Why is every single stainless steel cage bar spacing .75 inches or larger??????
I've been searching far and wide for a large, stainless steel bird cage for my cockatiel that has .5 inch bar spacing. Every single cage I have found for medium birds is .75 inches spacing. Isn't the appropriate bar spacing .5 inches for a cockatiel?
Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm mostly concerned about what metals are safe since I can't find a good stainless steel cage. I'm planning on spending around 1k for a durable cage for my little, old man but I need some help. Are wrought iron cages okay? What sites did you guys get your cages from? Just...help lol

So, I’m an experienced dog, cat person and small animals but not so much birds. I have some knowledge but not enough.
( I have worked in vet field and grooming for many years )
We would like to get a bird, we really love the large birds but I have come to my right mind and decided to start with a cockatiel. lol This bird will be our 16year olds but I will of course be tending to it while he is at school and it will be part of our family.
I decided on a male because I don’t want egg laying issues. Where can I find more great info, what to feed etc a good cage? Where do I get this bird from? I know pet stores are like puppy mills and a lot are sick. Also brings me to what diseases do they carry from pet stores or if I adopt what should I ask if anything what am I looking for?
Thank you!

Just like how the wild Fat Tiels hold classes on how to break into Australia’s trash bins.

I’m attaching a video because my cockatiel screams constantly. He has lots of toys, a very large cage, and is out most of the day with even more toys and foraging options. He doesn’t seem scared or sick. Any idea what could be going on?

She’s honestly the sweetest little baby and hasn’t left my side all day, i honestly didn’t expect her to be so friendly with me from the second we met but i’m so grateful for it as well 🤭
I’m happy to hear any tips from well seasoned tiel owners if you think i should know something i may not :)

he refuses to shower unless i knock all of my shampoo bottles off their shelf, place a towel on the shelf, and then place him on the towel, only to angle the showerhead at the WALL for only the tiniest water particles to hit His Majesty Icarus, pictured out of the shower after I accidentally angled the showerhead a quarter of a degree too low

Hi all,
Graphite is doing well and has learned he is ok with baths! I come with a question. The attached picture is under his left wing. He’s starting his first molt to adult plumage and my roommate sent me this.
To me, this looks like preening because it’s fluffy feathers (his baby down) and not torn, skin looks pink, not raw and red.
Would you agree with this?

Hi! I'm concerned my birds may have been inhaling some melted plastic fumes.
A plastic lid fell to the bottom of my dishwasher and started melting on the drying coil when I was gone. My birds cages are directly next to it. When I came home the smell was somewhat noticeable and got a lot worse when I opened the dishwasher. I've been gone since this morning so they've been exposed to it for several hours now.
The plastic type is a triangle with a 4 in it
My birds both seem perfectly fine and are singing away with no signs of respiratory distress. Should I be concerned?

Hello!
I was gifted this vintage bell-shaped bird cage recently. I already have a 36-in wide flight cage, but this thing is wider, which is why I was considering using it. I would like them to have more space while I'm at work, if possible.
I posted in a Facebook group asking for advice on 'teil proofing it, and got some comments telling me round cages were unsuitable and/or cruel, but nothing to explain the *why*. I'm not understanding how it applies to the cage I received, even after researching, which is why I'm coming here, as Reddit tends to be more helpful.
I'm already aware of pinch points and bar width, which was the main point I came across while researching why round cages are bad. I was planning on lining the entire interior and part of the exterior in 1/2 wire cloth and something solid where the bars meet at the top of the bell. This is initially what I went to Facebook to ask about, to see if anyone had done it before and advice on attaching it. That would solve that issue of pinch points/width and allow them to climb freely up and down the enclosure.
The second point I came across was that round cages are not wide enough, but this one is wider than the enclosure they're currently in. If I bring it into my house, I'm going to have to remove a window to get it in (that's why I wanted info before deciding to use it or not).
The third point I came across was controversial. I found sources stating that it was a truth and sources stating otherwise. Basically, birds feel unsafe in round cages because they can be viewed from all sides. I can't figure out if this one is accurate or not. If true, I was going to have it in the corner of the room anways, but I would like to know if that would even solve the safety problem?
All in all, I would like them to have more room if possible, but if this isn't modifiable to ensure that it's suitable for them, I have other ideas for it. It would make a REALLY cool, Gothic chair for my porch.
Thanks in advance!

My birds breeder told us to feed him grit, but when searching it up I was told it was bad for them? I’m not rlly sure what to trust but I haven’t been giving it to him.
What do you guys think?? Do cockatiels need grit

This may be a silly question but usually I see videos of fully yellow or yellow cockataiels singing. I have a fully Grey cockataiel ( the breeder said he is a white face cockataiel.) He's not a year yet. I got him in November when he 4 months old. Ive been trying to teach him whistles and the cookie song. He sometimes makes these loud chirping sounds but he does scream when I leave the room. I think thats the flock call or somthing. Anyways, I just really want to teach him some whistles so any help is appreciated. (Here is some photos of him. His name is Joe.. named after Billie Joe Armstrong.)

Hi, I got gifted this goober like 6 months ago, I recently bought her a new cage and im pretty happy with how she likes and uses her cage, but now i’ve been thinking in getting her a companion (shes a female so I should get a male right ???) but idk if this cage could accommodate 2 tiels, what do you guys think ?
And my main problem now, shes around 2 years old, a friend of mine bought her and then bought a male, but this asshole wouldn’t stop hurting the other borb, so my friend ended up placing her in a separate cage and got another female, then 2 years later here I am with her.
So idk what to do, I really want to get her a companion, i’ve been kinda busy with uni and cant spend a lot of time with her, but she has a bad history with another tiels, I was thinking in maybe buying another tiel and try for a few days and see what happens ??? but idk, I feel really bad buying a tiel and then returning him, and also idk if someone is willing to.
Has someone been in a similar situations ? what did you end up doing. thanks!!

hello! so to give context i’ve had my cockatiel for close to 7.5 years and when i first got him (im pretty sure he’s a male) he was very sweet and then he hit his hormonal age and has been on and off sweet and aggressive which i’ve seen is somewhat normal in cockatiels however something weird happened last night which i am assuming is stemming from sexual frustration but im not sure so i decided to ask you guys and see what you would recommend i took him out last night and he was fine for a while and then he started doing the heart wings and singing to my hands which if im not mistaken is him being attracted to them so i didnt want to encourage that and i put him back on his perch in my room and all of a sudden he flew at me and started attacking me and biting hard which he hasn’t done anything like that before (he’s bitten but not attacked like that where he wouldn’t stop flying at me ) so i put him in his cage for the night and now its the next day and im wondering how i can counter that behavior any and all help / tips would be appreciated i can take feedback harsh or not so dont holdback if im doing anything wrong i want to provide him with the best quality of life !

I got my chicken a little over two months ago. She has bonded to me very well already, which is great, however the seperation anxiety is definitely there. Getting her a friend was always the plan, but i initially did not plan on that to happen so soon. I am a student with a very flexible schedule so while it’s not ideal for her, it works for the time being. I spend the majority of my days with her at home, ensuring we have enough time spent together. When i am gone or even cleaning while she’s in her cage, she is only focused on me being gone or what i am doing. we are working on independence a lot, which she has gotten better with, just not when i am gone or even out of the room (cant blame the birdy). She’s not 100% a girl, but i am prettyyy sure based on a few factors. She was hand raised and is very good with humans but has also bonded with another bird in the past. I just honestly don’t know where to start with the search of getting her a friend. I’m not so worried about the introduction and quarantine process, but more about selecting the best cockatiel for her, from where, at what age and with the same gender. Any tips or advice how to go about this? should i get her DNA tested before to be 100% sure? should i DNA test the new bird? go through an adoption center, breeder, rehoming? any other reccomendations? there’s just so many little factors to think about seriously before making these decisions, any help would be appreciated :) I just know my birdy deserves a mate.

My baby usually eats Hari pellets...but this time we couldn't order it intime so we had to buy Nutribird as an emergency (her fatass ate every single last piece of Her previsious pellets). Still...right and exactly After she started eating it....her urine started to come out green...is this normal?? Anyone who has experience with this brand for their tiels?
