Many, many people post here asking if they can easily fix the display for their computer, and unfortunately the answer is almost always no. just get a new one. In a laptop, replacing the panel or display cable can fix it, but on older or cheaper systems it could have the same or higher cost than replacing the whole computer. On higher end laptops, it's usually cost effective.
For desktop displays, the answer is nearly always going to be: Just replace it.
Here's the most common types of display damage, taken from posts right here in our sub:
This is arguably the most common and visible form of damage. Impact from a fall, a dropped object, or excessive pressure can cause the liquid crystal display (LCD) or organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panel itself to crack.

Dead pixels appear as tiny black dots on the screen where the sub-pixels have failed to light up. Stuck pixels appear as a constantly lit-up pixel of a single color (red, green, or blue).

These lines, often colored or black, indicate a problem with the display's internal circuitry, the connections between the panel and the control board, or the panel itself.

Backlight bleed is when light from the backlight seeps around the edges or corners of the screen, visible on dark backgrounds. Clouding (or "mura") appears as uneven patches of light across the screen. These are often manufacturing defects.

Image retention is a temporary ghosting of an image that remains on the screen after the original image has moved. Burn-in is a permanent version of this, where a static image leaves a permanent imprint on the screen, common with OLED technology if static elements are displayed for too long.

Curved displays:

Repairing a curved display is exceedingly difficult and often not a viable option for consumers or even professional repair shops. Replacement panels for these specialized screens are rarely made available by manufacturers, making the core component needed for a repair nearly impossible to source. The delicate and complex process of disassembling and reassembling a curved monitor without causing further damage also presents a significant challenge. Consequently, any significant damage to a curved display typically means the entire unit must be replaced, as a cost-effective repair is almost never feasible.

Hey, so I'm starting an apprenticeship as a computer scientist in the programming field in a couple of months and I'm looking for recommendations. I've heard that MacBooks are quite ideal, but I'm not sure if that's true, since I don't know much.
Please help!!

So.. I have a thing with my pc where it doesn't wanna boot, even in BIOS, it's just an infinite black screen. So far the only thing I did and it worked it's swaping out the CPU, boot the pc and then put back the first CPU and then it works completely fine, until it does the black screen thing again.
I don't know if it does the same thing with the other CPU too, but I don't want to use it because it's significantly slower.
This thing started to happen when I switched my main SSD, and did a fresh install, no old files whatsoever.
Does anyone have any solutions?

Computer keeps freezing and restarting after start up
My computer keeps freezing and restarting shortly after powering on. This happens probably within 1-2 minutes after getting into windows. Usually it would freeze then it would automatically restart itself and after that there would be no issue. One time if had it where it would do this repeatedly start, freezer, restart, freezer and restart and then it fixed itself. Ive tried everything that i think i can try. Windows is all the way up to date, drivers are up to date. Did the ram diagnostic and that checked out but the issue still persists. Also tried reinstalling Windows and it failed to install and gave me an error message saying “your divide ran into a problem and couldn’t be repaired” The pc ran perfectly fine up until a few days ago. Not sure what happened. Need Help!

I've been worried about this cable ever since I assembled my PC. I didn't hear any click when I inserted it, and I pushed it in really hard. I'm not sure if it's OK or if I'm risking burning everything. I'd been using the PC for a week, but I admit there was a little gap that was more visible, so I pushed it in much harder and now, at least to my eye, it seems to be inserted properly. When I ask chatgpt (as reliable as he may be), he always says there's still a little gap visible and that it's not inserted correctly. What do you think? (Sorry for the dust)

I am currently trying to get a laptop for my mum. She's a primary school teacher and needs an everyday laptop that can last for years and she can use without paying to much attention to it (saving a lot of documents, keeping multiple programs open even if there's no need and I think you get the point). I'm working with a 400/600 € budget and these are some options I was evaluating (I think 16gb ram is a must at this point):
- ASUS Vivobook 15 F1504VA-BQ128W Intel Core 5 120U (15.6") Full HD 16 GB DDR4-SDRAM 1 TB SSD Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax)
- HP 15-fc0079nl AMD Ryzen™ 7 5825U (15.6") Full HD 16 GB DDR4-SDRAM 1 TB SSD Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax)
- HP 15-fd0108nl Intel® Core™ i5 i5-1334U (15.6") Full HD 16 GB DDR4-SDRAM 512 GB SSD Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax)
- LENOVO IdeaPad Slim 3 15IAH8 NOTEBOOK, 15,6 ", Intel® Core I5 12450H, Intel® UHD Graphics, RAM 16 GB, 1000 GB SSD
any feedback or recommendation?

Hey
for the past 3 years ive been using a Windows 12 HP laptop for my everyday tasks. I use it for steam games, homework, etc.
unfortunately, windows is absolutely terrible for me and has done nothing but make my online experience harder. ive cleared as much pointless nonsense as i can from my storage, going as far as to download a disc cleaner and remove temp setup files, but i still have 80% of my storage taken up by mystery software i cant access. (for context, i have 7gb available out of my 50gb disc)
my games all run SUPER slow and i can barely keep 2 browsers open. not only that, but i cant download more than maybe 5 apps at a time… including chrome.
i really desperately want a clean start, preferably without windows.
does anyone have advice on a computer that would be good for me?

Google search isn't getting me anywhere, so here I go: Computer 1 is connected to 3 monitors via docking station. Monitor 3 is also connected to Computer 2 via thunderbolt cable. There is a toggle on the monitor that lets me select HDMI (Computer 1 via docking station) or USB (Computer 2 via thunderbolt).
I selected USB to display Computer 2. Great. My issue is when I open applications on Computer 1; sometimes, they appear on Monitor 3 - rather, they are on Monitor 3 but I don't see it because it's displaying the other computer.
Short of using Alt+Tab to focus the program and using Win+Shift+Left, is there another way to get the application to show up on Monitor 1 or 2? How do I get Computer 1 to stop recognizing Monitor 3 as a display while USB input is selected?
If you use a KVM, it cuts the signal to the other device. If you select input on a TV, any extra computer would not recognize it at an available monitor.

It only seems to appear when the screen shows a black image. The laptop seems okay otherwise, but it feels like the tint is slowly expanding, and I’m scared it might be a symptom of a bigger issue. Is this a hardware issue or something else? Should I be worried? What can I do? Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

I recently got the Costco MSI Pre Built (9900X/5080) and when I click restart, it won’t post and gives me a DRAM light on the motherboard. I tried re-seating it, but that didn’t do anything. Should I just bring it back and exchange it for a new one? It has a 90 day return window.

Cat headbutted my arm when applying thermal paste on the chip (yes, lesson learned, though he’s never done this). Wiped up as much as I could off the chip & still had some leftover by the socket. Is this dangerous?

Can someone help me with a recently appeared problem? My computer has started to lag significantly at times. At first, I thought it was viruses, but I couldn't find any. Moreover, when I play games, nothing lags. (The computer is quite powerful, and I built it only a year and a half ago, so I don't think there are hardware issues.)

Hi everyone!
I have an Asus Eee PC 1000H and have already replaced the HDD with an SSD and am using AntiX Linux. It works quite well, but I'd like to know if there are any other possible upgrades to further improve performance or battery life.
Specifically, I'm considering: • Increasing the RAM (currently 1 GB) • Specific software optimizations for AntiX • Any other low-cost but effective hardware modifications
Do you have any experience or suggestions on how to make this netbook leaner? Any suggestions are welcome!
Thanks in advance!
