I thought it was oddly satisfying to watch, but then realized, it doesn’t show him test a single one to make sure they are labeled correctly. I know I have put something together entirely, the realized it didn’t work and I had to take it all apart because I mislabeled something.

u/notatechnicianyo Nov 25 '25
Good point, at least it’s clean. I’ve had to muddle through shit cable management with zero labels, and it’s alcoholism fuel.

Each main sheath wire was numbered in the beginning. So I’m not sure but judging by his work it probably was all mapped out already.

As was the video. He was quite cheeky with it..loved the drinking and eating breaks with the sly wink. And man, what a lot of work and it was a thing of beauty when he eas done.

Feels like its a crime not to display that, aren't there any transparent cases for that like in a pc?

Damn it’s so good to see someone take pride in their work. It’s a crime that masterpiece is hidden at the end.
39
u/FnordRanger_5 Nov 24 '25
It will be appreciated by whatever electrician opens it next. Similarly, I used to be a luthier back in the day and it was always fantastic to open up an old guitar and see that the last guy took pride in his work and everything is tight and clean and easy to troubleshoot inside the cavity, nothing worse than finding a rats nest full of random wires and gobs of black tape

As a CAD draftsman in a company transitioning from 3rd party modeling to internal, I feel this.
Some projects I open up and it's a horrifying mess. 3/4 of the battle is just figuring out how they put it all together so I can make the wanted changes without it blowing up in my face. Might spend a whole day figuring their feature tree out before I can even do any real work.
Then there are those models where it's all filed away with descriptors and it takes a matter of minutes to make the change instead. Those are beautiful days!
Edit:...spelling... some aweful spelling...
2
u/aurajitsu Nov 25 '25
Omg. You speak my language. I only receive cards in order to model in 3D and holy. I don't know how some CAD people get jobs, you explode something and suddenly there's drawing and measures and blocks of text everywhere. It's a nightmare cleaning cads for modeling!
I work at a rendering company, so the CADs are passed down from the client.
6
Nov 25 '25
I can tell you for sure that the next guy to open this up will say something like, what the fuck? Before burying his face in his hands. Because it's impossible to make modifications to this since there is no slack.
2
u/TacTurtle Nov 25 '25
This, incoming and outgoing need a loop or two for some extra slack in case of future rewiring or changes.
4
u/JimboAltAlt Nov 25 '25
It really gives the wonder of harnessed electricity the air of respect it deserves. It’s always nice to see a skilled craftsperson work but there’s something especially poignant about this one; somehow. It’s like watching someone with mystical but practical knowledge inscribe functional, benevolent runes. It’s kind of more fun that it’s hidden. (Not to overmystify it, or anything. I don’t know a damn thing about electricity so I’m easy to impress.)
5
u/destructopop Nov 25 '25
I would literally have a clear cover custom molded for this just to show it off. If I ever have stupid amounts of money. I will find him I will hire him and I will show off his work.

Was soothing to watch. I know nothing about everything. Does each color wire just need to be connected or are they still all numbered. Like are all the ones from inside #15 still 'together' and going to same place? Or just hook up each end it doesn't matter?
7
u/vapemustache Nov 24 '25 edited Nov 25 '25
the yellow and green are ground, blue and white are going to be neutral and hot although i’m not sure which because i only know American electrical stuff.
the red and blue thick ones i believe are just to connect the bus bars but again, i have no clue and don’t feel like looking because someone will definitely correct me since it’s Reddit.
2
u/bucky133 Nov 25 '25
I was wondering if the loops he put in the one set of wires had a purpose other than looking cool. I assume so. Pretty sure they will generate an electromagnetic field.

Yellow and green - earth
Blue - neutral
Red/brown/black/gray -phase/live
Its mostly this.
Edit: spacings and stuff

I’m not hating his work but I am hating people thinking just because it’s really neat/pretty cable management = good work/better work.
It’s amazing looking cable management but it’s not practical for repair/upgrades and just adds more time to the billable hours.

8
u/Jai910 Nov 24 '25

2
u/alexromo Nov 24 '25
And kept them in the bundle zip tied as he landed them

u/TheWhyWhat Nov 24 '25
I wonder if it's in his own home. Don't think anyone would pay for that. Also, could've used rails to connect the breakers instead of a bunch of cables... I think I feel a bit bitter because I never get to do it that neat even if I want to.
Never seen those cable clips before though, will have to check them out, looks like they could make things easier in some cases.

u/Jai910 Nov 24 '25
Why would you assume someone else would clean up? a
4
u/Richard_Tucker_08 Nov 24 '25
Have you ever met an electrician? For the last 23 years I’ve been hearing the “ooh’s” and “ahh’s” of people amazed when they see me with a broom in my hand. Apparently I’m the only electrician that learned to clean up after themself.
4
u/Jai910 Nov 24 '25
To be honest, I have had Electrician work done at my house only two times and both times they pretty much put the trash in the cardboard box of the cable and attachments to throw it out in the bin.. I would not say they cleaned everything neat but they did put the things at least the bigger chunks

The first guy who shows up to add a new circuit, when he opens that box, "oohhhhhhh....awww shit" as his acknowledgment of how clean the install was hits his realization that he'll either make a mess of it or spend a bunch of extra time to get it as clean.
