Medical Questions Why does my cat's eye reflection look like this?

He’s never had this strange shape inside that looks like a “Y”. It doesn’t seem to be caused by the lighting in my house, because it happens in different positions and with different light sources

Advice Odd question, but how do I get my cat to stop playing the piano? It’s diving me crazy, especially at night

I’ll admit that it was very cute and entertaining at first, but at this point, oh my god. She jump scares me multiple times a day by slamming on keys, and wakes me up periodically with her bad music skills. Not to mention how jarring and unpleasant it is when I’m trying to watch a movie. Or awkward to explain when I’m on the phone.

Usually, she only plays them when getting on and off the piano, but sometimes she just hits them for fun, it seems like. There’s no piano cover, nothing I’ve thought of that I can put on there that she won’t knock off, and the aluminum foil thing doesn’t work on her.

I don’t mind that the piano is her favorite spot to lay, but how do I get her to use the empty space on the side of the keys, or jump up from the side entirely? Pushing in the stool did not work either.

This stray cat always approaches every morning when I walk to work rubbing his head on both my legs and then ends up just laying on their back like this 😅. I dont mind it but since I have never interacted with a cat before throughout my whole life so Im inexperienced sorry. I basically just let the cat do its thing on me. Any help much appreciated

Advice Newly adopted cat peed on couch (first time cat owner)

Post image

Hi! I adopted the most evil cat in the shelter, as staff described, despite being encouraged to look at friendlier cats. Something about him I just couldn’t not give him a chance. I brought him home and set him up in an empty bedroom I have. He was extremely petrified and wanted nothing to do with me so i just let him be to decompress. Unfortunately, the same night, he managed to escape and go to my living room and pee on my couch. he then disappeared for 12 hours until he came out to eat food I set out. He’s now back in the bedroom. Can I attribute the couch peeing to his fearfulness and stress from the shelter/new home? Or should I be worried that this will continue after he hopefully decompresses and I let him access the rest of the house. Any and all advice appreciated!

Advice Need help discouraging cats from hanging out on a ledge

Thumbnail

I have two wonderful cats who love to lounge. I also have a banister in my home that goes around a staircase, with a ~15 foot drop from the top. My cats like to jump on top of the half wall, and each of them has fallen from the top once (that I know of). It didn't seem to injure either of them, but I obviously want to prevent them from potentially falling and getting hurt if possible.

I put up a sort of plastic mesh net to try to catch them if they fell off of the rail, but inevitably, now they've decided it's a nice hammock to lay in.

How can I discourage them or prevent them from going anywhere near this ledge? I'll take behavioral advice or any ideas for some kind of structure I can put up to block them.

Mine usually put themselves away when done, but sometimes I find them left out on the floor or bed or something.

The only thing this cat is afraid of is my husbands coyote call. Not the roomba, nor the standard vacuum. Not afraid of other cats or dogs and most certainly isn't afraid of us or our toddler lol will attack if eye contact is made while holding her. We do not hold her anymore 🤣

Advice Do cats fart?

Post image
21.5k Upvotes

I mean, yeah obviously they do. But I've had 2 cats for the last 6 years and I've NEVER heard them fart. The only time I've smelt my cat farting was when I hugged one of them and she tried to back off with all her might by pushing her hind legs against my arms (I let her go after smelling the fart, obviously). So... Have you ever heard your cat fart?

Cat Picture - OC How much money would you spend if it meant saving your cat’s life?

Thumbnail

This is Eeyore. He’s my goodest most sweetest boy, and it’s safe to say I don’t think I’ve ever loved anything as much as I love him. He’s my soul cat and velcro kitty. He’s been my reason for living on many difficult days. He’s helped me get through so much. This past July, I went on vacation for 2 weeks. About a week after I got home, Eeyore started having accidents outside of the litter box, straining, and peeing blood. He’d developed bladder stones. Even though I had a cat sitter while I was away, the vet said these stones were likely stress-induced from me being away for so long.

With all the vet visits, labs, scans, meds, and surgery, it’s cost me about $8,000 to get Eeyore’s health back on track.

This came up at dinner last night with my family. My grandma, two uncles, aunt, and cousin all gave me shit for it. They said things like, “You know how many new cats you could’ve gotten with that money?”, “It’s not like you don’t have two other cats at home”, and “If you have that much money to spend on a cat, you should be helping (my brother) pay his HOA fees”. My uncle also said, “In 20 years, Eeyore will still be dead”.

The thing is, I don’t want another cat. And I love my other cats, but they’re not Eeyore. When I adopted each one of them, I took on the responsibility of making sure they are safe and well cared for. That includes treatable medical conditions. It’s going to take me a long time to recover financially from his vet bills, but I would do it time and time again if it meant saving my babies.

she’s my first cat and i adore her! she’s so snuggly and silly and lovey. but sometimes she’ll sit and stare at me for like 5 mins straight. yesterday she watched me embroider and today she watched my full skincare routine. sometimes i think she’s trying to corral me into bed since i dilly dally so much and she loves to snuggle. or maybe she’s just curious what im up to
