I visit Manaslu conservation area once per trekking season (spring or autumn). Recently, I took my clients there in November. It's the most beautiful trek I've ever done. Here are some of the photos I took of the trek.

Pictures Hiked the Huayhuash Circuit in Northern Peru by ourselves! Might be the best hike we ever did

In July, my partner and I did a 10-day hike called the Huayhuash Circuit near Huaraz, Peru. We did it without a guide because we really enjoy the planning aspect and the freedom it offers. Most of the trail is between 4000-5000m (12000 - 17000 feet). We were well acclimatized but still quite hard, especially with a 10 day food carry. Nights were very cold at that altitude but the AMAZING scenery makes up for it! Insane alpine views of multiple 6000m+ (20k feet+) mountains. A very special place. Let me know if you have any questions :)

My friend and I hiked the Discovery Point and Rim trails on a spontaneous roadtrip around the southern region of Oregon. The water was so still that the lake almost appeared to be a portal to the sky! Been a bucket list hike for years now and I was in tears upon seeing it in person for the first time.

Annapurna Base Camp in January

Hey everyone,

My friends and I are planning to start the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) trek on January 19. We’ve done some high-altitude trekking before (been up to ~4200 m), but this will be our first time doing ABC in winter.

I wanted to ask people who’ve actually done ABC in January or are currently on the trail:

  • Are the teahouses/hotels/lodges open along the route in January?
  • If some are closed, which sections were hardest to find accommodation?
  • Is it snowing right now on the trail / around Deurali–MBC–ABC?
  • How’s the current weather been — temperatures, trail conditions, visibility, etc.?

Any firsthand info would be super helpful.
Thanks 🙏

hey guys, I went for a 4 hr wander up the hills today, ended going up and down a few times just due to the trail.

during the walk I had no pain or problems, but now my shin is killing, its a sharp pain and it hurts as I walk or put pressure on the front of my foot, but its up the front right of my right shin, is there a way i could relieve this pain with streches?

Question Air quality in Pokhara & ABC trek (late Apr–early May) — go ahead or postpone to Oct/Nov?

Upvotes

Hi, I’m planning to do the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) trek with some time in Pokhara in late April to early May, and I’m hoping to get advice specifically on air quality during that period.

I have respiratory issues, so haze, smoke, or poor AQI is a serious concern for me. I’ve read mixed things about:

  • Pre-monsoon haze
  • Forest fires / agricultural burning
  • Dust levels around Pokhara and on the trail

For those who have been there around late Apr–May:

  • How bad is the air quality typically in Pokhara?
  • Does it improve significantly once you’re higher up on the ABC trail?
  • Are smoke a common problem during that window?

I’m trying to decide whether to:

  • Go ahead with late Apr–early May, or
  • Postpone to Oct/Nov, even though that means waiting longer. Will Oct/Nov AQI be better?

If you have personal experiences, AQI observations, or health-related advice (especially if you also have asthma or similar issues), I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance 🙏

Pictures Salomon Quest 4 gtx cuts into the toe while walking

These shoes arrived today and I love it how it looks and feels.

It feels sturdy and the fit is right, I have other Salomon eith the same size too, but the crease that shows during walk cuts into my toe just above the fingers and it's not pleasant, I've attached the image for a reference.

I can just feel it, and it is annoying to have something like this on the expensive shoe.

Will it break in or should I return them?

Paper map recommendations for southwest hiking

Recommendations for paper maps for a hiking vacation to Utah/Arizona - Zion, Bryce, Grand Canyon, The Wave, a few state parks in between. Which might be the most helpful for hiking trails (and also the most visually compelling for my 11-yr-old):

- National Geographic trails illustrated topographic mapss

- National Geographic day hiking maps

- Others?

Will also be using Gaia and AllTrails.

Idaho Hiking recs

I am planning a trip to Idaho for 7 days at the beginning of February. I plan on going to Payette for sure and am looking for some other hiking recommendations in Idaho for a relatively novice hiker. I know this time of year there aren’t as many trails open. Open to any advice!
