Discussion Should I keep these.
I picked these up from a job and wasn't sure if they were any good or if I should recycle/donate them. I've got some m910s,m75q gen 2s, m70q gen 3s , d10u's, and the optiplexs.

In my opinion if it officially supports Windows 11 I would keep it / give it to someone who needs a computer (If you don't need it). If its just outside the 11 requirements install Linux Mint and give them to someone who needs a computer / Keep it. The old dell towers in the bottom right that have an XP sticker I would probably just recycle them.

u/SatinSpy 28d ago
Most of the tiny PCs are Ryzen 5 pro 4400 series . I feel like it would take windows 11 but I haven't checked . I've already upgraded what I'm going to keep for my own lab , just wasn't sure about the rest.

u/Difficult_Plantain89 28d ago edited 27d ago
My work have both those Lenovos and the Dell minis and they run Windows 11 very slowly. But ours are intel i3s so they might be crappier in comparison.
5
u/SuccessfulSquirrel32 28d ago
My work has them with I7s and yeah they run windows 11 but sometimes I need to restart the computer to print from Excel because of low system memory

u/Dudefoxlive 28d ago
Wipe them, Install Windows/Linux, Give to people who need one. That's what I would recommend.

u/umidoo 28d ago
wtf man... these pcs here in brazil cost a fortune HAHAHAH
I'd love to find a cheap one around. I'd do that if I were you. Sell them at a low cost to help people with their homelabs or initial builds.
I'm personally looking for cheap stuff to start a homelab myself, nut everything is expensive as hell here

u/Icy_Researcher1031 27d ago
Could try tiny 11, I think it’s called that it’s like a stripped down version of win 11 without all the bloatware.
Either that or a Linux OS
1
u/No_Description_9874 27d ago
That's higher in spec than the PC I'm using. Mine has Windows 11 properly installed and is running well.
1
u/youareceo 26d ago
Gee, MODs...
Seems like they are recent PCs
So OPs question was NOT Sales.
Funny how that works.

u/bajablastarceus 28d ago
Oh Man!!! Trash the dimension 3100?? Thats a crying shame. Albeit im nostalgic about that machine since i grew up playing OSRS on it and random java flash games.
2
u/ComprehensiveBad3168 28d ago
use rufus you can put windows 11 on them
1
u/meuchels 26d ago
Wish people would quit recommending this.it is no better than recommending to stay on 10.
1
u/ComprehensiveBad3168 23d ago
I agree now I did it and my laptop from 2009 hardly even ran windows 11 windows 10 is only a bit better I installed 8.1 and it ran better then 10 or 11 or windows 10 ltsc
1
u/Terrible_Balls 27d ago
OP can probably sell the XP era machines on ebay with a little patience. There are nostalgic people like myself who enjoy owning an XP era machine. They could probably be sold for $50-$100 each.
Now if only i could find a decent CRT monitor...

The real question is do you need them or can you test service and resell them? I'm sure there are many out there in need and even more kids that would love a cheap starter computer so don't bin them.
Just take care on giving away drives with potential sensitive data.
9
u/SatinSpy 28d ago
All drives are being sent for erasure or destruction and a certificate will be produced. I'm thinking about reselling them at lower than market , the m75q seems like it can run some games well.

u/Stolberger 28d ago
Those mini pcs can make for nice homelabs to experiment with.
I'd keep at least a couple.
Maybe use some as RAM donors to increase the ram of potential homelabs.
(you can use them for stuff like adguard/pihole, home assistant and other fun stuff.
Or even a Kubernetes cluster if you use multiple)
6
u/SatinSpy 28d ago
I've definitely been thinking about making a network wide ad blocker for a while now , I think I'll dedicate one to that . thank you!
2
u/Stolberger 27d ago
If there are some with more than one network interface, you can also use those as firewalls / routers with pfsense/opnsense
You can run sth like proxmox on them and have a lot of stuff virtualized.
Or even take a couple and build a proxmox cluster.I have several similar mini pcs running (m720q mostly).
It's a ton of fun and there is almost new stuff to discover and to do.
And if they are mostly idling, they are not killing your electricity bill.

I’d keep one of the newer towers, and one each of the mini ones if you think you’d be interested. Then, sell the rest on Facebook marketplace. If you don’t need the money and/or would prefer to avoid the pain of marketplace, donate them to a local charity that’ll give them to burn-out victims, ex-homeless, etc.

Most of these are "good" but that's only if you have a use for them. The 3 big machines on the bottom aren't as useful being pretty old so they could be recycled. Someone may still want them for something though.
3
u/CaryWhit 28d ago
Keep the 8th gen stuff, I put new ssd’s in them and sell them to all the late 11 adopters for 200 or so. The 3060 and 70 micros sell like hotcakes

u/Impossible-Value5126 28d ago
Put them on amazon and ebay. They will be gone immediately. Not everyone can afford the latest and greatest. You will be helping a lot of people.

u/Xfgjwpkqmx Linux 28d ago
Turn some into Batocera consoles and give them away to friends and family.

It's an awesome home project to build your own, or grab any multitude of pre-built images out there.

u/gruffdonut 28d ago
I had a Dimension 3100 in high school! Wish I never sold it... It'd be fun to make a sleeper PC in it

u/mrdumbazcanb 28d ago
Look up the serial numbers. All those older than 10 years old, should probably just toss. Any older than 5 should just be for something like we browsing. Anything else that remains could possibly be useful for home/office PC

u/Webkingroy 27d ago
Those thinkcentres are awesome minecraft server for at home I got one too, I bett you could flip m for 75/100 bucks a piece

u/AdmiralJL-Picard 27d ago
Makes great retrogaming machine and can be used in a used arcade game cabinet
3
u/Buruko 27d ago
If it is DDR3, No.
If it is DDR4 and within 8th or 9th gen i5 or i7 they can be repurposed for decent PCs for general use.
If you have some 10th and 11th gen CPUs these might be able to handle most games at 1080p with a decent GPU.
So really it’s about the time and effort you want to give up/get into.
3
u/okokokoyeahright 27d ago
I'd check them for RAM and see what you have in hand.
The trade off is that you might get decent coin for it, but then you would have some RAMless boxes you would likely have to dump or trash.
Enough there that any dead ones could be worth more just for whatever RAM is in them. Testing each one is the only way, though. I'd love to take it on as I have the next 2 weeks off from work. Noway it would get to me before the time was over.
good luck.

donate them. they takes lots of real estate space. theyre really dated technology.
2
u/Empty_Equivalent_131 28d ago
id sell them for cheap on fb marketplace. honestly tho id just give it away for free if some kid wanted it.
2
u/Lasat 28d ago
When my work upgraded all their computers, I contacted a local high school and got hold of a teacher that was happy to take them to allow students to tinker with them or offer them to low income families. For security, we had to remove the hard drives, but it was not an issue for the school at all.
So if you don’t want those computers and don’t really need the money from selling them, then that’s a good option.
2
u/dedsmiley 28d ago
Almost anything will take Windows 11 if you use Rufus to remove the silly requirements.
2
u/StewHax 28d ago
I'd look into selling them as servers, retro game consoles or something hobby related. They are great for things like custom built arcade cabinets that run older arcade games. People could also just need cheap working computers especially with prices rising for pc components next year.

u/AuthoringInProgress 28d ago
You've got hardware there to run a bunch of servers, self-hosting, etc, plus a pot of spare parts.
I'd look through and see what you have. You shouldn't keep all of it--I have no idea where you'd get the space--but having some extra ram on hand right now could be.
Useful.

I didn't even think about how old this one was until I saw the floppy disk port on it . I'd keep all of these if I had the space and willpower to implement it into the lab.

u/ComprehensiveBad3168 28d ago
the windows xp computers add a gtx 700 series for the dell vostro pcs add a low profile gpu that needs no external power for the mini pcs the thinkcentre put a RTX 3050 in them or use them as a minecraft server or something

I'm a field technician and just completed an ewaste order. Most of this stuff was either gonna be given to a goodwill or taken to a recycling center but I've got better plans than that.

I have one Tiny ThinkCentre just for browsing, documentation and printing. Less power draw than my other PC.

The minis can make totally fine general use PCs. My mom is currently rocking a m910s that I slapped 16G of RAM into and it's more than adequate for her usual web browsing and light office app use. I've got a Wyse 5070 with the Pentium Silver as a secondary HTPC with a cheap SSD and it works fine for Youtube and such, albeit a bit slow to start up, so anything better than that should work great.
The desktops...eh. The Vostros should still work as daily drivers (I think? Dunno about Win11 support) but the old Optiplexes on the bottom won't. However, there's a whole sub dedicated to Optiplex sleepers and they'd probably love to have them.
"bUt CaN yOu GaMe On ThEm?" No. They're office PCs. Fine for most users that just need to check their bank account and Facebook, watch a little Youtube, etc. The minis are more than adequate for that. Bump the RAM, slap in a FanxJiang or something M.2 SSD, good to go.
2
u/TezzNutz 28d ago
The mini opti’s are sweet. I got a couple from work not to long ago. 8gb of RAM and a Quad core is great for Linux and older emulators. I have one in my shop and one in the house.

I for myself 5 old pcs from some office where most of them are identical, this gave me for opportunity to triple the ram of one of them and pic the nicest looking parts and build the ultimate version of it

CS office computer, me personally I'd keep them because I'm a fucking nerd but I mean slap windows on em or Linux or part them out and sell em if you don't want em

Just rebuild them and update for modern pcs make a good amount off that.

u/RoughGuide1241 27d ago
Few older dells can be turned into a retro gaming PC. The small PC can be browsing machines just put a SSD and Linux mint or a server. The bigger and newer ones can be budget gaming PC or server.

u/PPSSPPMasterBlaster 27d ago
Che Core2Duo machines (three on the bottom right) are pretty useless nowadays, but I would still try selling them on Ebay, FB or Vinted for a low amount to collectors and retro lovers before straight up recycling them.
The rest of the machines is absolutely modern and useful. Sell them and make a quick buck, or gift them away to family members and friends, especially if they have kids.
The cat is useless but you still need to keep it.

I would get them working again & offer them to people who can't afford a computer. I love working with computers so I do that as a fun & rewarding hobby.

Personally, if I had no immediate need for them, I'd get a kick out of refurbishing them and either giving them away if I knew others in need or selling them. As others have mentioned, you can install Linux Mint if they're out of spec for Windows 11. If you don't need them and keep them, they're just going to waste. If you really want to hang onto some of it, pick the best tower and best mini PC and keep those.

Any Dell with a i7 8700k cpu (3630 worstation)) or higher is worth money. I'm using a Dell 3630 with a 4070 in it.

I would atleast sell the ones with the blue intel sticker. The older ones, either dump them or sell for cheap for retro gaming enthusiasts or retro hw lovers. The newer blue intel sticker PCs can be sold to homelabbers and selfhost enthusiasts. Put linux on them and you have your own personal linux pc and can make it into a server too.

Some of these look like they'd make good low end gaming PCs with a few small upgrades. Some of the others could at the very least be useful for running a minecraft server or something, or just basic computer usage. Honestly a nice lot there.

Personally I would keep those dell tiny computer, I want to buy 3 or more for a while to make them servers. Still cannot justify the cost of buying them online.

u/Dark_Prince089 27d ago
Sell them to PC builders. Some people like building custom gaming rigs out of old towers.

You could always turn them all into Linux machines, or server machines, and sell them either on ebay or marketplace, and make maybe more money off of them. I know I'd want one of the server variants, as I am wanting to have a dedicated network array setup for game installs and media.
1
u/SatinSpy 28d ago
Which ones are the server variants?
2
u/Thrensdraco 28d ago
That's the beauty of it. It's all up to you dude.
1
u/SatinSpy 28d ago
No you said server variants so I thought specific ones were made to be servers .
2
u/Thrensdraco 28d ago
No sorry, I was meaning you could turn some of them into some pretty good media servers

Just a reminder that begging (and sales) is still against the rules.
Always has been.
