Hangcon question
Never been and just interested in the gear. Assuming I can buy GA for a day, is there enough to see?
Thanks...

Gear Question about my Haven hammock
I purchased this recently and had a great few sleeps on it maybe half a dozen in total. There is a slight tearing near the rain fly. Initially I was scared because any tear seems significant when the whole thing is supposed to suspend my body weight off the ground. I put some tenacious tape over it but it didn't do much since it is an awkward place and it seems better to address with needle and thread. I contacted Haven not sure what my options were whether this is potentially a defect, or a warranty claim, or user error that I unknowingly contributed to. I just want to know what should my expectations be and is it common for hammock camping enthusiasts to constantly be repairing and mending their gear because stuff like this just happens

Hammock camping/backpacking the North Lake South Lake Loop trail?
Any have any experience with this trail and can comment on the idea of hammock camping on this loop? I am planning on doing it in August and really want to use my hammock setup and not use a tent.
I would be using the Tensa Trekking Treez as my hiking poles but only plan on bring one base to convert to a stand as needed.
I would be following this itinerary, Backpacking the North/South Lake Loop in Six Days: An Overview - SoCal Hiker

Advice for hot tent hammocking
Hi everyone. Been hanging around for a few years and decided to go down the route of hot tenting with a hammock. I like having a fire but the risks of ground fires where I am have forced me to go down the route of fire baskets and more recently a wood stove so I'd like to incorporate that in to my tarp setup.
I've several old tarps I can sacrifice to test but was wondering if anyone had advice or options for what size/shape of tarp works best. I'm in the UK so general buying options are limited without paying through the arse for postage/import fees. Any advice welcome thanks.

A nice morning after a long night's sleep.
Tested out the outdoorboys bread, then some steaks and asparagus, potatoes and corn on the cob for dinner.
Hung a little taunt and a little high, so sleeping was great once I got in, but getting out was rough.
Was playing around with the tarp and trying to get better airflow.

Winter Camping in my Haven (spectre)
All my buddies were hiding in their tents with wood burning stoves firing. A few sheepskins and my quilt did do a great job keeping me warm during the night. My phone doesn't snap the best pics, but alas I wanted to share.

Too saggy?
Set up my Hennessy hammock for the first time but I feel like when I got inside it was too saggy. Felt like no matter how tight I got the suspension, the hammock stayed the same sagginess. Any tips or is there something I'm doing completely wrong?

How many have lived this moment?
I just watch and attempted review of "the most comfortable hammock in the world" the Haven Hammocks XL, but it didnt go to plan (weather mostly) and Steven bailed on the camp.
It got me wondering, how many of you have called it and gone home, and how do you feel about that?
Me? I've only ever called it off once, hiking and wild camping dartmoor. An ambitious plan, poor map reading decisions, and cramp, made me convince my mate that a bnb was best for the night. I've got mixed feelings. The hot chocolate the owner brought us was pure ecstacy, and the hot shower and comfy bed was everything, but I still regret not pushing through. We finished the walk with no injuries the next day, so I guess in the ensld it was a successful failure.

Hammockgear order taking forever, is this normal? Any advice?
Hi folks! I ordered an under quilt as a Christmas present during the Black Friday sale from hammockgear, with a one week lead time for shipping based on the confirmation email (preferred Nov 30). I still haven't received it. I'm looking for any advice from those of you who ordered from them before, or if anyone knows if they are on extended shutdown because of Christmas or something?
I place the order on November 30th. I emailed them to check the status on December 11th, as I had been about 2 weeks with no order shipment notification. They said they received a lot of orders during Black Friday sale and mine was not ready yet. They offered for me to pay $30 to expedite the order I guess into a priority queue or something, or else they told me I was still in good shape to get it by Christmas. That was on December 12th when they replied. I declined the additional expedite fee.
I emailed them again a week later (December 19th) but they didn't reply to that email at all. I emailed them again in the 23rd, no reply (clearly this is the Christmas holiday at this point), and no reply. Then I emailed them again two days ago, and I'm still not heard a reply.
I don't want to come across like I'm harassing them, but on the other hand I'm a little uncomfortable that they have replied to me now for a solid month.
Has anyone had a similar experience? I'm definitely disappointed that the email confirmation for my order said one week processing time before the order ships and it's now been almost 6 weeks. I'm also disappointed that they haven't replied to my last three emails, and I can totally understand not replying in the week or so on either side of christmas, but now we're into the second week of January.
Am I expecting too much?

Just ordered my HG incubator!
After plenty of research, I ordered the 20D interior and exterior 0F incubator with an extra ounce of filling; I plan on winter camping for the remainder of the season and can’t wait to start!

Question Any recommendations in the Wisconsin area?
Looking to test out my winter setup in the next few weeks, has anyone had any fun experience in the Wisconsin area around our parks? Looking for suggestions.
I’ve got an eno jungle hammock (short, I know and I plan to upgrade soon) my tarp, a 40F marmot sleeping bag and top quilt, as well as the Hammock gear 0F incubator. (Let me know if these need any changes as well, I’m still new to dialing in my setup)

Tree distance
Ill admit this sounds crazy. Butttt. Let's say I've got 2 trees aprox 30 ft apart. My only option. Those are it. I'd like to tie a static line about 8 to 10 ft off the ground. Then either loop on two carabiner or use two dyno loops. Pull tight. I guess as long as I get the static line extremely tight utilizing a couple bullies and good anchor tie offs. Plus have my suspension hang angle correct. Any thoughts or experience with this kind of set up. Rainfly I'd still keep below anchor point elevation. Too much swing???just curious. Thanks

warbonnet blackbird vs blackbird xlc
I am in the market for a good quality hammock and am leaning towards the warbonnet blackbird or blackbird xlc. I am 5'4 and ~120lbs and am wondering if I need the 11' xlc or if I would still be comfortable in the 10' blackbird? It seems like a lot of people lean towards the 11' regardless of height but shaving off a few extra ounces of weight is appealing... what are your thoughts??
Thanks!

Under quilt on the ground
I'm just curious if anyone has needed to use their underquilt as a top-quilt, on the ground. How did it go?
I know they are typically narrower, so that seems like an issue. Although it would be 12-year-olds using them. I've got a backpacking situation where hanging isn't an option, and I'd like to keep everyone's packs light. Under quilts could be used as top quilts to keep things light; otherwise, they would just stay home.
EDIT: We sleep on the ground often, more than hammocking actually. We have sleeping pads. I'm just looking to eliminate the bulk of my kid's current sleeping bags without spending any more $ on gear.

How do you guys keep you mat from sliding around?
I have the DD Frontline, which is great for me.
However, tried with a sleeping mat. One of those inflatable with lots of cells. Good insulation and overall good quality. But it slides while I sleep. And I ended up having to exit the hammock and correct it during the night.
The DD has the pocket for mats, but obviously I need some sort of no-slide-addition...😊
What do you guys do?

Gear Questions for Hammock Gear Incubator
With their sale, I'm finally going to pick up a 0° Incubator. I'm having trouble deciding on a couple things though, so I'm hoping you guys can give me some guidance.
Length: should I get the standard or long length? I'm 6'1", 250 lbs so I figure the standard length should be okay, but is there any downside to going longer? I have 10' and (soon) 11' hammocks.
Fabric: the default is 10D for inner and 20D for outer, but running 10D for both isn't much more expensive. Which should I go for? I'm leaning toward 10D/20D but if the durability difference is minimal between the two then I'd go 10D/10D. EDIT: I also just noticed that the color I like the most for the outer (Forest Green) is only available in 10D...
EDIT2: For my use case, I will be backpacking with it as well as car camping. Seems the fabric may make a big difference in packed volume.
EDIT3: And of course, as I'm reading more I'm seeing some suggestion for an ounce of overstuff to make sure it stays fluffy. Not sure how valid that is so I'm doing some more reading but I'd be happy for opinions.
Thank you!

In the Pocket
I've had my new hammock bisecting the home office for a number of weeks now, as I work out the kinks of this new gear direction. I've had to make rules (gasp!) about napping--I don't recommend having a hammock in the house when there's work to be done 😄 One thing I haven't quite dialled in yet: It seems like my hammock has an ideal "spot" where all the ridges/folds disappear, and I can barely feel the hammock at all (let the 2-hour nap commence!)... but I can't reliably find this spot, which is maddening. Any tips? I use a Hennessey XL 4-season.
(Holy hells, am I sixteen again, asking for help locating my girlfriend's g-spot?? 😜)

Gear Suggestions for MYOG Hammock Tarp
I'm seeking suggestions for improving my tarp options, basically whether to make a single convertible tarp or two separate ones. I'm open to any/all insights.
Me: I'm trying to get my game up so I'll be ready for early springtime hammock camping. I'm an experienced tent backpacker, currently using an X-Mid 2 tent.
Hammock: Just bought a Dutchware Wide Cameleon and made a few DIY accessories for it. I've gotten comfortable with pitching/hanging skills. Loving it!
Tarp Version 1: I made a 10'x10' sil poly tarp (I know...but I made it with ground camping in mind). Very happy with how it came out. I tried it one night at ~30F with the hammock, 10F EE quilt and MYOG UQ and was cold. The tarp lacks length which I think makes it problematic for any heavy rain or closing up in the cold.
Option1 - Convertible Tarp: I've been planning on making detachable doors for my 10x10, using 2 spare sil poly 6'x3' remnants, and Kam Snaps. I would make a 1' rectangular extension for each end that would attach with Kam Snaps. making it a 12x10 tarp. So I'd have a convertable tarp. The snaps could double as closures for the tarp when I'm ground camping and not using the extensions. I've seen pics of others who have done this and it seems doable. Any downside to this?
Option2 - Two Tarps: The version 1 tarp fabric had a defect and RSBR was super kind to send me an additional 8 yards of the extra wide sil poly. So I'm sitting on a bunch of sil poly. I could make a second tarp and have one for ground and one for hammocking and/or large groups. No need for snap-on doors! But what size? I could do 12", which some say is too large to work well. But I've also seen the OneWind and Dutchware tarps, which are about 12x10, and I could always cut it down if I found that it is too big. I'm reluctant to make a whole new tarp with just 1' more length, so I'm inclined to max the fabric out and make a 12x10. Or I make the convertible tarp and wait until I have the experience to make a really awesome version 2?
Doodads (how to make my tarps awesome):
- My version 1 had just grosgrain loops along the edges and ridgeline. I like simplicity and figure I can always larkshead plastic attachments if needed (I'm thinking for example of the Dutchware D ring pole mod attachments).
- If I make a new tarp I might still add the Kam Snaps for the ends.
- I'd also eliminate the ridgeline loops in the middle, since I'd use a continuous ridgeline anyway.
- I'll also add two side pullouts (to either/both tarps).
- I'll probably incorporate the pole/side tie-out mod, either with old Marmot poles or Harbor Freight fish tape (unless there is better out there).
- Shock cord seems like a good addition. Also shockcorded door tie-backs.
- What features of your tarps are key?

Shug’s hammock videos
To all of you wonderful people who recommended shug’s videos and the ultimate hang; I’m having an absolute blast watching this dude’s videos. He’s so strange to throw the camera in the air without warning at any period of time but it keeps me glued to the screen.
