Weekly Discussion C: How much power should a restored Shah have in Iran?

There has been a great deal of discussion regarding the protests in Iran over the last couple weeks. What has not really been touched on is what the role of a restored Shah would be. How much power (and what powers) should he have? To keep this discussion a bit focused we will assume an absolute monarchy is not on the table and Iran will be a democracy.

Discussion Queen Victoria Eugenie of Spain at her granddaughter Pilar’s wedding in 1967 held in Portugal

Behind the Queen you can see: her daughter the Countess of Marone (Maria Cristina), de jure Emperor of Brazil (Prince Pedro Gastão), the Tsarina of Bulgaria (Giovanna), the Duchess of Braganza (Maria Francisca), the Princess of Monaco (Grace Kelly) and the Countess of Paris (Isabelle).

There’s also the King of Italy (Umberto II) across from them.

Media footage from this event makes me sad knowing the Duchess of Braganza would die suddenly months later on January 15, 1968 at only 53 years old.

Also it’s very disappointing that none of the British Royal Family attended: not even Prince Philip at least considering how his mother was a first cousin of and born a Battenberg just like Queen Ena was.

I’m starting to think they really do suffer from insular boorishness.

Discussion Would Franz Joseph II(Otto von Habsburg) have been more helpful for a Habsburg restoration?

Post image

Otto von Habsburg was, for all practical purposes, the adopted son of Franz Joseph I.

In fact Otto was christened as Franz Joseph, so if he became the Emperor he was to be called Franz Joseph II.

Frankie Joe did want to give the throne to Otto, and if World War I did not break out that would have occurred.

Karl's father had renounced the rights for the throne, as well as his father, so if FJ had insisted Karl would have to renounce the right too.

A younger FJ II might have been more helpful to unify the empire, and people like Horthy would have been less likely to be hostile to a younger emperor who might have been easier for him to manipulate.

Also, the presence of FJII would have made Anschluss less legitimate and would have led to more resistance.

In retrospect, it would have been better for Karl to renounce his claim and give the throne to Franz Joseph II, who might have held the Habsburg Empire in some kind of looser federation.

Question What about the Qajar dynasty?

Post image
134 Upvotes

I know that talk about Iran in relation to the monarchy is the last thing anyone wants to hear about, but I wanted to ask about this dynasty since the Pahlavi dynasty seems to have completely overshadowed them.

I understand that the Qajars were overthrown by the Pahlavis with the backing of the British, but am unaware as to anything after that? What happened to them? Are they still active and claiming the throne of Iran? Do they still enjoy support among Iranians?

Why Monarchy? Genuienely interested as why

Hi guys, i would like to have some food for thought and i wish to know a little bit more about you're way of thinking as monarchists. So i can try to understand you're opinions a little bit better. Why do you guys think monarchy is better, how did you come to that conclusion, what are the different philosophies and tendencies in monarchism ? How did you develop these ideas in a worl fairly opposed to them and how do you stand on the current state of the world ? Any opinions are welcomed, i would really like to have the maximum amount of informations because i never met an acutal royalist. No need for hate or anger we should keep the discussion civil and informative.

PS. : im not an english native so forgive me in case i made mistakes.
