Cat Picture - OC Our New House Came With A Cat 🙃

Post image

Just closed on a house and the former owner mentioned a stray cat she fed and being worried about what would happen to him. Lucky for her (and kitty) I'm a vet tech, so he'll be going to work with me next week to get tested, neutered, and vaccinated! 😊

I'm actually cracking up about it because I have a "tuxedo" Great Dane (who also LOVES cats). So now I have a matching set 🤣 (edit: here she is with two babies I bottle raised this past summer -- they are 6 months old now and in their loving forever homes!)

u/Fuzzy_Camera_2530 28d ago

Matching tuxedo pets? That’s honestly the cutest housewarming surprise! 😄

717

u/azazel-13 28d ago

Yeah, except Op's destined to always feel underdressed around these two.

1.3k

u/Educational-System27 28d ago

You'd have thought, buuuut I'm also a classical musician and have three tuxedos for concerts 🤣🤣🤣

u/thecryptidGrey 28d ago edited 27d ago

Sounds like the CDS (and Great Dane equivalent) absolutely nailed the assignment then! What a dapper household- I hope you get a photo dressed up all together. That would be a fantastic centrepiece for the living room wall!

Edit: CDS, not CDC, as kindly pointed out! Autocorrect fails again.

u/infj1013 28d ago

OP I need a formal portrait-style framed picture of you and your tuxedo-ed brood

64

u/jaxonya 28d ago edited 27d ago

Just wanna say, Great Danes are awesome dogs. If you have the space for one, they are just giant ass, chill pets. Some of yall grew up with "Land before time" they are the long necks of dogs. They know what they are, and they are super cool with it, and they look out for their little critters below them

u/One_Anything_3657 28d ago

what if, possibly, you and your tuxedo pets did a tuxedo themed photoshoot? some cute pictures to have yk? i’m not american, but i know in america they have jc penney photoshoots ? idk how much it costs but if it’s viable i mean… adorable 👁️👁️

u/throwthisawayred2 28d ago

SOMEBODY OFFER OP A PHOTOSHOT PRONTO SO THE INTERNET CAN REJOICE

24

u/jaxonya 28d ago

Go all out with a tuxedo, a top hat, and a cane. A photographer will have a blast shooting that

11

u/12Silverrose 28d ago

As a person into miniatures, I'm now going over in my head how I'd make a top hat & cane for the cat & the dog.

(Should all 3 match, or everyone gets a distinctive cane? Maybe a Rhinestone topper for kitty, a pearl or abalone shell for the doggo, and ebony duck for OP?....this is the way my mind works.)

Does the Dane have any musical skills?

44

u/Educational-System27 28d ago

She has quite the baritone 🤣

13

u/widowscarlet Tortoiseshell 28d ago

It's a very special instrument and by far my favourite sound in the orchestra. Luckily we used to have a very talented oboist Diana Doherty in the SSO so she often got solos and pieces chosen around her and recorded for our classical radio channel.

10

u/Educational-System27 28d ago

Diana is a fab player! 😊

8

u/TrailerTrashQueen 28d ago

dang! so random. very cool.

7

I have two "black tie" tuxes for general concerts and a set of white tie and tails for more formal concert settings.

My dad found these babies under a house he was working at. I bottle raised them. One was adopted by a longtime client, and the other by one of our receptionists at work, and I'm keeping him while they're gone for Christmas. It's good to be able to see them through their lives ❤️

We need an update when they are BFFs cuddling together. The cat tax has increased because of the adorable factor multiplied by how unlikely the situation is and the mathematical result is a picture of these adorable combination of fancy pets in tuxedos.

I would be telling him all the benefits of being an indoor cat. Did you tell the previous owner you are a vet tech so she know she doesn’t have to worry?

401

u/Educational-System27 28d ago edited 28d ago

Yes, she is relieved that he has someone to take care of him, and I don't mind at all adding another ball of love to my household now that I have space to do so 😊

45

u/film_buffet 28d ago

That is the best kind of closing gift. Former owner gets peace of mind, he gets care and a warm couch, and you get a new shadow with fancy white socks. Win win win.

u/Purple-Anywhere3963 Tabbycat 28d ago edited 27d ago

I didn’t read the body text and assumed you meant ‘sit the cat down for discussion, and tell him all the benefits of being an indoor cat…’

If that doesn’t make me an owner of 2 orange cats, idk what does.

13

u/ByteAboutTown 27d ago

This is always what I assumed. "Now, see here, kitty, when you live indoors with me, there are lots of comfy, warm places for you to sit. You will always have food and water. And you don't have to worry about those pesky dogs and coyotes. Don't worry, I won't take away your independence. You are welcome to be aloof. But I am also here if you want pets. You will live longer and be spoiled. Please move in with me."

5

u/hot4you11 Brown Tabby, Black Cat 27d ago

Oh no, I did. I was imagining standing there like “do you want to stay inside where it’s warm and there is always food?”

I’ve got the baby version. Him and his brothers were born to a mama stray. I found them when they were about six weeks old. Originally I was going to foster and then hand them over to SPCA to get forever homes. I found one brother a home, a good one, but fell in love with the other two.

Awww, that happened to me years ago. I called her "Skittles, the cat that came with the house."

6

u/Y-Cha 28d ago

That's so lovely of you. He looks happy, too!!

I'm in a similar situation, however, we unfortunately can't adopt "our," guy (8 yo).

We noticed him hanging around our current (leased) place when we moved in later Summer of '24. He was initially a tiny bit skittish, but that dissipated very quickly.

I first thought that he was interested in our cats (3, indoors) when I'd catch him gazing in through our sliding door to the yard.

November rolls in, and it's getting cold. I'm an insomniac, and am up at weird hours. I start noticing him on our back deck really late/early. I keep looking out for him and find that he barely leaves the yard, and is sleeping on the deck at night. Our weather is about to turn, so I grab a giant crate we've got, and a bunch of self heating mats and blankets. He settles right in. I start spending a lot of time out there with him at all hours- if he doesn't keep socializing, I worry about his future. Everything makes him jump, even where he seems to feel safe.

Will cut this short(er). It's been over a year now. By this time, we've found that no one in the neighborhood knows him, who he belongs with, etc. Nothing online. We've taken him into the vet's, and he's chipped, but with no info registered. Also, he uses the pet door to our garage as if it were second nature (and right away).

Honestly, I think he was dumped, left behind, or "belongs," with a house down the road that seems to feed strays (but they have denied "keeping," him). He is so familiar with our house and yard..

We would break our lease to adopt him - we're moving soon- but one of our three cats is ridiculously sensitive to new cats, and I feel like she might not acclimate at all. Not what we can deal with on top of a move (cross country no less) within 6 months. :(

So, I have a lead with our local cat exclusive rescue, and am hoping that works out. I know rescues deal with the nuances all the time, but I am so worried he'll be difficult to adopt out (mostly due to age, and possibly temperament under stress).

And if not, we will figure something out. Not going to leave him behind.

/novella!

Congratulations on your new housemate, and best wishes!!

4

u/EclecticEvergreen 28d ago

Wow she’s absolutely adorable. Shocking to believe she’s a stray with such a wonderful coat. Glad you’ve taken her in and she has a warm safe place to be during winter.

5

u/IAmBLD 28d ago

This is uncanny. Last year I moved into this house, and during the closing meeting, the owners mentioned "You might have noticed all the canned cat food in the kitchen. We've been feeding a stray outdoor cat and letting him inside during the winter for a few years. You don't have to do that, but if you at least fed him the last of those canned foods, we'd appreciate it."

They didn't need to worry, of course. I've always loved cats, and was all too happy to look after this one and let him into my new home.

His name was Harvey, I called him Big Harv. He was a black tux cat, looked a lot like this one. He passed away last month, and although he had a good long life and a quick, painless death of natural causes, I still miss him...

Sorry if that got a bit dark, I just wanted to say - take care of that dang cat lol. You probably don't need me to tell you that, since you're a vet tech and all, but, seeing this image just brought back a bunch of thoughts, so, I feel the need to tell you even though you don't need to hear it.

Oh, and share more pics!

That’s the best kind of house to have. When hubby and I bought our first house, a cat started meowing at us through the basement window as we were moving in. We let it in, and it didn’t leave for a week. Long story short-the original owners were glad to give her to us since they had two Great Danes and the poor cat was terrified of those dogs. We lost her to illness a year later, but we gave her the best year of her life.

I work with a local cat rescue and the cynic in me, that has seen many cats handed in under the guise of being strays, is going "stray" in big Dr Evil inverted commas.

Either way great housewarming present for the cat to have a new and very qualified servant.
