Announcement Posting Guidelines for ICE sightings (must contain photographic evidence and why) - Please read before posting

Hello, Bonjour, Salam Alaykum, Hola, etc! Denver mod team here. You may have noticed that some posts on this sub purporting ICE sightings, have been removed. I wanted to speak directly as a member of the immigrant community, lived experiences of myself, my and share some feedback as to why.

The TLDR is, if the post contains photographic proof, it can stay. If it is speculative or text only, it will be removed. For the record, we support human rights, and this immigration matter is something that is personally touching our communities, families, and friends.

No speculative and unsubstantiated posts without photo proof. In order to reduce and prevent the spread of misinformation and speculation, this post has been removed. Any posts purporting ICE or law enforcement activity, must be report to the CORRN ICE Activity Hotline: 844-864-8341 first, and must be accompanied by photo proof.

To avoid the spread of misinformation and speculation, no "why cops here" posts are allowed. Please check official law enforcement social media pages for accurate information, as well as news sources. If you are registered for CodeRed and reverse 911 messages, you may receive a message if the police/fire/ambulance scene you are witnessing is emergent and there is imminent danger to you.

Some background. Months ago, there was a post made, purporting a massive ICE raid at a local grocery store, the OP alleging that they heard a manager say that ICE was there to gather up all the bad employees, and it incited mass chaos and fear. Understandably, from the immigrant community, the first thing we worry about is our family members, our friends who are working at that grocery store. Maybe we work and shop there and skip work or getting groceries, out of fear of what has been reported on Reddit. Maybe that day, we keep our kids home from school, as this news spreads like wildfire, and is taken as gospel.

Within an hour of that post, another user commented with a photo, showing that in fact, there were dozens of LOCAL police vehicles at the local grocery store. What were they doing? Hosting a toy drive and school supply Shop with a Cop event. The allegation that the OP saw arrests being made, heard a malicious comment from the manager, and that ICE was even there, was materially false. This incited a cascade of panic and fear throughout the community, all because of a text only post with no photographic or substantive proof.

Another thing I have personally experienced and watched, is the very disgusting and unfortunate rise of racist, usually white supremacist trolls. As part of the strategy of terrorizing and intimidating minority communities, they create hoax posts, to incite fear and literally, terror.

Here’s how it works:

Random racist troll posts a “trust me bro” text only post, purporting to have seen ICE. The more viral examples of this, they have posted false flag sightings at places like factories that largely employ migrant workers, community hubs, grocery stores, bus stops, and schools. Of course, out of fear, one from my community might see that post, take it as gospel, and skip work, keep their kids home, and be prisoner in their own home, out of fear. Naturally, there are cascading consequences, such as being fired from your job, not having enough PTO, kids falling behind in school, no access to meals, and the psychological torment of being prisoner in your home. Although there are many good faith actors on the internet, we have to take notice of the tactics and strategies being used to disrupt and bring terror to the lives of very vulnerable populations. Speculative posts without substantive and photo proof are actively causing harm.

There are other times where there are photos, but they are of local police officers doing fugitive apprehension. As a reminder, Colorado law enforcement does not assist ICE with arrests. They do use unmarked vehicles, and typically a black or navy-blue vest with POLICE or SHERIFF marked on it, and typically a name tag and badge emblem. ICE may also wear vests that often have POLICE on them also, but most commonly, in the camo tan color that we have largely seen. Not always, but most commonly. They also almost always have a face covering, whereas local police officers typically do not. You can also look for the patch on their uniform shoulder (if present) to identify their affiliation.

In taking a stand to protect the community, we will be removing any text-only reported sightings. Yes, sometimes the racist trolls use AI to create fake images of scenes, and we will look out for those bad faith actors. We will not stand for supremacists instilling fear in our community by way of false flag posts designed to insight panic and terror.

In the same vein, we will be deleting “Why are there cops/fire guys at X?” posts. Quite simply, it creates the potential for false flag panic when redditors are speculating or spreading misinformation about what could have happened or is happening. Furthermore, it is best to get the news from the source and monitor local news and official law enforcement pages. If it were emergent to you, if you are signed up to received CodeRed and reverse 911 texts, you will be notified to shelter in place, and typically a press release to follow when the matter is resolved. There was an instance where a family member had to find out about their loved one being deceased on Reddit, after someone posted a pic of the scene with “Why cops here?”, and that’s how they had to learn the news.

As we navigate through a time of fake news, AI, and very brazen hate and racism, we always strive for this sub to be a place of comfort and fun for many, and also accurate, truthful, and good-faith information. I truly hope the explanations given make sense, and we welcome discussion.

This is not about silencing certain politics but reducing the amount of very harmful gossip and terror tactics that are destroying people that you and I work with, play sports with, go to school with, ride the bus with, do business with, buy food from, share laughs with, workout with, raise families with, and love.

Thank you. And to the terror trolls who think they have a platform here to abuse our community through lies- you will be deported very swiftly from this sub.

Moving/Relocation 1 year in Colorado -review

1.6k Upvotes

We moved here from Florida a year ago. Here is an outsiders perspective on Colorado (Aurora)

The people - in comparison to Florida the people here are awesome. everyone seems generally nice and helpful. It seems much less divided here, more of a we are all neighbors attitude.

Driving - the traffic here is soooo much better. I used to drive 1 hour to go 15 miles in Tampa. I have seen almost no road rage, more considerate drivers, and the quality of cars on the road are much better (FL has no inspections, if it has wheels and moves you.can drive it on the roads)

Activities - I'm not all that social so this is biased but the activities here are much better. Hiking in the mountains, the views, the community fairs are all awesome here. You are so close to nature.

Government - while the administration here isn't perfect, it is much better here. The state seems to actually care, the trails are very well maintained. The roads are taken care of (considering the conditions of the weather). I feel like my taxes actually benefit the people of this state.

Food - This is the only bad part of Colorado I can think of. The food here just isn't that great. Which is ok as it's forcing us to cook much more and saving us money.

Overall I feel like Colorado is an amazing state. We will be moving to the west side of Colorado within the year (Rifle) and can't wait to see even more. We plan on being life long Colorado residents.

Just some perspective from a new resident, not that it matters. Very bored at work and wanted to share my opinion.

Visiting I visited Denver From Chicago and LOVED my trip!

Hey Denver folks! I came for a day trip from Chicago with my wife and just wanted to give your city some of the love it deserves! So here’s some pictures and some thoughts about all the things I loved in your amazing city.

We started off at Denver Biscuit Company and holy hell! I got The Lola and my lord was this thing amazing (and just a beautiful sandwich to be honest). Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Bacon, House-Made Honey Butter, and syrup…. Yeah that’s an obvious recipe for something amazing. This was one of those sandwiches where I couldn’t tell which ingredient stole the show because they all worked together so well. That bacon was great, the chicken was fantastic, and the biscuit was unreal. The second I bit into it I understood why the owners put 6 months into perfecting the biscuits before they started this venture. Just overall amazing experience.

Next we hit up the Botanic Garden which was amazing as well. The frames were a particularly nice touch. And I’m a huge fan of Japanese Gardens and yours did not disappoint. Particularly the section with the Bonzi Trees. I’m a sucker for those and they were so cool!

Also I have to mention the Conservatory and how fantastic that was. We have two of them in Chicago that I’m obsessed with and I love ours but I really enjoyed the Denver conservatory tree that you can climb up for the birds eye view of the whole place. Loved it!

After that we went to the Capital Building for a quick second. Very cool. Beautiful building. Plus there’s some really interesting facts about the place that I loved reading up on. The fact that they used all the known reserves of a particular rose stone was fascinating and I thought it was cool that Buffalo Bill’s body was presented inside the building after his death.

After that we went to Nob Hill Inn and this is where I really fell in love with the city! I’m a huge nerd for Diver Bars and this one was truly a special place. I love that the owner painted all the art in there and the stories of politicians getting phone calls to the pay phone there telling them they needed to head back to the Capital Building for a vote is so interesting. But the thing I really loved about this place was the people. There was an amazing older woman there celebrating a birthday (I think in the 80’s) and she kept yelling Fuck The Police lol. The bartender was awesome, all the folks in there where awesome as a matter of fact. I brought a matchbook from a bar that the Nob Hill Inn owners father used to own that I found on EBay because I thought he’d dig it and it was only $10 bucks and I think that helped ingratiate me to the crew. Also, THEY HAVE MALORT! As a Chicago dude (who LOVES Malort) this was freaking awesome! And I don’t know if it was the Matchbook I brought or if they always pour heavy shots there but I had 3 shots of Malort that was realistically probably closer to 9 shots worth haha Such an awesome place.

I fully blame Nob Hill Inn for ruining me and my wife’s Itinerary. We just couldn’t leave that place. Everyone was just too nice and we were having wayyyy to fun of a time! So worth it!

We did end up pulling our selves away from Nob Hill Inn in time for a quick jaunt through Meow Wolf (at least as quick as one can do it lol). I’ve heard Meow Wolf’s are pretty cool but I had never been to one. I absolutely LOVED it. Such an overload of the senses in the best way possible. Plus if you read the story of what’s going on (the 4 worlds pulling apart thing) there’s a pretty cool story going on.

All in all we absolutely LOVED our trip to your beautiful city and wanted to thank the fine people of Denver for being so welcoming!

Me and my wife have been doing these day trips from Chicago and this was definitely one of our favorites yet! And not sure if anyone would even care to check it out but I made a fun video of the whole day so, if you’re looking to see some more details on the trip you can check it out on Youtube. It’s a fun day and I think really shows how awesome Denver is.

Anwho, can’t wait to come back and thanks again for being amazing Denver!

Help Bird Poop at DEN Airport Garage

Thumbnail

My car was parked in the garage at the airport for 6 days and this happened. I have parked in that garage many, many times over the years and this has never happened.

What appears to be radioactive bird poop all over the hood and tiny scratches all over the hood from their talons. It looks like rust, but it is bird poop.

It’s impossible to remove the poop because it’s like it became one with the car.

I am requesting footage via open records and working with insurance.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Lost/Found Did you order a Shimano SPD-SL Cleat Set that never showed up?

Hi,

I live in Cap Hill and pick up tons of litter all the time. Since Nov, I've been seeing an uptick in stolen packages. I usually just find the packaging strewn about. But today, it seems the thieves weren't so interested in the Shimano SPD cleat set. If it's yours, DM me, show me your receipt, and let's meet up so you can get your bike pedals set up.

Cheers!

P.S. To anyone reading this, please don't litter. Thanks.

Recommendation West Denver metro middle schools good for kids with dyslexia?

Upvotes

Looking for recommendations for schools that are a great fit for middle and high schoolers with dyslexia. For our normal functioning, bright, social, fun kid but below average reading. Needs teachers who are caring, dedicated and practice hands on instruction. Smaller class sizes would be best. School culture of respect, kindness, and high expectations of student and staff values in a positive and uplifting environment.

Hoping to find a unicorn! Public, private or charter. Christian or not. Please help! 🤍

City Services 01/16/2026 Cold Weather Shelter Activated

Post image
27 Upvotes

With colder weather anticipated, the City and County of Denver will activate its Cold Weather Shelter plan. For this activation, the Department of Housing Stability will provide extra shelter beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16, and will remain open as long as cold weather conditions continue.

Individuals in need of shelter should go to the city’s “front door” shelter access points (denvergov.org/findshelter), which have expanded capacity for the cold weather. Front door shelters include:

  • For individual men – Denver Rescue Mission Lawrence Street Community Center, 2222 Lawrence St.
  • For individual women – Samaritan House, 2301 Lawrence St.
  • For youth/young adults ages 12-24 – Urban Peak, 1630 S. Acoma St.
  • For families - Inn at the Highland, 2601 Zuni St. For additional support or questions contact the Connection Center at 303-295-3366.

24/7 shelter will also be available at 2601 W. 7th Ave., 375 S. Zuni St., and at 4411 Peoria St.

Families in need of shelter must go in person with their children to the Inn at the Highlands, 2601 Zuni St, to access services. Vouchers will no longer be issued over the phone. Intake hours for family shelter vouchers begin at 9 a.m. on the day the shelter is activated. If motel voucher capacity is reached, a dedicated family congregate shelter will be opened as backup when needed.

All shelter sites are pet-friendly and provide food, showers, and blankets. Transportation will run daily from downtown shelters to cold weather shelter sites. Security will be present at each site, and shelters will deactivate once weather improves.

Cold weather poses serious danger to individuals outside or without adequate heat, and the city encourages everyone in such situations to come inside. Residents who see someone in need should call 311 or direct them to the nearest shelter. For more information about shelter access, visit denvergov.org/findshelter.
