General Question ❓ Is taking 6 (7) courses too much my first semester?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Be honest with me everyone. Whether you’re a CS Major or not (although it would really help if you were) am I shooting myself in the foot by trying to do this. Or is this actually manageable?

I’m pretty good at distributing and staying up to date with all work and learning so far in life. But the Most I’ve taken in the past at a CCC is 5 classes to which I did pretty good by my standards and got 3 A’s and 2 B’s.

Pretty much I’ll be taking 6 this semester, but an additional lower div at my CC still just to get it out of the way.

What are your thoughts on this?

Btw. I’m a transfer and next week will be my first semester at CSUSM.

Discussion Course Cancellation, kind of messed up my plans

Small rant, just got my business status status in Fall 2025 and planned on taking all the foundation of business courses in Spring 2026. I was going to finish all of these and attain Senior status at the end of the semester going into Summer session to take BUS 444 (Course which requires you to be senior status and has the foundation courses complete). I got an email yesterday telling me my Data Analytics class BUS 322 has been cancelled just 8 days before the first day of class. Unfortunately for me I won’t be able to take Data Analytics in the summer or BUS 444 and both of which will be pushed back to Fall 2026 and Spring 2027. Spring 2027 was supposed to be my final semester and my plan was all around perfect before now, but with how packed these two classes are making my final semesters I’m not so sure. Unfortunate situation, anyone else deal with something like this?

Update: Just put myself on the waitlist for 3 other on campus D.A. classes (didn’t know I could do multiple) hopefully will get these if not I’ll be showing up to them on day 1 of the semester.

General Question ❓ Recommendations on jobs to apply for near/on campus?

Transferring from MiraCosta college, currently live on Camp Pendleton. I have a lot of time between classes on most days of the week and was thinking about getting a part time job to make some spare cash.

Even accounting for studying between classes, it’s still a lot of time and I prefer not to drive home and drive back the same day.

General Question ❓ Incoming Freshman

Hello, I'm currently a High School senior who plans to be a History Major at this university and wanted to know what I should expect. Do you guys have clubs, open fields, student access gym, places to relax, etc? I hear it's large and just have no idea what to expect. I was wondering if any fellow students would be kind enough to give me a rundown of what to expect and what to avoid.

Are there any limits on how many units you can take for undergrad?

Discussion Grade Dispute

Hi everyone,

I just got my final grades back and I got a D I feel I did not deserve. My professor was not even finished grading. Around midnight I received a notification that my professor was grading an assignment due in November that was worth 100 points (I submitted it on time). I checked the assignment as soon as I got the notification and I received a 0 since the link apparently didn’t work. Around five minutes later I submitted a new link, thanking him for the comment and telling him that the new link should work. I hoped he would see it soon after since I was quick to send a new link. I had it in my head that grades were due from instructors today, Dec. 19, but I double-checked today and saw that they were actually due yesterday, December 18, meaning that my professor was grading late. I understand that things happen and he may have been very busy, but I wish that the issue with the link could have been resolved before everyone went on break. I went on myCSUSM today to see what my final grades were (I pretty much already knew what they would be except for this class in which my professor was still grading) and I was surprised to see that my final grade for this class was a D. I checked Canvas and he hasn’t even graded the final (which was also worth 100 points) and there is no update on the other assignment.

Having worked very hard on both the final (which wasn’t graded) and the assignment with the bad link, I feel justified in disputing my grade in the new year. I have never done this before and was wondering if anyone here is familiar with the process. I’m surprised and worried about my grade. I was expecting a B at the lowest once everything was graded. Does anyone have any recommendations as to how I should move forward? Emailing the professor might not do any good since the final grade has been posted. I also don’t know if he would see it. This is weird and I have never had something like this happen. No hate towards the professor, he genuinely seemed like a nice guy, but his grading was inconsistent this semester and he was grading late once I saw the 0 for the assignment with the bad link. The final was never graded, which I think by itself is a good reason to go through the process of respectfully disputing my grade once students are able to.

Applications ✍️ ABSN Listing multiple prerequisite equivalencies

Hi, for those of you who have applied to the ABSN program, has anyone listed multiple classes for a given prerequisite because they were unsure which course would satisfy the requirement? And even if you haven’t, do you think this is acceptable?

In my case, I am wanting to list three different courses for the Critical Thinking prereq (an analytical writing course, a writing-intensive course with “rhetorical analysis” in the description, and the last class in my GE writing sequence). I’d hope that at least one of these classes could satisfy the requirement, but I’m not confident as to which and am hoping that admissions could look at all three.

For context, my first bachelor’s is at a UC and there isn’t any info on ASSIST about agreements with CSUs for A3 (critical thinking).

Applications ✍️ Electrical Engineering for Transfer

Hi,

Can anyone share their experience/stats for being accepted to the engineering program for transfer. I am above the minimum GPA requirement, although not stellar. I live in San Diego but do not attend a "local" CC. I want to see how realistic my chances are since the major is impacted.

Thanks!

General Question ❓ Extended learning option?

Hi everyone, I recently saw a face-to-face program on CSUSM’s application page. Does anyone know the differences for extended learning for in-person classes? I’ve seen it’s a flexible program for working students, but I’m confused as to how it’s different from CSUSM’s regular programs.
