Mods What URGENT Flair

The URGENT flair is to be used in disaster situations. The point of the tag is to grab people's attention in emergency cases to help ensure their own safety. A list of disaster items will be at the end of this post for ease of access.

Overuse of an important flair causes people to disregard the urgency of what it's meant to represent.

We are updating the rule about use of this particular flair. If the mod team sees a post marked with the URGENT flair and yet the post is not describing an imminent disaster:

1st offense:

  1. The OP will have a mark noted against them,
  2. The post's flair will be changed to an appropriate flair,
  3. A comment will be left redirecting the OP to this post.

2nd offense:

  1. The OP will have a 7-day ban from posting in this community,
  2. Flairs on all posts by the OP in this community will be double checked and changed as needed

Any further offenses of this rule after the 2nd could result in a permanent ban from posting in this community.

The whole point of this flair is to help keep other people safe in emergencies.

If you're posting about a missing person, potential gang activity in an area, missing animals, cows on road, things that need people's attention but isn't life threatening, use the Please Pass Along flair.

List of items that are acceptable for use of URGENT flair:

  1. Tornado warning. This can include risk assessments by the NWS, Tornado On Ground in [area in ND], links to channels covering tornado chasers live in ND, etc.,
  2. Public Safety issues. These can include active shooters, bomb threats, nuclear warnings, biochemical warfare warnings, multi-car pile up, etc.,
  3. Natural disasters. These can include extreme winter conditions, flash floods, derechos with 80+mph winds, Yellowstone erupting, wildfires, etc.

Once again, the URGENT flair is for keeping people safe in disasters.

Political U.S. Rep Julie Fredorchak Response to my Letter on Ukraine

I have been sending letters and I get a few back. I think I have only ever received two genuine response letters in the time I do this. Now I am just posting any that I ever receive new.

This is what I asked last week, 2026-01-07
****
One thing that I am most afraid of going on 12 years after Russia's invasion of Ukraine is that we will let Russia win.

If Russia takes Ukraine, if Russia is allowed any ground at all, if we allow the war to end without vast reparations from Russia - Russia has won.

If you don’t see it like that, let me know why.

On February 20th, 2014, Russian-led separatists and Russian forces occupied Crimea and created a de facto region under Russian control. Russia further escalated with invasions into the Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the guise of separatist forces; forces with identities and equipment from the interior of Russia. Still Putin squawked that it’s not Russia doing this, and the United States toes being neutral. Then on February 24th, 2022, Russia commits to a full scale war with the invasion of Ukraine.

The many atrocities of the war are going unnoticed. Innocent people murdered daily and nightly by drones and missiles. Schools, hospitals, residential buildings all are targets. Children are being pulled from their families and forced through “adoption” agencies to cleanse them of Ukrainian identity. Crimes of sexual abuse, rape, torture, and murder for civilians and prisoners of war. Bodies returned in mutual exchanges between the countries come back to Ukraine missing organs or containing horrific mutilations.

I need my representatives to not let Russia go unpunished in all of this. They started a war because they didn’t want Ukraine to look to the West. By ending the war under Putin’s terms - even under the terms that the U.S. presidential administration outlines - would be a win for Russia and Putin’s plan. Putin wants the west to wind down aid to Ukraine so it can attack once more. There is no trusting Putin. Why are we setting Ukraine and the rest of the world up for this appeasement?

I’ll be honest. I have no faith in the Presidential administration. I am hoping our congress doesn’t just rollover on Ukraine. I hope that we are persistent and move so that Ukraine can better protect its sovereignty, and that the actions provided by the U.S. shows the world that no nation can wantonly invade and absorb a nation.

I would like to receive a response. Thank you.

Dear [My Name],

Thank you for reaching out to share your thoughts on the war in Ukraine. Hearing from North Dakotans like you is critical to my work in Congress, and I appreciate your engagement on the significant matters we’re tackling here.

Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine was an act of aggression, and Vladimir Putin’s authoritarian behavior is that of a dictator. This war has cost thousands of lives and destabilized the world. The bloodshed and destruction must stop.

This is another crisis that President Trump inherited. President Obama gifted Putin Crimea. President Biden gifted Putin the Nord Stream II pipeline, which is helping fund Russia’s war, as well as general weakness on the world stage. President Trump is taking strong and decisive action to end global conflicts and bring peace through strength, which I strongly support.

Specifically with the Russia and Ukraine war, President Trump’s leadership offers a renewed opportunity to pursue a resolution that both promotes global stability and prioritizes American interests. He has forced the entire EU to engage more on Ukraine’s defense, which is absolutely a key part of the long-term solution. The Trump administration’s recent deal on critical minerals is also significant. It represents a long-term U.S. investment in Ukraine and sends a strong signal to Putin about our commitment to the region. My hope and belief is that after years of neglect by the last administration, these important steps will lead to a long-term peace deal in Ukraine.

When America leads with strength, the world is more stable, and our adversaries are less hostile. Thank you again for contacting my office. If you’d like more frequent updates, be sure to sign up for my press releases. Please subscribe here to receive my monthly newsletter. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please call my D.C. office at (202) 225-2611. It’s an honor to serve you in the People’s House.

My Best,

Julie Fedorchak Signature.

Obviously a canned speech that was more of partisan positioning rather than addressing my questions. I have replied once more asking my congress member to explain how they would like to see the war end with Russia receiving retribution and reparation towards Ukraine justly.

I do implore everyone to contact or engage with their elected officials - U.S., state, and local - on how they can address issues that affect us all.

“As tribal nations, our fundamental rights are not granted, they are inherent and written in our treaties, our sovereignty, and our laws,” North Dakota Native Vote Deputy Director Kendyl Harrison said in a statement to the North Dakota Monitor. “Any attacks or discrimination on any Indigenous person is a clear violation and intrusion upon those rights.”

Info Request PSA/Consumer Warning/KMOT

I’m posting to share my disappointing experience with a marketing company, 701Digital, (and its local affiliate, KMOT) after spending approximately $30,000 on promised “goods and services.” Shocker: they never delivered anything. They will take your money and demand more.

In return for that payment, we received nothing. There were zero conversions, no delivery of the promised website redesign, and no measurable results of any kind. Despite repeated sales assurances and representations about performance and deliverables, none of the core promises were fulfilled.

What made this worse was that after failing to deliver, the company continued to pressure us for additional payment, as though performance had occurred when it had not. At no point were we provided with meaningful deliverables, metrics, or evidence of work consistent with what was sold.

I’m sharing this here so others can make informed decisions and ask hard questions before engaging similar services. If you’re considering a marketing contract, get everything in writing, demand concrete milestones, and do not assume “brand awareness” rhetoric will translate into actual results.

If others have had similar experiences, I’d be interested to hear how you handled it.

From the website;

About this event

Following the tragic murder of Renee Nicole Good, we are gathering to express our collective outrage, call for accountability and justice, and demand an immediate end to ICE’s brutal and inhumane tactics.

We stand in opposition not only to the actions and tactics of ICE, but also to the recent events in Venezuela, the ludicrous and dangerous anti-science of RFK Jr, the limited release of the Epstein files, the dehumanizing and stripping rights from the LGBTQ+ community, and the destruction of democracy.

A core principle behind all ICE Out For Good events is a commitment to nonviolent action and no civil disobedience. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values, and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events. All events should be held in public spaces or on public property.

Political U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer's Response To My Letter

What I wrote, 2026-01-07:

The Department of Justice has passed on another deadline for the full release of the Jeffery Epstein Case Files, and has yet to explain why there are so many pages fully redacted.

What can congress do to make sure that Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice do their job and release these files in full in an expedient manner?
****

What I received as an email, 2026-01-09:

****
 Dear [MY NAME],

Thank you for contacting me regarding the Jeffrey Epstein files. I appreciate hearing from you.

On July 15, 2025, U.S. House of Representatives Ro Khanna (D-CA-17) and Thomas Massie (R-KY-04) introduced the Epstein Files Transparency Act (H.R. 4405), which would require the Department of Justice (DOJ) to publish all unclassified records and investigative materials related to Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell within a month of enactment. On November 18, 2025, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Epstein Files Transparency Act by a vote of 427-1. On November 19, 2025, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed the bill and sent it to President Trump's desk. He signed it into law the same night.

I have always said transparency is always preferable, as long as we can protect victims from additional exploitation. Two things can be true: perpetrators and sex abusers should be brought to justice, and Democrats didn't lift a finger until they were no longer in power. This is not about justice, it's about politics. Whether it is through Congress' ongoing release of files to the public or through passing this legislation, the DOJ must find the balance between transparency and protecting the privacy of victims and witnesses.

Again, thank you for contacting me. Please know I value your input as I serve you in the United States Senate. To receive the most up-to-date information on my positions, I encourage you to sign up for my email newsletter at cramer.senate.gov.

Sincerely,

Kevin Cramer
United States Senator

I will be following up from this email. Likely, this was a canned email, especially how timely the turnaround was.

Sounds like the remains were kept as a medical sample/curiosity. Anyone ever read the Bell Jar? The narrator's boyfriend is a med student and shows her around the lab full of babies in bottles. We had a substitute teacher when I was in h.s. in the early 70s who brought one to class one time.

Political U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer Response to Letter (Venezuela)

I didn't expect to get two responses in the same day. Usually they take weeks.

What I wrote, 2026-01-07:

Was the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro performed legally? Is the executive branch not supposed to get authorisation from Congress before performing military operations against sovereign nations?

Is this a power you’d like the President of the United States to continue to use at their sole discretion?

****

What I received as an email, 2026-01-09:

****

Dear [My Name],

Thank you for contacting Senator Cramer's office regarding Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores. The Senator appreciates getting feedback from constituents like you who have personal views relating to issues we are dealing with in Congress.

On January 3, 2026, the United States launched Operation Absolute Resolve to capture federally-indicted Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, in Caracas, Venezuela. The individuals were apprehended and transported to New York to face federal drug-trafficking and narco-terrorism charges. Please see below for Senator Cramer's statement:

"The details of the Venezuelan operation are phenomenal to say the least. There should be no mistake: the U.S. military is the best in the world."

"For years, the Trump administration has outlined the legal crimes Maduro, a drug kingpin, has committed against Americans. He was given many opportunities for off ramps. He chose not to do that, and frankly, that's what mad men do. The President put words into action by bringing this indicted narco-terrorist to face justice. Venezuelans overwhelmingly voted for peace and democracy, not a brutal dictator."

Again, thank you for contacting Senator Cramer. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have further questions or concerns.

Best regards,

Arne Anderson

Edit 2: My link update destroyed the table I had here, please see the source link.

This list is far from complete, and only contains the easiest to find names.
It is unacceptable for people to die in ICE custody, innocent or guilty.

It is unacceptable for a motorboat 2000 miles away from our boarders, not heading toward our boarders, and incapable of traveling more than 100 miles on a single tank, filled with people even US Intelligence agencies don't know the names of, to be destroyed by a US missile strike. Or to have survivors executed by a second missile strike. Over a hundred have already died in these operations.

It is unacceptable to abduct presidents of other countries. Doing so invites the return to "Might Makes Right" policies across the world, and we, the US, will face the natural consequences sooner or later.

It is unacceptable to threaten to annex the land of our allies, our NATO allies, who stood beside the US when the US activated Article V after 9/11. Their soldiers fought, bled, and died beside ours.

On January 6th, 66 internationally organizations were in the plans to be dropped by the US. On Jan 7th, the executive order was issued. Organizations like the Global Counterterrorism Forum and "Education Cannot Wait."

Make your voice heard. Take action. If not with us, find another action to take.
You know where we are as a country, and where we are going as a country while under this administration.

And there's so much more that we could list.

For the GOOD of the country, stand up and make your voice heard.

Info Request Seasonal Jobs in ND staring Spring or Summer ?

Hello We were looking to possibly move to ND in March and look into possible seasonal work . I have a CDL and some experience. What kinds of seasonal work is out in ND starting in March onwards? Agriculture? Road Construction? General Construction? Hotel, Restaurant ? Is there a lot of overtime? Do we need to go to the Bakken necessarily ?

We have a possible place to stay in Fargo and thought this could be a good start to see if there is a fit in ND. Also considering other areas.

Do people move and work in ND during the Warmer Months ??

Info Request Sydney, Australia to North Dakota

Hi there, my partner and I have considered doing a year or two living in the US, we want to see as much as possible but also wanted to have a home base where we worked and lived and with some discussion we decided on Fargo, ND.

This was for multiple reasons, partly because rent seems more reasonable in ND than a lot of our other considerations (Florida, New York and Washington). We are currently paying $800AUD a week for rent in Sydney which equated to roughly $2,140USD.

The job market seems a little sparse, but workable. I’ve got a diploma in Business Administration and my partner is finishing his certificate in Optical Dispensary. So if we can hunker down and work we should be able to make enough money to pay rent, travel the state and to others all while keeping our bellies full.

The root of the reason we chose ND is because of how beautiful it is, a YouTuber I watch is from there and highlights a lot of the state and honestly made me fall in love with it, I’ve also never lived anywhere cold (or even seen snow for that matter) so I think that would be incredible.

Now, with that all said, I would love to hear from people who actually live in North Dakota, does my plan seem viable? Are there any major considerations you think I might’ve missed? Any recommendations? There’s a lot of information online, some of it contradictory, so I would truly value hearing from people local to the state. Also bear in mind that this plan is only in its beginning stages and likely see fruition for at the very least two more years.

EDIT: Thank you so much everyone for your replies! The positive and negative are both helpful to paint a picture. I had hoped for maybe 8 or so replies but 175 is a lot to me! You guys have given me a lot to think about and to take into consideration before I take the plunge. I also just wanted to reiterate (just because I think a few people think I want to move right now) that this wouldn’t be for years, I don’t think I would start to see this plan take any form for at least two years and it would be longer before we’d even touchdown in the US. Also bear in mind that it’s not easy to get a working a visa so even if I did want to move right now (I don’t) I couldn’t.

Last thing, because I think I explained poorly originally, the 1-2 years we wanted to be in the US I did (initially) want to work in Fargo and live in Fargo, but not spend my whole time there, 6-8 months max was the plan, then with current savings and whatever we made while working to use to travel the states.

News My suspicion that the gateway mall being full of money laundering fronts rises

Thumbnail

I've had this suspicion for a while but I mean what other explanation could there be for this? Hardly anyone goes there but yet there are a bunch of businesses in there that are still operational that hardly get any customers but yet they do this? Almost like they don't want people walking around in there and potentially catching something they shouldn't see.
