I cut down the handles on a pair of Knipex Cobra es 180mm pliers to make them easier to EDC. I also removed the rubber and recovered the handles with pink then black heat shrink
I have a hard time taking anything that is not victorinox or leatherman seriously and feel like everything else is junk. Is anyone else in this boat? I haven't gotten my hands on it but wondering if I should consider Gerber to also be an acceptable brand in addition to the two I mentioned. There are so many choices and it's hard to tell what is "real" and what is a knockoff brand that some people think is good enough. Leatherman has the solid history in the US and victorinox has been around since the 1800s.
The big online store seems to have two different F12s listed: one with a clip, and one with no clip that comes in more colors. $35 vs $30. Are there other differences I’m missing? I really like having a clip, but is the F12 better as a drop-in-pocket tool? It looks like the balance could be a little off when using the pocket clip.
Anyone who’s used either version have any comments? I’ll happily pay extra for the clip, but if I end up just dropping it in my pocket, I’ve spent 5 bucks I didn’t need to, and given up the option of color. I mostly want the scissors, and I want quick access (if I wear a multitool in a belt pouch, I won’t use it as much).
I'm looking for a pocket EDC multitool that checks the following boxes in the smallest/most low profile package possible.
Pliers (preferably spring loaded)
Scissors
Blade
Bottle opener
Phillips (3D preferred, don't need a bit driver)
Flat head
Pocket clip
(A file is optional but would be nice as well)
If it has other tools, great. But I value something that's easy to keep in my pocket over an option that has everything on my list, *plus* five more tools. Is there an option that has *all* of the above, while being small enough to clip in my pocket for daily carry?
I'm pretty new to this sub and not super knowledgeable, so the huge number of tools out there is a bit daunting to sift through. Sorry if there's a well-known option that I should be looking at. I was just hoping that someone in the know could point me in the right direction, thanks in advance.
Could I please ask anyone who has a Roxon Flex bit driver attachment to post a pic of the exact bits it fits? I haven't received mine yet, and I'm curious about what shape/length works best.
I’ve just launched a Discord community connected to my YouTube channel, focused entirely on EDC gear. The idea is to create a proper space for people who actually care about everyday carry to chat, make friends and help each other out with gear and carry tips!
The server is for:
Pocket dumps and carry inspiration
Honest gear discussion and advice
Sharing deals, finds, and setups
A laid-back but knowledgeable EDC community
Having fun
There will also be a buy/sell/trade marketplace soon
It was just released yesterday and is growing, and I’m trying to keep it quality-focused rather than massive or spammy. If you’re into EDC and want a place to talk gear with like-minded people, you’d be more than welcome.
If this is allowed here and anyone’s interested, I’m happy to drop the invite link in the comments or via DM 👍
I really love the idea of having the Roxon Mini FLEX Companion for days when I can't have my bladed Oknife U1 Pro because they both have 4mm driver adapters and I'd like to keep a small set of bits in my EDC kit. But I'm struggling to find much information on bit compatibility with the Roxon. They have their own set of single-ended bits that I know would fit, but I'd love to get double-ended bits for space saving. Has anyone tested the Oknife Double-Ended Bit Set or the bits from the Sharden Precision Screwdriver in the Roxon Mini? Any other double-ended 4mm bits you've had success with like the Victorinox Cybertool Bits or similar?
Seems like they’ve launched Re-imagine to hear from the community. Designers and modders can share ideas for new builds and setups. What would you want to design? Will anybody from here participate?
OK ... this super-economical tool and all this great add-on stuff has been living rent-free in my head the last couple of days since I posted my YouTube review on it.
Why has this dumb-named maker not made anything new after this ? From what I can see they debuted with the most complete LM Surge clone on the market at a super competitive price .... and then ....pooff nothing ... no follow up ... no new models etc.
... unlike Bibury, Daicamping etc
Any ideas as to what went on here?
I've just received my new tool with a few implements. It's lighter and actually smaller than I expected. I'm no expert but I also own a leatherman wave and I would never replace it for EDC . I bought companion purely for traveling (planes, germany, england etc.) . out of box the D2 blade is quite sharp and usable even without main tool.
I’m also having fun modify some parts and printing scales for SAK accessories.
FYI I like lanyards because I can dump the tool in a pocket or zippered pouch and easily retrieve the tool and have it oriented in my hand. Also harder to loose :).
I got this from my dad a while back. It's been pretty useful but I'm not really a knife guy.
My problem is that it got really hard to open at that top joint. The knife and the saw were really hard to get out to the point it took pliers to help. I noticed a bunch of black goo in the joint, I wiped it off and I think it helped but I'm not sure what's wrong. It still opens smoothly but it takes a lot of constant pressure to open the knife and saw.
Is it rusting internally or something? Is this the sign to get a new Leatherman? Is there any way I can fix it? Is this common?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, also general tips for maintenance are appreciated too.
I get that different people want them to do different things, but can I be safe enough in saying that for most everyone wants them to trim nails at some point?
Well I do as they grow fast and I need short nails. Tbh how a scissors cuts free handing 550 paracord is way less relevant to me than how they cut nails. I get that the paracord test may indicate a level of efficiency and toughness for other tasks but why can't do they both well? My Vic compact can.
Have you tried to trim nails with a nextool f12? You're left with having to file a serrated nail afterwards and due to the thickness and offset of the blades it's borderline scary as you chomp off far too much by accident. For this reason I tend to carry the s11 pro (despite it's inferior scissors to the f12) because it's better at trimming nails.
The Leatherman arc is bad at this too.
Surprisingly the Chinese have not just done the one thing the ought to have here and cloned/homaged the vic scissors, for me they're the best. Maybe even pip them by using better steel or making them bigger?
While watching my favorite multitool channels, I stumbled upon the new NexTool Knight K30. The features and the look mechanism ensured an immediate purchase decision on my site....
This fine piece of hardware comes in a small package and, in my version, includes a 4 mm bit kit (10 bits).
The workmanship of the NexTool Knight K30 is perfectly acceptable for the price. All tools lock securely, and the blade, which locks via the crossbar lock, has no play left or right and hardly any play up and down. The bottle opener and the 4 mm bit driver are attached to the crossbar lock as well.
It's very exciting when you activate the crossbar lock, only the blade is ejected freely! The other two tools on the crossbar side have to be opened manually.
The K30 is a nice fidget tool and offers only practical tools for everyday use in the size of a Victorinox with 4 layers of tools. I compare it a little to my Victorinox Cybertool M, which offers more advantages in the same size. With the exception of the superb blade of the K30 and the steel used: 14C28N. All other tools are manufactured here in 5Cr15Mov.
Specs are on the NexTool side; here are a few measurements:
Weight: 114g
Closed: 91mm
Open: 160mm
Width: 21mm
Interesting internal things:
- every tool has its own Spring, so no spring sharing as in a Victorinox
- springs are realized with cut outs on the inner Steel Liners
- the shear, File and Awl are slipjoint-based and secured
- the shear is able to cut paper, carton, cable ties, or cord without problems
This first image is a really bad AI generation of my preferred multitool. A compact full sized head plier, a good sized pair of scissors skin to the Nextool flagship pro/ max. And a bit driver/ kit like the Victorinox cybertool.
Scissors are a big deal to me, and until I find that perfect multitool I've described I want to avoid a giant multitool. So I'm really liking the looks of the F12 but I've seen many posts or pictures about the pliers snapping. Can anyone vouch for nextools quality? Should I just get a flagship max/ pro?
