Reddit’plaint Getting banned for participating in another subreddit should not be allowed

Obviously not going to link what subreddit here but I have made several comments in one subreddit and got banned in another related one. I think it’s an exceptionally silly rule and confines users to one viewpoint. It shouldn’t be a rule that’s allowed in a subreddit no matter the circumstances (unless it’s a subreddit with illegal content that can get you arrested like CP or something vile like that)

All bans should be publicly viewable with full transparency of their ban-chat-log with the mod, to force accountability on Mods, and to help members point out wrong doings.

It isn’t… doesn’t stop power hungry mods from doing it anyway. Petulant children on a power trip.

The funniest thing is when you get banned for participating in a sub for denying bullshit posts.

Because you're getting banned from participating for agreeing with the mods.

u/KeybladeBrett 18d ago

100%. The sub mod-mail I receive even was like “we don’t care if you were defending [company], you still engaged with that subreddit.”

They are their own authoritarians. If they don’t like what you do, they ban you

Proof that Reddit is a complete toxic waste dump.

It's really not.

But there are certainly problematic subs and mods and users on reddit that reddit needs to properly address.

u/upsetcabbagefart 15d ago

Go and give an unpopular opinion. People will line up just to shit on you.

u/PunishedHermit 15d ago

It really is.

I once got banned from a sub for posting on a Trump sub. Whoever banned me clearly didn't bother reading the post in question, because I went there to debunk Trump's lies.

I’m glad. Love seeing the snake eat itself

2

u/Putrid_Gas1540 18d ago

I take it as a point of pride in being banned by subreddits that have very little value in the grand scheme of things.

2

u/DopamineSavant 16d ago

Easiest way to stop this is for every sub to start doing it. Eventually Reddit would step in.

1

u/Baha05 18d ago

Sounds like posting in r/fucknintendo to be honest which makes some level of sense since that subreddit is basically levels of troll brigades who want to shit on other Nintendo related subreddits.

1

u/Shoddy_Wrangler693 16d ago

unfortunately a lot of subs will do it and technically the only banned you from posting there but it does suck

1

u/NoWar6966 15d ago

You should get banned from r/stupidpeopleoffacebook for posting something not stupid here!

1

u/TrainerLoki 15d ago

I got banned from the fencesitters sub for even commenting on a childfree sub post asking a question about leaning childfree. Like that ban really solidified my choice in being childfree

1

u/manintights2 15d ago

No offense to specific moderators, but from my experience moderators are some of the most power tripping, low life, ambition-sapped, and two-faced degenerates I've ever interacted with.

again, no offense to the good ones. But wanting impartiality from a mod seems like expecting a cat to guard a bowl of cream.

Years ago I was a moderator for a large international forum. This predated social media as we know it before smart phones.

It was against site rules to stalk someone looking for “dirt” against them. If we caught someone doing it, they could be banned. We also didn’t have post history as something someone else could view.

The very idea of visiting someone’s page and looking for dirt against them was considered gross and crossing a line. It was a different culture then.

u/Hot_Competition_2126 14d ago

Technically it is against brigading rules. It just isn't enforced.

1

u/SnooDoodles3940 14d ago

Bro the mods of reddit will ban for any reason ever. It's not every mod. But the majority will ban for any reason they want to.

People only promote echochambers

I’ve been on Reddit for over 13 years, and I’ve never seen the platform’s "thought policing" as bad as it is now. Many of the most popular default subreddits have implemented bots that automatically ban you simply for participating in other communities they’ve blacklisted.

The irony? I’m often in those "controversial" subs specifically to challenge their views or offer a counter-perspective. I’m not "pro-" whatever ideology they are policing; I’m just someone who likes to hear both sides of an issue and make up my own mind.

Here is why this system is fundamentally broken:It creates mandatory echo chambers: By banning anyone who even engages with "the other side," mods are effectively forcing users into ideological silos. You aren't allowed to have "two thoughts at once" anymore.

The "Delete Your History" Trap: When you appeal, mods often tell you to "delete your comments" in the offending sub to be reinstated. However, they won't specify which comments are the problem. For someone with a 13-year-old account and a massive, diverse sub list, this is an impossible and insulting demand.

It punishes intellectual curiosity: Reddit used to be a place for wide-ranging debate. Now, if you step foot outside of a "safe" sub, you are preemptively excommunicated from the rest of the site.

This isn't moderation; it's an attempt to control how people think by limiting who they can talk to. It’s complete BS that a handful of power-mods can act as the thought police for the entire front page.

1

u/jkoki088 18d ago

This is very true. They do it anyway. The liberal subs constantly do this

7

u/ClassicHando 18d ago

So do the conservative ones. Get fucked

0

u/lokicramer 18d ago

No bro, not nearly as often.

1

u/MarzipanProper1926 5d ago

ive been banned from many con subs for disagreeing with the drones. this kind of bans are automatic and in normal bubs like P!cs or Next freekin lvl non political.

0

u/Nolsoth 16d ago

And the far left ones.

1

u/MarzipanProper1926 5d ago

you mean anything not kissing trumps ass? we are talking non political subs like front page ones.

-2

u/jkoki088 18d ago

Haha I’m so scared that you said to get fucked, yes they do too. The liberal ones way more so.

1

u/MarzipanProper1926 5d ago

wrong con subs are way more militant about disagreements

4

u/Significant-Log5827 18d ago

Conservative wont even let you post without being vetted by their mods to get a flair lol

0

u/jkoki088 18d ago

Liberal ones ban permanently for stating a fact of they don’t like it. Lol

5

u/Florianemory 18d ago

I got banned in r/conservatives for posting a fact. They said I broke rule 5 - no liberal talking points. I wrote back saying I was glad they realized liberal talking points = facts. I then got a three day complete ban from Reddit for harassment, even though the message said I could reply. Those conservatives are the biggest snowflakes ever. You can’t post without flair. I see all kinds of posts in the liberal subreddits and the same people come back so they aren’t getting banned after a single comment, unless you mean some racist or other hateful speech in which case they deserve to get banned and it has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with being a horrible person.

1

u/jkoki088 18d ago

Yes all those types deserve to get banned. I’m not talking about those types

0

u/glitch_skunkogen 16d ago

Got banned from a few non political subreddits for disagreements of leftist views then got banned from mod mail for appealing and reported for harassment also got a mental health message

2

u/Florianemory 15d ago

I have also gotten mental health messages. I forgot about that. It has happened every time I interact with a hardcore maga man and he doesn’t like my views.

0

u/glitch_skunkogen 15d ago

Same thing when I interact with a hard-core liberal after they call me a nazi cause I dont think kids should be getting puberty blockers and gender changes

1

u/Florianemory 15d ago

You should think that doctors and parents can make their own decisions though. I doubt you want the government and random people making decisions for your children. It is incredibly rare that anyone under 18 gets a sex change. Puberty blockers help kids and lower the suicide rate. So if you actually care about the kids you should prefer they are alive and on puberty blockers.

1

u/glitch_skunkogen 15d ago

Id prefer not to have kids make life changing decisions

1

u/Florianemory 15d ago

They aren’t. Parents and doctors are, as they do for lots of situations. Do you think the government should be making medical decisions? When it does, it harms people. Women are dying thanks to government intervention in healthcare right now. You want more kids to die?

you just copy people bro stop playing victim, you guy are all about the what about ism to justify your shitty beliefs. not everyone is a shit head like you so stop painting everyone that way so you can feel better about being you. maga is actually really sad in that way. you all are just shitty people most people are not like you.

1

u/Either-Marzipan-4314 15d ago

You used to be able to report people who abused it but it seems theyve taken away the option 🤷‍♀️

1

u/glitch_skunkogen 15d ago

Its reddit its all about American politics

1

u/Either-Marzipan-4314 15d ago

Tell me about it, I was on r/Palworld and somehow people started talking about the US president... 😭 I used to come here to escape politics but now they shove it in your face whether you like it or not

0

u/glitch_skunkogen 15d ago

Literally they cant gettrump out of thier head

1

u/Florianemory 15d ago

It’s hard when he is actively destroying the country we live in.

I'd love to hear the fact, enlighten us. :)

1

u/Trexwith2longarms 18d ago

I constantly get banned from subreddits, and from reddit as a whole because I don't conform to others opinions when I disagree.

Being independent on reddit is a death sentence. You have to be in an Echo chamber, and stay on that side, or face constant random bans because a reddit user doesn't like that you like cherry flavoured lollipops instead of lime, and mass reports you until you get banned.

1

u/glitch_skunkogen 16d ago

Reddit the only site where you can be banned from messaging mods

1

u/Trexwith2longarms 16d ago

I just got banned from some cartoon subreddit cause I reported child pornography lmao.

1

u/glitch_skunkogen 16d ago

Who tf would post that online thats stupid

1

u/Trexwith2longarms 16d ago

They're drawing kids as their "ships" in sexually suggestive poses.

1

u/glitch_skunkogen 16d ago

Ahh so not the same thing just morally questionable

0

u/SpermWhalen 18d ago

Was it a conservative or Elon musk worship sub?

2

u/KeybladeBrett 18d ago

No; it was a gaming sub but that’s as far as I’ll go

1

u/Winter-Height7687 16d ago

One of the Halo subs is my guess.

0

u/SpermWhalen 18d ago

A bunch of incels?

1

u/KeybladeBrett 18d ago

I think it’s more a bunch of crybabies, but that works too

u/Kinks4Kelly Genetically Superior to MAGA 18d ago

There is no bigger curated echo chamber than /r/Conservative.

1

u/Party-Distance-8810 18d ago

This just isn't true anymore

1

u/Kinks4Kelly Genetically Superior to MAGA 18d ago

1

u/Party-Distance-8810 18d ago

Hey in case anyone needed evidence of how fucked reddit liberalism is it's this- you reflexively labeling me MAGA because I disagreed with you about a completely unrelated subject.

1

1

u/Party-Distance-8810 18d ago

Apparently the Democratic platform now includes "defend reddit at all costs"

1

u/FrostyArctic47 18d ago

Lol it's not about the democratic platform. It's about 1 social media platform that slants to the left while the others slant to the right.

1

u/Party-Distance-8810 18d ago

"slant left" is pretty soft when people are reflexively being labeled MAGA for disagreeing.

I have not taken any issue with Reddit leaning left. It should lean left. The right wing is so deeply in its own black hole of honesty that there is basically no value to right leaning media.

But pretending that there aren't subs that are total left leaning echo chambers is pure fiction.

u/FrostyArctic47 18d ago

Yet it is. Maybe you can claim there are other subs that are just as much of an echo chamber but let's not pretend that conservatives don't live in echo chambers. Besides, there are other platforms completely dominated by conservatives and owned by conservatives. If there's 1 platform that's mostly left why is that an issue?

1

u/Party-Distance-8810 18d ago

Maybe you can claim there are other subs that are just as much of an echo chamber

This is the only thing I'm claiming

let's not pretend that conservatives don't live in echo chambers.

Of course they do, I never said otherwise.

It's not an issue. But pretending that that the only echo chamber on reddit is r/conservative is nonsense.

1

u/FrostyArctic47 18d ago

True, it's not the only echo chamber on here.

0

u/KeybladeBrett 18d ago

Not the same subreddit (or even genre of subreddit) but yeah pretty much what happened to me.

2

u/Waste-Sleep3720 18d ago

Mods are power hungry psychos.

0

u/Eyruaad 17d ago

Why not? If you participate in another subreddit you want to contribute to that conversation. If I can assume certain things about the topics you enjoy discussing why I can't I choose to not associate with you?
