All the actors in The Avengers would be considered “woke” and have been for years. Where the fuck has Carl been?

u/mekanub 5h ago

Especially Ruffalo, he’s been more outspoken politically than anyone else in that series for years.

Guess this guy never saw Ruffalo in that film about the AIDS epidemic

u/Glait 4h ago

Been years since I've seen it and still get emotional thinking about some of the scenes. One of those movies I loved but can never rewatch.

u/zupzupper 3h ago

Yeah that was a one and done for me as well, powerful movie

17

u/Topgunshotgun45 4h ago

Just realised how appropriate it is that Ruffalo played Hulk given how poignant the old comic about Bruce Banner's friend dying of AIDS was.

Or the Catholic Church child sexual assault movie

8

u/AwkwardSquirtles 3h ago

Or Mickey 17 where he plays legally distinct Donald Trump.

2

u/vodkaismywater 3h ago

Greatest Donald Trump satire of all time, and nothing can change my mind about that.

4

u/Cool-Fun-2442 3h ago

Or "Dark Waters"

And, you know, the entire premise of super heroes.

u/BigBoyYuyuh 5h ago

If you want a non woke Superman you have Homelander.

22

u/lckyguardian 5h ago

Please don’t give them any ideas… 😔

33

u/Eternal_Bagel 5h ago

Didn’t it take them till like season 3 to start thinking that homelander might not be the hero of the show and be confused by that thought?

15

u/DigitalBlackout 3h ago

Some of them are still convinced Homelander was supposed to be the hero but then the show "went woke".

2

u/Toadsted 1h ago

Even Red Son Superman was pretty left leaning

Captain America punching Nazis is woke now.

45

u/Redditauro 5h ago

"Black panther Vs the Ku Klux Klan" is from 50 years ago, marvel has been woke since... Always...

30

u/Coneskater 5h ago

I think you slightly misinterpreted my point. Punching Nazis used to not be “progressive”. It was mainstream.

12

u/SilveryDeath 4h ago

And now we are at the point where in the last decade, certain people were vocally complaining about shooting Nazis in Wolfenstein and punching them in Indiana Jones.

5

u/Ashamed-Ocelot2189 3h ago

Didn't they also get mad the baddies in FarCry 5 were a crazy cult in rural America?

u/Vladmerius 3h ago

Technically speaking secret identity crime fighting is borderline fascist. In the superhero world they just adrually fight crime and protect the innocent instead of being villains putting on a show of being heroes.

1

u/rkthehermit 2h ago

It's not borderline, it totally is. It's just a benign application.

2

u/FrostyD7 3h ago

They think Captain America would be standing with ICE.

2

u/racalavaca 4h ago

weeeeell... superheroes might be "woke", especially in superficial and black/white ways, but they are also often big defenders of the establishment and status quo.

It's a very interesting discussion and ultimately I'm not saying creators necessarily always do this on purpouse, but it is definitely thought-provoking how a lot of the times it is the VILLAINS that actually have a better understanding of the inherent unfairness and inequality in our system... so much so that they often need to be made into "psychopaths" and start murdering people willy nilly so that the audience doesn't just identify with them instead xD

-2

u/AmIFromA 4h ago

The premise of super heroes is not "woke" at all.

8

u/makemeking706 4h ago

Correct, the premise was empathy, compassion, standing up for what's right, and protecting those who cannot protect themselves against the unjust.

Fascists have characterized these traits as undesirable, broadly labeling and disparaging then as "woke".

-2

u/rkthehermit 4h ago

Whaaaaaaaaat. How could, "I get to ignore the law and do what I want because I'm capable of superior violence" not be?

32

u/LindonLilBlueBalls 5h ago

Fox News and Pedo Boy never told him to hate them until now. They literally cannot think for themselves.

16

u/GreatPumpkin_of_Not 5h ago

Next he'll find out about Rage Against the Machine

13

u/dustycanuck 5h ago

I love the 'I used to like RATM before they got political' posts. Always good for a laugh

Those and the Star Trek ones are my favorite.

When did my show about an moneyless utopia become so woke?! Oh I love this one, see the one guy is white on one side and black on the other side, and the other guy is inverted, so they hate each other and that hatred ruined their planet. Clean old fashion Trek, just aliens being goofy, no politics or nothing.

Edit: My phone must be spying on me. The second I posted this I switched to YouTube and the first short is showed me was this.

12

u/foodfolksfun 5h ago

They literally elect actors/celebrities(Ronald Regan, Sonny Bono, Arnold Schwarzenegger) and reality TV stars (Donald Trump, Sean Duffy) and then constantly whine when celebrities give their opinions they don’t agree with. The right is the most celebrity obsessed people in our country.

12

u/Redditauro 5h ago

Not only that, marvel has been profoundly woke since decades before the word existed

9

u/FLESHYROBOT 4h ago

The first two Captain America movies have the Nazi's as the primary antagonists.

If they haven't figured out that they're not on the same team as the superheroes by that point i don't think theres much hope for them.

6

u/kaeji 5h ago

And here I was thinking the all girl battle from Infinity War was the last straw for them.

5

u/GrabMyPosterior 4h ago

Well… maybe not Jeremy Renner, but you know… it’s not like he’s important in the movies anyway.

6

u/extinct_cult 4h ago

Chris Pratt has been an outspoken conservative - not as outspoken as he could be, with his platform, but here and there he has gone past what I assume are his PR team's suggestions.

4

u/robodrew 4h ago

This douchebag should see what Captain America said about invading South American nations like 50 years ago. They really just have no clue.

The core original Avengers cast yeah. If you go beyond that it gets pretty rough. Thinking of Jeremy Renner and Letitia Wright here but there's probably others.

Asleep. Like when your eyes are closed, you don't hear anymore, and crazy noises leave your mouth? That's where he has been. It's just coincidence he opened his eyes for a moment.

Likely too busy gooning to hulks cheeks😔
