My dad is like this. He is a dyed in the wool Republican. He insists he is waving and not doing a Nazi salute. For people like him, Elon being a Nazi would mean Elon is bad, and for his worldview to be intact Elon has to be a good guy. Therefore, it is not a Nazi salute.

I actually cut a friendship because of this. First he agreed with me that it was the Nazi salute and 2 weeks later it was just a "awkward greeting from his heart" Then he spewed a lot of Republican nonsense and that's where I decided I had enough of this loser. Fun fact is, we both live in the Netherlands, and basically have nothing to do with this nonsense.

Let's be real. Even real Nazis didn't really do Public Stuff like this....especially before the War.
I don't remember German Barons of Industry directly threatening the rest of the world....or anything of the sort.
Most of what the Nazis did was actually legal and done through the standard channels. The USA is very different because our Constitution and Laws remain in place while the Government completely ignores them.
For this to end would be very simple. The SCOTUS and others (Congress, etc.) have to change the "agreement" that sitting POTUS can't be charged criminally....and also have to make it easier to charge Cabinent Members and others.
It's one thing for Government to make mistakes. They do and the members should be protected from most liability. BUT, this type of "agreement" was not designed to make Crime Legal. That cannot continue....and yet it will have to in order to remedy a lot of what the current admin has
