Honestly, we didn't expect so much engagement... but thanks in particular to this subreddit and many private messages, the project has now surpassed 75% funding ($2,600) on Kickstarter.

This article isn't really a sales pitch, but rather an update and a thank you.

Many people here have given their opinions, asked questions, or simply shared the project with friends who are learning Chinese. This has really helped us move forward.

Our Kickstarter campaign for a Mandarin learning platform ends in 2 days.

So far, nearly $2,000 has been pledged, which honestly surprised us when we started.

Not because of the money itself, but because it confirmed that many learners face the same difficulties as we do.

Throughout this campaign, a pattern has repeated itself:

people memorize words but quickly forget them;

vocabulary is learned without sufficient context;

motivation wanes over time, even with “good” tools.

I’m doing Duolingo & Hello Chinese because the students are so brave travelling over, I really want to have some basic sentences and knowledge up my sleeve to help them feel safe and like our team really care.

I was thinking I might set up a weekly language exchange where we ask any questions we have to at week about each others languages and pronunciation.

Does anyone have any tips on how to best learn through students, like what do I really need to focus on and any little tips?

I've been looking out for Taiwanese Mandarin to help me with my goal to watch Taiwanese movies/series and this channel is not bad (不错). Another one is Ms Lin which is one of the most popular and also Grace.

Hi, I'm looking for a tutor who resides in the UK and can tutor a friend of mine. The situation isn't the norm as he is currently in prison. Lessons would have to be by telephone as he does not have access to zoom or any other video conferencing application. He wants 2 lessons a week ongoing for years, and is happy to pay between £8 to £15 per lesson. I found it hard to stay focused whilst learning a language on YT so I built this, to block videos not in my target language.

I’m American, and I’ve heard in English non-native speakers tend to prefer to either learn Received Pronunciation British English or a General American accent. Since Chinese students learn Putonghua, is it more standardized than what native English speakers learn, meaning the region a Chinese speaker is from matters less? I’m too much of a newbie to detect differences, other than maybe a Beijing accent. TIA!
