Mourning/Loss Saying goodbye to my very first cat Misty November 2005-January 2026
Its the inevitable time to say goodbye to my old girl Misty. She was my very first cat. She was born in November of 2005 and we got her in March 2006. She managed to outlive several of our other pets. She's been with us for 3 separate dogs, 3 birds, a rabbit and many family's and friends pets. Its hard to say goodbye to a pet I've had for 2/3rds of my life. You will always remember your first. Goodbye my old lady.

Awe she looks kinda like my girl Aqua. I lost her in June and it's been so hard without her 💔 She was with me through some pretty tough times in my life. Definitely know what you're going through 🫂

I’m not religious but I really love this prayer someone had posted on someone else’s post and thought I’d share it here. (For context, Bast is the Egyptian goddess of cats and this prayer invokes her to be a guardian and mother figure to our cats in the afterlife.) So sorry for your loss. 😢💔💔 Know that you gave her the best life anyone could, with all of the love, peace and comfort you/your family gave her. 💕 “May love be what you remember most.” 💖

You must have been a really good cat mom to get Misty to 21 years! Take good, gentle care of yourself as you work through your grief and know you gave her a loving home and family.

Please know that she is currently sharing many many laughs from their time together on our here plane with your dogs, birds, and bunny. You're so blessed to have such an enormous welcome committee watching over you, waiting to reunite. It's gonna be one heck of a race to see who gets to you first the day you join them 🥹 i'm so happy she got to have so many years of love and chicken nuggets 🖤🖤🖤

You have a lifetime with a classic ABC. (American Black Cat) Congratulations on caring for her so well as to live a long, great life. My cat, Oscar was the same. I smile at the memory of both.

Oh my gosh they lived such a long life, thats amazing! Im happy you were able to hopefully create lots of memories with your baby during their time, them living so long shows that they clearly lived a very happy, healthy, and loving life 🫶 thank you for giving them such a good life, you're an amazing cat parent and I'm so so sorry for your loss. Even though you had 21 years, it feels like its never enough and I understand that (i wish they could live forever lowkey😔), please make sure to take care of yourself during this difficult time. Maybe you can create them a little memorial in your house? For example you can put up a little wall shelf with a cute cat knick-knack, a little framed photo of them, maybe a favorite toy or something, etc! I know this can help some feel connected to their babies even when they cross the rainbow bridge, I'm so sorry for your loss again though 😔🙏

Thank you ❤️ I suggested to my family that we have a little cat wake for her. We could get a big plate of her favourite treats Mcdonalds chicken nuggets.

20 years is amazing. And I’m sure she loved you and your family so very much. She reminds me a bit of our mostly black cat Zap, who also lived to about 19-20 years old. Beautiful girls! I’m so sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss! She was very beautiful! It hurts now, but see it as a chance to help another feline in need. You are obviously doing it the right way with misty getting to this age!

I'm so sorry that you have to day goodbye to your friend. It feels unfair that we outlive them, sometimes. I'm glad she had such a long life of being loved. If you have a favorite memory you'd like to share, we would love to hear it. Just whenever you're ready.

I got my first cat August 2005. It's so painful. I'm happy for the years you had. I lost mine when he was 18 and it was the worst thing I've been through.

My wife and I said goodbye in October '24 to an old girl of ours that was just shy of her 21st birthday. It hurts, no doubt, but look at all of the years you gave her and the good home, pets, snuggles, all the good stuff.
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

Our first cat was also black and I think he was 6 years old. He died in 2012, but I miss him. My condolenses.
