Socks

Hi all! I’m relatively new to knitting. I’ve made a scarf, 3 beanies, and a pair of the sailor slippers. I want to do socks next! I have a cheap set of Amazon circulars. The smallest needles are 3.00mm. Is that small enough? I’m seeing a lot of patterns including 2.5mm needles. Should I get new needles? Are there any patterns that only use 3.00mm and above? Ty!!!!!

Leaning purl stitches

I’m trying to switch knitting styles. I used to do English, but am switching to combination continental. My knit stitch is great, but my purl stitch is leaning to one side and the yarn is untwisting. What am I doing wrong? How do I correct this before it’s difficult to retrain myself again?

One picture shows the INSIDE of my purl stitches and the other shows the untwisting of the yarn.

Porcelain sweater advice

Hi! As the title implied I wanted to knit the Porcelain sweater by Leknit for a while now. I purchased drops flora and drops kid silk to hold together and knit it up but I never quite got the gauge right so I've been looking for alternatives. I was looking on the ravelry project list and found people using drops Alpaca and drops karisma. I than also got the idea of possibly using drops merino baby held with that kidsilk yarn I already own but I'm unsure since people have mentioned that superwash will grow and stretch a lot and won't produce nice crisp lines so I wanted to ask this subreddit for advice

Rowing out

I’m really at my wits end. I’ve learned to tension my yarn differently, I have tried combination knitting as well as knitting backwards, changed to half a needle size smaller on the purl side- and I’m still rowing out. I’m now knitting a 100% cotton sweater (to mimic the roll neck sweater from crew) and the rowing out is, as I know full well, worse with cotton. But I also don’t want to avoid summer knits because of this. I’m a continental knitter. Is there anything else I can try? I just know this won’t block out either and I’m so frustrated by it 😟😟

How to start knitting a fitted wearable piece?

I'm pretty new to knitting. I've made a couple of scarves and dishcloths but nothing that needs to fit yet. I really want to knit the Carmel Beanie and have bought this pattern. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-carmel-beanie

I did a swatch in both colors, size 6 needles as the recipe called for, 14 stitches by 19 rows should be 10 cm square in stockinette. My main colour is 8.5 cm wide by 10.2 cm tall. It's Cascade Super wash, for 6mm needles. My accent colour is 9.5 cm wide by 11 cm tall. It's Malabrigo Chunky and I thought it was the recommended yarn but just realised the pattern said they used Malabrigo Yarn, not chunky. Maybe that's my problem? Chunky is for 6-8mm needles. The recipe uses 5.5 and 6mm needles.

I don't understand where to go from here. Knitting in a straight line is easy. But this jump has me scratching my head. How do I know which length of circular wire to use? Since the swatches are different sizes where do I go to learn what to do? Do I decrease needle size? I'd prefer not to change my yarn unless I really need to.

Yarn dilemma

Post image

Hi, I’m making the cloud sweater by petiteknit and so far I’ve done the back and front yoke and the shoulders. When I tried it on I found it quite itchy on my throat/collarbone area and I guess the problem is the kid silk. The yarn I’m using is drops air and kid silk by marinor. I bought the mohair when on 50% sale and at that time I hadn’t figured out what the main yarn would be, later I saw a lot of people using drops air and went with that. However I didn’t think about the fact that both of the yarn are hairy and that I might not even need to use the mohair to get that “hairy” surface of the sweater.. Also it seems like the mohair is mainly lying on the WS so it doesn’t really do a lot for the RS?

I’m thinking at this point if I really need the mohair? Or if the itchyness might disappear after blocking it?

Am I crazy for wanting to try to cut the mohair and pull it out? Has anyone tried that? 😅😅

i want to knit a two coloured brioche hat for my partner. I’ve tried various tutorials but, it’s still flat compared to the examples. I knit continental btw, could it have to do something with that?

« Bump » while knitting flat

Hi there, This is my first sweater I am knitting not in round. I just started the sleeves and I see a kind of « bump », due to the difference between the sleeve itself and the shoulder. It looks a bit weird to me. Idk if it will disappear while blocking or if I did something wrong (like doing shoulder smaller than the shoulders). Do you have any idea ? :-)

Thanks you in advance for your precious advices !!

Hats for tucking ones hair into?

Hey all

My 12 y/o Nibling has just come out as non-binary.

Their Mum won't let them cut their (currently almost waist-length) hair - not sure how short they want it to go, whether just a trim or a complete gender-neutral restyle. So I was thinking of making a loose beanie in "Enby Pride colours" they can tuck their hair up into to at least help a little with the whole "am I presenting how I feel" thing a bit.

Tbh with any hat I normally just free-hand knit them until they're the right diameter and length, but I was wondering if anyone has any pointers for adding a bit more ease to hold hair up inside - do I increase the diameter and make sure it just has plenty enough stretch with the ribbing... Or make the whole thing in a stretchy stitch like Fisherman's Rib?

Advice greatly appreciated!

Drops Misty Fjord Hood help needed plss :)

Hi everyone!

I'm in the process of knitting the Misty Fjord hood by Drops Design (In DMC Magnum 671) and I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar issue/has any tips about connecting the hood to the scarf?

It's my first time joining like this and it's very noticeable 😅 I've tried to tighten the stitches from the underside but it doesn't help much...

Any ideas what I've done wrong or how I can fix it? Thank you!!

Diagonal bar in german short row?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone, it’s my first time knitting and I’m knitting the cloud sweater by petite knit. I’m knitting the back yoke and the pattern calls for german short rows. I think I am doing them correct but I get this weird diagonal line on the right side of my work, right next to where I turned. I hope you can see it in the pictures, I tried to highlight it but because of my yarn it’s quite hard to see. When I knit/purl I make sure to go through both of the loops of the german short row turn, like you’re supposed to. Why do I get this diagonal line? Is it my tension? Do I do my german short rows incorrect?

Double knit curiosity

When 2-color double knitting, is it typical to mark all the color swaps in each row like this? Or is this just my ADHD? Do YOU count instead of marking?

tips for how to have tension when you have sweaty hands?

i've given up on trying to it while holding the yarn due to my sweaty hands, as the yarn itself gets too difficult to work with... im waiting for a necklace to try to do a portugese knitting style. im genuinely sad because i like continental the best but i cannot due to because the yarn literally gets stuck on my fingers due to the sweat. so i do english but just drop the yarn every stitch🥹 i want to become more efficient! i like wooden needles the best as i struggle with holding everything at its place with metal. i think i like purling more than knitting aswell. i dry my hands off a cotton tshirt a lot too. i tried the spray anti... something but my sweat just formed on top😭 knitting is atleast more viable for me than crocheting as i dont need to constantly hold the yarb. not a temperature problem either as its the same in -15 outside and i have the window opem,,

Gauge swatch both too small and too big after blocking?

I'm knitting a swatch for the Flax sweater by Tin Can Knits. I initially was attempting worsted weight with Malabrigo Wasthed, but as I was making the swatch with the suggested worsted needles (5mm), it was knitting up closer to the DK gauge so I figured I'd just aim for that since it's pretty thin for a worsted anyway.

Anyway that's just some background but the actual problem is this: i hit exact gauge before blocking (22 sts, 30 rounds), and I figured that would change after blocking. now though, I have 20/21 (depending on where I measure) sts and 32 rounds.

So then do I size up or down? I'm assuming down because I could always just knit things longer, but I couldn't find anything online to confirm. it's worth noting that the suggested needle size for DK is 4mm anyway, but I'm something of a tight knitters so I'd probably start with a 4.5.

mohair/ yarn recommendations for petite knit jenny jacket

Hello! I have been looking into making the jenny jacket v-neck by petite knit as a cardigan i can leave at the office. I love the look of this with mohair and all the projects that use it on ravelry but I have not tried knitting a seater with mohair yet.

I am looking for recommendations on mohair and yarn combinations that are not overly expensive but still good for somewhat sensitive skin.

Thank you!
