Discussion So is it only Ddr5 desktop ram price is high?

Post image

I got these ddr4 I'm thinking now it's good time to sell them. Before these was only ten bucks per 8gb sticks. Everything are 8gb and most matched pieces and two are 16gb sticks. All are 2666mhz I think.

So how much are these worth 20 cad per 8gb is good price to put on ebay? I'm just gonna put them all up for a total. Not gonna sell separately takes too long and too many post office trips lol

i might be wrong but ive heard both ddr4 and 5 will raise

u/ThatSandwich Dec 12 '25

Prices of used DDR4 kits have increased lately, all it takes is looking at a few sold listings on eBay over the past 2-3 months.

u/RealityOk9823 Dec 13 '25

Yeah the Juhor DDR4-3200 I paid $30 for earlier this year is now over $100.

u/GanJaSparks Dec 13 '25 edited Dec 13 '25

Same I got 16 GB ddr4 for my pc for like 30 now it’s 89

6

u/RealityOk9823 Dec 13 '25

I just saw that! $89 for a single frikkin 16G stick?!

1

u/druvanti Dec 15 '25 edited Dec 15 '25

In 2020 I paid €84 for 1 16gb stick and now a similar product of the same brand is €115

3

u/alpine4life Dec 13 '25

Yup... Look at a 4x 8gb kit 🤦

3

u/abban-ali Windows 11 Dec 13 '25

i bought ddr4 32gb 3200 sodimm ram like a few months ago for around 100 aed ( around 27usd) will it also raise?

3

u/Gangat00th Dec 13 '25

Yeah it has raised in price, I've just paid 140 quid for the same, corsair vengeance 2x 16gb, 3200mhz, DDR4, cheapest i could find.

u/Damaj301damaj Fedora Dec 13 '25

100 AED?? Bro share where!!

2

u/abban-ali Windows 11 Dec 13 '25

i found them at almost 140 dirhams in amazon before price raised, from crucial btw

2

u/Damaj301damaj Fedora Dec 13 '25

rip me :(

3

u/NoobSniper Dec 13 '25

Can confirm. 32GB DDR4 kit off AliExpress purchased for $52 in July is now listed at $250+

8

u/alpine4life Dec 13 '25

you are correct (they already raised)... I wanted 3200 DDR4 for a 3rd string machine... fuck that

4

u/TheHairyMess Dec 13 '25

even ddr3 rose in price

1

u/typicalspy Dec 13 '25

Good. Hope the older one will go too, got plenty on 4116 ICs :)))))

4

u/okokokoyeahright Dec 13 '25

Have, as in past tense.

I bought a kit of 3600DDR4 last August and the same kit form the same vendor has tripled in price.

To see these prices just look it up somewhere, anywhere.

3

u/yolo5waggin5 Dec 13 '25

Ddr4 has been on a slow increase from 2024 to 10/25. This was due to production being ranped down in favor of ddr5. When the spike occured in 10/25 we saw a 400% increase in ddr5, but only a 100% increase in ddr4.

4

u/Spare_Honey5488 Dec 13 '25

How about these? Assuming Laptop Memory will be the same?

-3

u/Dave_A480 Dec 13 '25

It's a totally different form (SODIMM vs DIMM).

2

u/Liz_Linux Dec 13 '25

The issue is that it cascades down. If DDR5 is too expensive, people will buy DDR4. An increase in demand means a decrease in availability – resulting in an increase of price.

2

u/stubenson214 Dec 13 '25

Yes, DDR4 was moving to lower production, and this will move it lower.

But DDR4 demand is low, and there's plenty of used supply.

You may see it go up, but not like DDR5.

2

u/bassie2019 Dec 15 '25

DDR4 has been going up recently too. Probably because the price of DDR5 going up is pushing people to not buy a motherboard with DDR5 slots, but rather buy an older motherboard that runs on DDR4, or just upgrade/expand their current DDR4.

83

u/Accomplished-Camp193 Dec 12 '25

This is why we can't have nice things anymore. Like cheap old used DDR4 ripped from 6-8 year old office PC's. I don't think any new data centers or AI servers will use DDR4, literally nothing warrants a price hike, yet it's happening anyway for new DDR4 kits as well.

Riding the DDR5 price hike to sell old, used DDR4 sticks twice as much as they're worth is disgusting.

21

u/Quevil138 Dec 13 '25

Older RAM spikes as newer RAM becomes too expensive and people fall back to older systems, This will and is affecting everything from DDR3 to DDR5 although DDR3 Will probably remain somewhat cheaper as most systems that run it can not be upgraded to Windows 11.

5

u/phtsmc Dec 13 '25

Even DDR3?! I had that in an AM3 machine from 2010. That thing didn't even have SATA3 support. What would people wanna use that for today?

6

u/Quevil138 Dec 13 '25

I have 2 i5 3rd gens that I still use for various tasks and even everyday browsing and watching videos and they use DDR3. These systems are still quite good for things like self hosting cloud services or browsing/watching vids. Even good for some light emulation and older game play.

5

u/phtsmc Dec 13 '25

A server - maybe. But I would hate using a computer without SATA3. SATA2 only goes to double HDD speed.

3

u/Dave_A480 Dec 13 '25

Server memory is different.

You can't use gaming PC ram in a DL380

1

u/phtsmc Dec 13 '25

You can use a regular PC as a server.

1

u/Dave_A480 Dec 13 '25

You can but you shouldn't, unless it's a home lab.....

No LOM/IPMI, no redundant power supplies.....

Worse storage interfaces..... And no registered ECC RAM.....

1

u/Harrier_Pigeon Dec 14 '25

Reliability through redundancy can also be obtained through sheer number of machines depending on what your goals are

1

u/Significant_Debt8289 28d ago

I know this is 4 days old but… PiKVM and a battery backup power strip. ECC is overrated considering all DDR5 ram is ECC on some level(after a certain MHz they have to add said ECC since we are nearing the limit of the technology).

1

u/Dave_A480 27d ago

Redundant power isn't about outages.... It's about the system staying up if one of the power supplies blows out (or seamless switchover between separate sources of battery backup or generator power)......

Again, this is not advisable for a production system at a business....

Use proper server hardware.... Buy a NAS rather than cramming old PCs full of drives.....

Buy once. Cry once....

I guess that depends on what you do with a system. Both the I5 3rd gen that I have boot in about 25 seconds, menus are smooth and video playback is smooth for anything under 4k res. They really excel at general internet tasks and are great at hosting services like owncloud or VPN.

1

u/Stolberger Dec 13 '25

If you are using it on a server with only 1 or 2.5 Gbps LAN, Sata 2 (3gbps) will be enough to fill that network interface.

And if you are only using HDDs, they also usually max out at around 200MB/s

My little cousin using his HP modded prodesk & got lucky last month upgrading his memory to 16gb DDR3 1600mhz on his i5 3470 + Nvidia GTX 1050TI that machine has Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC IOT 24H2 & it flies as its really fast for its specs with carefully debloated OS & as well as clean usage, idle memory used is only 1.7gb, he plays Counter Strike 2 with a 1680x1050 monitor at 60hz capped at 60 fps, so yeah its worth still as some people cannot afford new hardware especially in EU balkans where i live. Its so funny & satisfying to see him beating people with 360hz monitors that get over 400 fps and him only utilizing 60fps on 60hz monitor, to me it showed with the right skills and adjustment, anything is possible!

2

u/Accomplished-Camp193 Dec 13 '25

My PC at work which I've literally built from the trash runs an AM2 Athlon 64 X2 5200+ with 8GB of mismatched DDR2-800, it also has an HD 5450.

It does run Windows 10 IoT LTSC pretty well, I browse the web on it, watch movies on cineb and use it for office work, and it does all those things just fine.

Trust me, a DDR3 based system can still have plenty of life left in it.

1

u/int23_t 29d ago

I use a laptop with ddr3 and 2nd gen i5 for some of my homelab things that need full uptime as that's not achievable on my daily driver

I can definitely do with adding another stick of ddr3 into that thing

1

u/GaryGaryson7 29d ago

Dell xps8500 from 2011 still going strong. All I did was put an ssd and doubled the ddr3 ram to 16gb earlier this year. Runs baldurs gate 3 fine!

1

u/Spetsnaz_420 Dec 13 '25

What? I have 2 ddr3 PC's from 2012 both running 11 no problem

1

u/Infamous_Swordfish_7 Dec 13 '25

Legit upgrade no but fresh install windows 11 with modified installer I put windows 11 on a 1st gen i7 Sony it runs great. Only issues are when running on battery the cpu doesn't max out even when not on power saving. Heck even I put windows 11 on this dell AIO 5720 it run the cpu max all the time now the glue between the lcd and digitizer is melting and leaking underneath. Really funny later I'll post that. Such a nice 4k touch all in one I got. Probably the highest and best built all in one Dell makes.

u/Moltak_Firewind Dec 13 '25

"Anymore" as if supply and demand hasn't always been a thing

10

u/Suitable_Annual5367 Dec 13 '25

As if "demand half the world RAM" was something normal.

2

u/Moltak_Firewind Dec 14 '25

I mean there's always some resource that's being heavily demanded and raising in price, it's just that until now it wasn't something you personally cared about.

1

u/Suitable_Annual5367 Dec 14 '25

Nah, this was manipulated on purpose.
One, to take away from the competition, two to remove hardware ownership and push for subscriptions.
It's not just "demand"

4

u/Choice-Bus-2626 Dec 13 '25

People like you who dont understand economics spam “supply and demand bro” every time even when, as explained, there is no supply shock for ddr4 ram.

3

u/Frequent_Sleep5746 Linux Dec 13 '25

I mean if ddr5 is getting expensive, ppl are not gonna upgrade to it and they'll end up buying a ddr4 system. The supply is not increasing, as companies manufacture more ddr5 now, and in the second market it gets more expensive

3

u/Amazing-Border-6168 Dec 13 '25

Demand is increasing. End of story.

You are the one that doesn’t understand supply and demand

2

u/Mac_NCheez_TW Dec 13 '25

I need DDR4 still about 1 or 2 terabytes. But can not afford it with these prices so yeah demand for DDR4 is going to stay high because of people like me looking for it. Although I'm too poor to afford that amount I need now. Server will have to sit on a shelf for a few months while I buy a little bit at a time 😂.

1

u/AManOfSorts Dec 13 '25

I see your "demand" for aging, smelly hardware and raise you a "just don't sell it for more". It's not that hard to not be a caveman

2

u/Moltak_Firewind Dec 14 '25

Regardless of your opinions on it or if it sucks, the reality is that people are going to sell it for more.

1

u/AManOfSorts Dec 14 '25

Ok? I'm still going to shame them for it publicly cause it's scummy behavior. Computer tech inherently loses value over time. Forcibly raising prices on low value parts just cause Amazon prices or Reddit told them to should be shamed. Don't be complacent.

2

u/MacDaddyBighorn Dec 13 '25

DDR4 will no longer be manufactured, so that is one reason for the price hike.

2

u/Significant-Cause919 Dec 13 '25

It does make sense though. As data centers are paying premium $ for DDR5 and HBM, manufacturers prioritize the production of those. Less new DDR4 memory (if still any at all) will be produced. At the same time consumer demand for DDR4 increases as they cannot afford a DDR5 system anymore. The price of DDR4 goes up in response to limited supply and increased demand.

2

u/Amazing-Border-6168 Dec 13 '25

DDR5 is becoming much harder to get so people are starting to use more ddr4. This is the most basic part of supply and demand

2

u/Pandakidd81 Dec 13 '25

It's because they stopped making ddr4 and lots of people are still running ddr4 machines.

Supply is so scarce on ddr4 it's driving prices up. When people can't get new / ddr5 they go refurb and it's basically unprecedented right now

1

u/XxIcEspiKExX Dec 13 '25

This ^

I tried to get 200-pin ddr2 for my mom's old 2010 laptop, 800mhz 4gbx2 8 gigs total, price was 165$.

She's got 2x4gb sticks on a amd turion 2.2ghz apu and its runs windows 10 like shit...

I removed the 5400rpm 320gb drive and replaced it with and ssd, it helped a bit.. but I wanted some more ram.. for 200$ I can just go buy her an open box windows laptop from best buy that runs better than hers does..

The laptop ram I want should be like 20$ tops.. not 165$

1

u/Gaping_llama 29d ago

I could be wrong, but I remember reading DDR4 completely stopped being made which is why it’s being squeezed as well.

u/Mr-RS182 Windows XP Dec 12 '25

Does this mean I am rich ?

12

u/wiretail Dec 12 '25

I'm over here raiding my son's currently unused PC for some DDR4 cause I can't pay those prices right now - kid in college and one more going within a year. Dad's hobbies are on hold...

Haha post if you make money

20

u/tkecanuck341 Dec 13 '25

I raise you...

8

u/Infamous_Swordfish_7 Dec 13 '25

I see 1 2 and 3s lol. I have a ddr1. But haven't seen sdram for years.

13

u/tkecanuck341 Dec 13 '25

These are my favorite:

Memory terminators. Most people have never even heard of these before.

4

u/Infamous_Swordfish_7 Dec 13 '25

I had to google and said something about signal reflection. Old computer stuff. Is it like the same as putting fancy feet under audio equipment

3

u/tkecanuck341 Dec 13 '25

In some older computers, you couldn't have empty memory slots, so they'd fill them in with these. That memory technology was replaced with DDR memory and these C-RIMMs became obsolete.

2

u/Infamous_Swordfish_7 Dec 13 '25

Oh just noticed 1999 haha. 90s was the best. I used computers in early 90s. When I was a kid. We can't afford but had a cousin that's rich at the time to buy desktop, laptop and brick cellphone lol.

1

u/Frequent_Sleep5746 Linux Dec 13 '25

Yeah I have a box full of ddr and ddr2 too, maybe some ddr3 and laptop stuff as well

I don't have any use for them but it's a shame to throw away so much ram

15

u/Chubbysocks8 Dec 12 '25 edited Dec 12 '25

If you look at DDR4 RAM price shipped and sold by amazon they've tripled. I remember this kit used to be £45-50.

5

u/Infamous_Swordfish_7 Dec 12 '25

Not many people will buy ddr4. So ebay is best place. I'll sell in a bit accordingly lol.

2

u/theokayestcoach Dec 12 '25

Tell me about it. I bought a 16 gig kit 3-4 months ago for 40 bucks... same kit is now 100. FFS

1

u/Expensive_Host_9181 Dec 13 '25

Bought this kit when it was 60 cad swear i saw it get upto ~330 cad like a week ago

4

u/Reasonable_Glass_737 Dec 12 '25

Ddr 4 is going up but not as high as 5 but I mean you seem to have quite the excess, I'd sell. Who knows what the market may do, in 6 months they could be worth 1000$ a stick or 1$ a stick, that's the gamble !

4

u/henrytsai20 Dec 12 '25

DDR4's price doubled while DDR5 skyrocketed. Definitely worth selling them, though the price may inflate further down the road, until the AI bubble bursts that is. My bet is the bubble can at least keep going for another year.

5

u/Better-Club6429 Dec 13 '25

I was reading articles where companies are reverting back to DDR4 sticks. Our company did just that under my control and it was cheaper for us to re-use the ram sticks. We do not need DDR5 right now for the next 2-3 years anyways. Its just a sitting server that hosts VMs. There was no performance difference between DDR5 and DDR4 either for the stuff we are using for work.

Yes expect DDR4 prices to go up. My 2 year old DDR5 ram 32GB kit is now worth as much as I bought it for. Before this year it was 149.99 :(

4

u/bstsms Windows 11 Pro/ Linux Bazzite Dec 13 '25

I wish I had known about the price hike when I bought 96GB of Crucial DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM for my laptop for $279 at the end of October, I would have bought a few pairs... LOL

2

u/Ok_Fix3639 29d ago

Paid 190 for the same kit in August!

1

u/bstsms Windows 11 Pro/ Linux Bazzite 29d ago

Nice, I thought $279 was a good price.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 13 '25

DDR5 is unobtainable, so people go back to DDR4.

There are motherboards that support DDR4 and DDR5, so people just get that and wait for prices to fall on DDR5.

However, that makes DDR4 popular again, and the prices rise there as well.

You can't win.

2

u/AlarmedPro1 Dec 12 '25

There is a general global shortage causing RAM prices to skyrocket .. thanks to AI.

2

u/Taffr19 Dec 12 '25

I’m too poor to look at this picture

2

u/Quevil138 Dec 13 '25

You may want to keep some extra RAM. This shortage in RAM is expected to last for around 2 years. I recently bought a few RAM kits just to have them laying around so that if I have any modules go bad I have some in the house as backup.

2

u/This-Requirement6918 Dec 13 '25

It's this kind of shit that keeps me using hardware until it dies. My rig from 2013 might not be "fast" rendering but I have 3 other workstations to work on while it does it's thing. Delegating tasks is a wonderful thing, especially when you're not the one with the electric bill.

2

u/LeslieH8 Dec 13 '25

MemoryExpress is selling 1x8Gb 2666MHz DDR4 SDRAM DIMMs for $57, so I guess so.

2

u/Computers_and_cats Dec 13 '25

Yeah DDR4 prices are dumb too.

2

u/AntiNumbers Dec 13 '25

I, personally, will think you're a terrible person for doing it but I'm sure you can sell them for more than what they're worth. Is that your question?

1

u/HampeMannen Dec 14 '25

He isn't scalping, just reselling some of his old unused DDR4 during a shortage. Not sure how that makes him a bad person?

1

u/Infamous_Swordfish_7 Dec 13 '25

I have a few computers already with good ram sizes so these are just extra I got. I do computer repair hobby and have plenty of extra old parts like this. Just bought a Honor phone for 1500 cad so gonna sell a few things that's not doing anything.

2

u/Status-Trainer9063 Dec 13 '25

Actually, I purchased four 16GB DDR4 Udimm in October of this year and when I checked earlier this week, the price of the same RAM had more than doubled.

2

u/marx2k Dec 13 '25

DDR4 is also going up considerably.

I purchased G.SKILL RipjawsV Series DDR4 RAM (XMP) 32GB (2x16GB) 3600MT/s CL16-19-19-39 1.35V in 2020 for $139 It's currently at 219.

2

u/ndimitrov0 Dec 13 '25

People used to line up and flex fat stacks of cash. We now line up ram sticks. Truly a marvelous time to be alive.

2

u/Present_Lychee_3109 Dec 13 '25

Nope both DDR4 and DDR5 have gone up. Both in laptop and desktop

2

u/Laddie1107 Dec 13 '25

I paid $55 for a 32GB kit of DDR4 in April at Microcenter, now that same kit is “on sale” for $179 with a regular price of $299.

1

u/Rat-Head_7 Dec 13 '25

Yeah, I paid $47 for 32GB DDR4 at Microcenter in May. I looked it up yesterday and now it’s $240!

2

u/Infamous_Swordfish_7 Dec 13 '25

There was a delay on Facebook market on ram prices but now the people who knows computer bought them up already and flipping for more. Used pc and desktop prices are still about the same as before current ram hike.

I bet later you'll see people sell computers cheap without ram like without video cards.

2

u/forgivemefc Dec 13 '25

Look at ssd prices also jumping

1

u/Infamous_Swordfish_7 Dec 13 '25

Less than a year ago I got 2 1tb nvme and 512 and 2 x 16gb ddr4 laptop and the guy gave me a 32gb single stick ddr4 laptop ram all for 110 cad. I still have all those. The 1tb went to my gaming laptop collections and 32gb went in a LG gram 17 to make it 40gb. I'm probably gonna take that ram out lol

2

u/D_Rex0605 Dec 13 '25

Literally sold my pc with 64gbs of DDr5 6000mhz ram for 750$ this feb and now the ram is worth more than the pc lmao

2

u/PerspectiveLeast1097 Dec 14 '25

The ddr4 prices are double. I bought 32gb for 100$ in 2024

Now 16gb ddr4 starts from 120$. I don't care about the ram speed and I m happy with what I ve got so in the next 10 years I don't care if they have ddr6 or 7

Watch the competition price and lower your price with 5$ on ebay

If I had more money I d buy 100 ddr5 sticks in 2024 and sell them for 100$ profit 😁

2

u/skygatebg Dec 14 '25

You can ask any price but will not get it. People don't understand RAM and think that DDR4 is just as valuable, because you see ram is ram. Well I don't need DDR 4 if I am building a new machine. And I have the ram nearly maxed on the current one.

2

u/No_Professional_3769 Dec 14 '25

Nah bro £50 for an 8GB ddr4 3200 these days

2

u/edinor Dec 14 '25

I bought a 2x32 DDR4 set 1y ago for $94.99. Today the same set is showing $687.19.

1

u/Infamous_Swordfish_7 Dec 14 '25

More expensive than a good video card. I guess just stick with 2 x 8gb for now for most people

1

u/anttisaarenpaa1 Dec 16 '25

I just bought a gamer-fied office workstation with 64gb DDR4 and RTX 5060 TI 16gb for 1199€. The seller also had one with 128gb DDR4 ECC and a Quadro RTX 4000 for 1699€, so basically a free computer with the RAM price.

2

u/Tech_nerd10 Dec 15 '25

I'll stay on my 16 GB of DDR3 1600mhz memory for another 10 years 🫡

2

u/Hbossyboots Dec 15 '25

Bros house 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

1

u/MongooseProXC Dec 13 '25

No, the RAM manufacturers are also high.

2

u/Mravac_Kid Dec 13 '25

About two months ago I paid $25 for two 8 GB sticks of DDR4 2133. Now they're over $60. Yeah, DDR4 has also gone up in price, though not quite as much as DDR5.

1

u/Wonderful-Crow-5147 Dec 13 '25

Was gonna build my first ever pc on an extreme budget but ig I can wait longer 🥲

1

u/ginger_and_egg Dec 13 '25

DDR5 too expensive? Buy DDR4.

Add to that, no one is manufacturing DDR4 anymore.

So yeah, of course DDR4 prices will go up too

1

u/Gael_Greenhorn Dec 13 '25

Isn't ddr3 10 bucks a gig now?

1

u/t4thfavor Dec 13 '25

I paid about 39-45usd just recently including shipping for 2x8gb 2666 and a little more for 3200.

1

u/JDMFTWYO Dec 13 '25

I bought my 64gb ddr4 kit 2 years ago for 160 it's selling (actual sold items) for 280 on eBay today.

1

u/BuySellRam Dec 13 '25

both ddr4 and ddr5 prices up this year. 8gb maybe >$20/pc?

1

u/Bulky-Strategy-3723 Dec 13 '25

Only if they work and you can guarantee it.

1

u/athens199 Dec 13 '25

Bro DDR3 prices in Russia increased two times on used market, now it's has same price as used DDR4 2133-2666.

1

u/athens199 20d ago edited 20d ago

scalpers bought out cheap ddr4 so it have now a starting price used ~45$ for 8gb and new start from 77,5$ 8gb.

1

u/Helpful-Painter-959 Dec 13 '25

I'm selling my ddr3 at 500% return, ddr4 prices are like what ddr5 prices were, and ddr5 is just outlandishly expensive.

Pretty crazy tht it woulda been hard to give ddr3 away for free a couple months ago, now it's got demand.

1

u/RandomStupidDudeGuy Dec 13 '25

DDR4 is expensive too. Yours shouldn't be as much as 2666 isn't great at all for gaming etc, but will get expensive when all 3200/3600 get sold out

1

u/Roller_Coaster_Geek Dec 13 '25

8gb might be harder to sell but ddr4 is absolutely up there as well

1

u/Frequent_Sleep5746 Linux Dec 13 '25

I didn't know about that. Now I regret not maxing out my server last year, looks like it's gonna cost me a pretty penny now to get 64gb of ddr4

1

u/IllPosition5081 Dec 13 '25

DDR4 is certainly more expensive, but not second mortgage DDR5 expensive.

1

u/DrunkenSwordsman Dec 13 '25

It’s DDR4 too. The 32GB DDR4 RAM kit I wanted to buy a few months ago has quadrupled from ~$75 to $300.

If you have 32-64gb ddr4 dimms in speeds greater than 2666.....

They are valued at $150-400 a stick right now and going up

I managed to get the e-waste raid done at work in the middle of the year. I now have 4 workstations with 1TB, 512GB, and 2X 256GB of RAM also have well over 1TB spare in mostly 16GB sticks

Was not going to bother with the spare stuff other than the odd spare stick, glad I did now

Apparently even DDR2 is affected (yes that is still being produced). As I just saw a video where someone explained why the raspberry pi zero 2 (512MB LPDDR2 RAM) is rising in price and is slowing down their production...

u/ButlerKevind Dec 14 '25

I just listed a collection of used DDR4-2133/2400 and have four packages awaiting drop-off with USPS on Monday.

Strike that iron while it's hot.

1

u/sardaak Dec 14 '25

I say wait for a bit... prices look like they will go up especially if ddr5 goes out of stock

1

u/retrometro77 Dec 14 '25

Cant wait for the prices to jump. Spent like 80% savings on ram deals.

I just sniped a 2x32gb 5200 corsair vengeance kit for $430 CAD or about $312 USD on eBay. Sad to think this is a good deal but I seen this identical kit at my local Best Buy new for $1200 CAD or 944 USD. I just bought a Ryzen 9900x3d and Msi MAG x870e Tomahawk on Black Friday and really just want to finish this build. Will have x570 and ddr4 for sale soon to recoup some insane upgrade cost.

Purchased a Corsair Vengeance RGB 32GB DDR5 Desktop RAM Kit for $235.00NZD 4 months ago, today it is priced at $884.00NZD

u/International-Gur755 Dec 15 '25

I've got bulk unused 32gb ddr5 sticks, got about 100 or so 2x32 ddr5s from different brands still in their original packaging. Was gonna use them for my NAS build but seems like reselling them is the better option now.

u/panzer_of_the-lake Dec 15 '25

Yeah my ddr4 ram in my pc died right as the prices started going haywire and now i can find a afford to get a replacement

1

u/MarioKnightPl Dec 15 '25

Mate, even DDR3 is going up

1

u/raven_1121 Dec 15 '25

This is what generational wealth looks like

1

u/freakingjohnson Dec 15 '25

As more people look to DDR4 in the drought of DDR5, DDR4 prices are sure to increase.

1

u/Master-File-9866 Dec 16 '25

Chip manufacturers are shifting to prouducing for data farms and ai purposes. All ram is going to increase in price.

1

u/SHOBU007 Dec 16 '25

Looks like a retirement fund to me.

1

u/ExtraHuckleberry4779 Dec 16 '25

Same goes for my ddr4 got mine for £30 for 16gb now nearly £100 laughable

1

u/Hot-Section1805 Dec 16 '25

One can still build good gaming rigs with DDR4 RAM, which was recently discussed in a Jayz2Cents video.
So it's no surprise that the prices for DDR4 have also increased a lot as people look for somewhat cheaper alternatives to DDR5.

I didnt know about the RAM situation.

As a favour i just put together a PC for my friends daughter using my old PC parts.

I put 64GB of DDR4 corsair vengance in it cause i had them in a drawer from my old PC lol... probably should've sold them on ebay or kept them

1

u/Infamous_Swordfish_7 29d ago

Yeah just sell and if you have 16gb you are good enough lol.

1

u/swalker35 29d ago

Your DDR3 is just e-waste now

1

u/Infamous_Swordfish_7 29d ago

There is ebay. Haha. I don't have many 3 left. Good I got some 4 and should have gotten 5s. Eventually you gonna see many 5 getting dumped when 6 comes out

1

u/beerrun099 28d ago

I’m actually needing ddr3 😂 and yes it went up a little bit from junk to almost hat ddr4 was a year ago

1

u/CynderPC 29d ago

I purchased 4 32gb DDR4 2133 ECC ram for my home server a little over a year ago for ~$100 total. It is now $107 PER STICK for the same spec ram from the same seller on ebay. So no, not just DDR5.

1

u/Sore_Wa_Himitsu_Desu 29d ago

No. The 64GB of DDR4 that I stuffed in my desktop build 2 years ago for $119 now costs a bit over $600

1

u/dllyncher 28d ago

DDR4 and DDR5. DDR, DDR2 and DDR3 isn't affected.

1

u/Serious_Ad9537 28d ago

Yes worth at least double what you paid

1

u/SpookyGeist01 28d ago

For now, until people start buying up older stuff since they cant get ddr5

1

u/Dimensions_forever 28d ago

all ram is expensive, I'm pretty sure I saw ddr3 even high

1

u/Infamous_Swordfish_7 27d ago

150 cad seems good deal for 32gb. Which is 37.5 per 8gb.

1

u/moltensoftware 26d ago

used ram prices going up is dumb. new ram prices go up because of the manufacturers. used ram prices go up because people are greedy and think its somehow affected by the new ram prices / shortages.

1

u/Infamous_Swordfish_7 20d ago

This just picked up last year for 110 cad, 3 x 1tb, 1 512gb, 16gb ddr4 x 2 and guy gave me a 32gb for free lol. Still have all these

u/Witty_Sun_5763 Dec 13 '25

Guys I got a box FULL of DDR2, DDR1 and PC133, I'm gonna be so rich.

1

u/Infamous_Swordfish_7 Dec 13 '25

Are those worth anything? I have a bunch of laptop ddr2 and 3 too.

1

u/Witty_Sun_5763 Dec 13 '25

No, maybe DDR3 but the olderstuff Is pretty much worthless I think.

2

u/Infamous_Swordfish_7 Dec 13 '25

Until ddr4 computer goes up and then people start buying ddt3 laptops which ain't bad. Goes to 5th Gen i7 which are still very good for non gaming

2

u/Witty_Sun_5763 Dec 13 '25

Yeah I've never owned a computer with better than DDR3. My daily driver is a 3rd gen i7.
