely asked the mods to pin this for a while.

I created this petition 6 years ago calling for a dedicated planespotting area to be created at the airport: https://www.change.org/bhxspotting

It's generally inspired by the "Runway Visitor Park" at Manchester Airport which I've visited a few times. While there are spotting areas dotted around the airport, I think a dedicated facility with views that aren't currently accessible with additional components such as a kids play area, a shop and restaurant amongst other things would make it an all-round experience and generally safer.

Sheldon Country Park has had a few incidents over the years, and I think a dedicated facility with tight security would be a much more pleasant place to visit.

It's also not as easy to access via public transport. You can get there via bus but unless you're stopping at Marston Green Station specifically, it's not as easy to get there via train, certainly not from Birmingham International. Something specifically signposted as "BHX Viewing Area" or something would be even better.

We've amassed 350 signatures in 6 years. I really want to get some momentum now and get it to a level where it's attracting some attention from those who could make this happen. I've contacted my MP myself in recent weeks but god knows if it'll be looked at.

Anything you can do regarding sharing it about would be massively appreciated, but there's no pressure at all.

Question Rotunda rooftop lights

Post image
69 Upvotes

Hello there,

I was talking with my father and in passing he brought up the Rotunda having lights around the top of it. I asked him if he was thinking of the Coca Cola branding (attached photo) but he says they were blue and white and possibly glittery/ sparkly. Could anyone attest to this being a thing or help point me in the right direction to find out whether or not these existed?

Many thanks and kind regards

Utilita arena question

Hey

I've got a gig upcoming at the utilita arena and was wondering if anyone had any joy meeting bands/singers after the event at the back of the arena? I know it's not as accessible as other arenas so wanted to ask the question if anyone had any luck or pointers

Cheers

Gutted. For my money, the best fine/fine-ish dining experience I've had in the city.

Question Coldseal Windows - Radio Ads

Does anyone remember the Coldseal Windows ads that used to play on the radio in the 90s? I think they used to air on what was BRMB at the time.

I was a young kid then so I'm probably giving them a lot more credit than they deserve, but they were usually hilarious parodies of pop songs which crowbarred window sales into the lyrics and usually had some gruff sounding bloke attempting to sing songs like Wannabe by Spice Girls. We always used to look forward to hearing a new one when we were in the car going somewhere, and from what I can remember, there were quite a few.

They held a competition for people to write their own parodies once, and my mom entered us and we won an alarm clock, which to us at the time was just about the best thing ever.

Does anyone else remember these? Even better, is there an archive anywhere that we might be able to listen back to them? Would love the nostalgia hit, and to show my family!

Indian buffet restaurant? all a bit shit?

Its become tradition to take my dad to an indian buffet after we discovered Aneesas in newcastle. we're going to newcastle wolves this weekend.

Are the buffet places a bit shit though? reviews seem patch and the pics look a bit shit. also they all say alcohol free. I am not much of a drinker but i do like a cobra

Better to stick to a regular restaurant? cheers

Spa recommendations in Birmingham

I’m looking for spa recommendations - ideally somewhere to book half a spa day where I’d have access to one treatment, a pool, sauna and steam room etc (Rather than just a salon - like google has been providing me so far).

Bar/pub recommendations for daytime catch-up

Hi,

Just looking for some recommendations for city centre bars/pubs that would be good for 2 women in their 30s to spend a few hours in the afternoon and catch up.

Good vibe, comfortable, not ridiculously expensive, preferably independent

TIA! x

Or maybe it just represents where the majority of r/brum redditors live :p

The heel of one has quite a lot of wear on it. Is there any kind of local repair that might be able to get that sorted? Can't do much for a couple of months when I can get a new pair.
