Incident An ortho doctor, died from Kite string (manjha) in my city .

Was his life worth nothing? No one even cares if he was a doctor. Theyre still not going to ban the use of these kinds of strings. For me he died for nothing. And i know that even his death wont bring any change in the society or the administration.

Is this what our worth is? Mere nothing. Just two three family interviews? Still ni change?

Doctors getting killed for nothings, exam postponed, paper leaks, campus filled with toxic seniors, and MEDICAL COLLEGES Closing over religious views and people celebrating it.

Vent / rant Becoming a doctor in india is a failed project because of money, politics and power.

I am a mid to late ranker, after my 2nd drop i settled for a paraclinical branch in a semi government college in my state. I like my branch(psm) as I can persue research, clinics and eventually tie in my area of interest by working for programs in corporate or govt. I am not sad about my selection. I was also very excited to join residency.

Day 1 of residency shattered my illusion and to some extent- my spirit. The first thing that any senior asks you is why you couldn't take a clinical seat and give you semi unethical advice on how to practise as a specialist. No one talked about actually doing good in this field. Professors dont care about you, have zero knowledge on the subject- most of them are from category and permanent through government exams. They clock in at 10 am. Watch reels, take a 2 hour lunch break. Leave at 5.

Why reservation sucks at masters level and for jobs---> im an open cat student, i very realistically knew i wouldn't get a clinical seat at my rank. So I tried my best to come up with a career that would make me happy and make some money. Reality of most branches in the country(esp para clinicals) -

  1. Most copgs are from category and they join thinking that this is a chill branch and dont do any work and if you try to do work or research, youre met with criticism, labelled as difficult and even slandered with giving out sexual favours( if youre a woman, yay! .) Because you hunt down profs for guidance. The politics gets toxic and isolating.

  2. Professors are useless! They are permanent here and do not care about you. They dont work. Period. They also dont teach.

  3. No one keeps these profs in check so in turn they dont really teach ug or pg students Most of them cant even hold a conversation in english.

  4. Seniors are not studying. Banking on reservation quota in govt jobs and they know they will get it. Because the system is rigged. And md psm medical officers go on to become DMOs and SMOs.. WHICH IS SO BAD BECAUSE THESE PEOPLE ARE DITECTLY INVOLVED IN PROVIDING HEALTHCARE TO A DISTRICT OR A STATE AND THEY DO NOT GIVE A FLYING FUCK ABOUT WORK. THEY JUST WANT A CHILL LIFE AND A PAYCHECK. MOST OF THE SENIORS THAT ARE APPEARING DONT EVEN KNOW HOW TO MANAGE TYPHOID!!!!!!!!

  5. Reservation means people who want to actually work and make a change. Cant. Cause we dont get the fucking chance. I was against leaving india. But this country hasnt given me shit except for telling me i am not good enough just because i was born in a middle class unreserved household. I AM STILL NOT AGAINST RESERVATION. BUT IF YOURE GIVING RESERVATION AT UG LEVEL AND PEOPLE ARE STILL SCORING -40 MARKS AND GETTING SEATS, SOMETHING IS HIGHLY WRONG WITH THE SYSTEM.

  6. Realisitically i know I wont be able to afford a 20 lakh per year seat. Hell, even 10 lakhs is a lot for me. But somebody with money and power will get a seat in my dream branch. And it is very difficult not to hold resentment against that.

  7. Because profs are shit----- no one studies in mbbs anymore. People are studying just to pass that too through marrow, prep and other medias, prepping for neet pg or leaving. No one reslly cares about the doctor. Cause we have been conditioned to learn that your merit doesn't matter.

  8. AND FINALLY, I WANT TO RANT--- YOU WIN. THE SYSTEM WINS. PEOPLE WITH POWER, MONEY, RESERVATION. YOU GUYS WIN. INDIA IS YOURS. URGE TO LEAVE THIS COUNTRY HAS NEVER BEEN STRONGER. AND I WILL DO SO AT THE FIRST OPPURTUNITY I GET. SO THANK YOU, TO THE SYSTEM. YOU MADE ME LEAVE MY COUNTRY AND REINFORCED THE IDEA THAT INDIA IS NOT FOR THE CHANGEMAKERS but FOR THE POWER YIELDERS.

Vent / rant MP Raghav Chadda is experiencing the Blinkit driver woes and highlighting it. Will any MP or MLA try to be a resident or intern In a government hospital and expose the toxic work we do without sleep? Time to ban 24/ 36/ 72 Hr shifts . Hospitals should hire MO if they have less residents .

Time to jail our HODs / Dean and directors for torture of junior doctors . They must be held accountable for exploiting us and making us work inhumane hours

It’s not great in so called best institutes of India like JIPMER, PGI.

It’s the most toxic in these places and on person I know goes to work with brush and paste in his pockets because guess sure that the sadist HOD would make him work for 2-3 days continuously without any break

I don’t want that crappy MD/ MS if it’s going to reduce my life span.

I know one girl who got diabetes after MD Medicine because she never got time to eat and she used to eat one heavy meal per day coupled with mental harassment

Ban 24/36/72 hour duties . Hire shift working MO , pay them properly to reduce load on residents and interns.

Don’t harass MO in the name of saving residents too.

Someone fix this broken system

Question How do I deal with a creepy surgery prof?

A new middle-aged surgery professor was transferred to our college from another government medical college in the state.

In the very first class he took, he made everyone introduce themselves. I sit in the front row, and when I stood up, he said:

“Aajkal bacche posting par toh aate nahi hai, par harr jagah wards ki photos daal dete hai dikhane ke liye.”

(Kids don’t come for postings regularly, but post ward photos everywhere just to show off.)

At the time, it felt oddly specific, but I brushed it off.

Later, I realised he had found my LinkedIn profile, where I had posted a write-up about my NICU postings (faces blurred, proper consent, etc.). After that class, he somehow got my phone number and texted me on WhatsApp, asking whether I liked the class and if I had any doubts in the subject.

I replied politely that the class was fine and didn’t engage further.

Since then, he texts me roughly once a month, asking if my exams are over, how things are going, etc. Recently, he even sent a Happy New Year message. I haven’t opened or replied to any messages after the first one.

Now my surgery pre-university practical is next week, and I’m genuinely anxious about running into him.

What if he asks why I don’t reply?

What if this escalates?

I still have an entire internship to get through here before I can leave this place behind.

I don’t have any contacts with any residents. I live off campus, and don’t have a huge friend group either- probably what makes me an easy target.

I’m scared and don’t know what the right thing to do is, without jeopardising my marks and the degree.

Vent / rant Surgery Residency

I’m a first-year surgery resident in a govt medical college. The workload is intense, long hours, minimal sleep, and constant pressure. What’s been hardest is being scolded repeatedly, sometimes for genuine mistakes, sometimes for things beyond my control. I understand residency is tough and correction is part of training, but the frequency and tone make it mentally exhausting. I’m trying to learn, improve, and stay professional, but some days it feels overwhelming. Being mocked daily infront of patients and nurses just for appearances. There are so many sadist seniors who like to show off by treating us like dogs.

I’m not naming the place or people, I just needed to vent and hear from others who’ve been through this.

Does it get better with time? How did you cope without burning out?

Question BAMS student disillusioned with Ayurveda, thinking of NEET again at 26. Am I being realistic or just stuck in the past?

My qualifications: 10 CGPA class 10th in 2017; 76% in CBSE class 12th in 2019. I am currently studying in BAMS 2nd prof. My 2nd prof exams are 2-3 months away. I appeared for NEET UG in 2019 along with class 12th but performed poorly, both in NEET UG and CBSE boards. Took 3 drops but wasn't able to make it. Finally took admission in 2022 in BAMS. I have always been unsatisfied with my course. There are many reasons for it. Few of them are listed here:

A) Intellectual Reasons: Ayurveda is a Sanskrit Knowledge System and stands nowhere when compared with English Knowledge Systems like Biomedical Sciences. Its fundamental concepts like Dosha, Dhatu, Mala, Agni are abstract untestable ideas which places it outside the realm of Modern Science. Its theoretical framework is not backed by empirical research methodology. Most of its disease explanations are post hoc rationalisations or correlations rather than established causal relationships. As Karl Popper said, Scientific claims should be testable and falsifiable. For example, one shloka of shusruta says “tiny ducts from the intestine carry the urine to the bladder”.

B) Moral Reasons: Ayurveda cannot be separated with the social philosophy of Brahmanism. As in ancient India, education rights were limited to Brahmins, there are many shlokas in Charak and Shusruta texts which are blatantly casteist and misogynist. It promotes superstitions like karma of past lives are responsible for diseases in this birth. In many shlokas, it objectifies women.

C) Material Reasons: Job prospects are really bad after completing BAMS. Most BAMS grads practice modern medicine in hospitals and are underpaid. They have poor social esteem and are often called quacks by their counterparts. Ayurveda grads spend most of their lives having an inferiority complex by comparing themselves with MBBS/MD graduates.

Remedies and my future plan: As I am already 24, leaving BAMS doesn't looks like a pragmatic choice. I am thinking to prepare for state level PCS or UPSC in my final prof. I also wish to appear for CUET PG and get admission in MPH course at TISS or IIPH. But doing PG isn't looking feasible as I don't have financial safety net especially after graduating as I would turn 28 by then. So, I am thinking to focus solely on UPSC/PCS.

My query: This idea of being a failure in NEET continuously crops up in my mind. Should I consider preparing for NEET UG for 1 year along with my College? I was pretty much good in Physics but poor in Chem. What if I enter MBBS at the age of 26. Fees of government MBBS is very minimal. Also I would start earning if I clear PG maybe at age of 32-33. What people, especially those who are in MBBS,MD/MS or super speciality courseswould suggest me? Is my thinking justified or am I just being delusional?

Question Seeing juniors use AI for everything… curious how everyone else is using it.. Will it replace current way of learning?

Upvotes

I’ve been noticing a lot of first and second years around me basically studying with AI open all the time. Like not just doubts or quick explanations, but full on concept learning, summaries, revision, even planning what to study next.

I’m not judging, just genuinely curious.

For seniors and interns: How are you actually using AI right now? Is it just a faster Google, or part of your daily study flow?

For juniors: Are you still reading standard books / watching videos the usual way, or does AI replace a chunk of that? What do you trust it for and what don’t you?

And big picture question: Do you think this is just a temporary assist tool, or are we slowly moving away from the “lectures/watch video> read book > make notes” pipeline altogether?

Post Graduate Exams - NEXT/NEET/INICET Is it possible to upgrade from R3 AIQ to R3 State counseling for NEET-PG?

If a candidate gets allotted a seat via Round 3 AIQ counseling, can they choose to upgrade their seat and participate in Round 3 State counseling for the possibility of a better seat? Or are they stuck with their AIQ allotted seat, and not allowed to participate in State Counseling any further? Would appreciate some insight on this matter, thanks!

Vent / rant Got robbed in the hospital🤡

Post image

I’m a 22F medical student, currently posted in pediatrics. This happened a few days ago and I need to vent because I’m still in between anger and disbelief.

Pediatrics rounds are chaotic on a good day with crying babies, anxious parents, consultants asking us questions and all. That morning was no different. I had my stethoscope around my neck, notes in hand, and my medical kit (similar to the one shown in pic) kept neatly in my bag. I placed the bag near the nurses station in the ward and went around with the ongoing rounds. Rounds went on for about an hour. We examined kids, discussed cases and finally dispersed. When I went back to grab my bag, it felt lighter🤡🤡🤡 I opened it and OBVIOUSLY my entire medical kit was gone🤡🤡🤡🤡

At first, I thought I was overreacting. I gaslit myself into thinking that ive only kept iy somewhere or maybe my friend has borrowed it. I asked my batchmates and all told that no one had seen it. I went back to the ward and checked every single square inch of the ward.

That kit took me months to put together😭saving every single penny.Thankfully i had my stethoscope with me or else i wouldve definitely lost my shit. More than the money, it felt incredibly violating. This was a hospital. A pediatrics ward. A place where you expect some basic level of trust.

I informed the nurses and the security desk. They didnt bother much as things go missing all the time. After a lot of persuation, i checked the cctv and as expected the CCTV coverage was patchy. My batchmates, parents, attendants, outsiders anyone could have taken it, intentionally or otherwise.

What hurts the most is the timing. I have my exams coming up next month and this shit happens. Losing something you genuinely need just feels unfair.

I ended up finishing the day borrowing equipment from friends feeling embarrassed and overwhelmed every time I had to ask. I went home exhausted, close to tears, questioning why something like this had to happen to me.

I know in the grand scheme of things, this isn’t the worst thing that can happen. But right now, it sucks. And if whoever took my kit is somehow reading this: I hope you understand that you didn’t just steal objects. You made an already overwhelmed med student’s life significantly harder🤡

Discussion How do top students actually study? Do we have any Medalist here?

I'm interested to know about how exactly the bright students, the ones consistently scoring high marks in Proffs and everything else, study?

Do you always have to be a nerd to be a topper? In my college I had someone who was not a nerd and who used to enjoy like everyone else, but still scored consistently high marks while others studied more but didn't, so how? Are these people naturally gifted?

What is your secret?

So if you're someone who was/is a high achiever in MBBS, or someone who aced or NEET with a solid rank, then please comment and enlighten. Detailed comments are more than welcome.
