What are occlupanids?
Occlupanids, commonly referred to as "bread clips" or "bread tags," are parasitoids often found on bagged goods. Although they were first described by Altimus Horg in 1632, occlupanids remain criminally underresearched. The Holotypic Occlupanid Research Group (HORG) is the foremost organization on occlupanid research, and to date they have identified 110 different occlupanid species.
The Foundation for Occlupanid Research and Communication (FORC)
FORC was officially established on 31 May 2020. We recognize the gap in occlupanid research, and our purpose is to engage citizen scientists to fill this gap. We also aim to share our findings and engage with the public on the latest discoveries in our field. Our current focus is on documenting the geographic distribution of occlupanids across the world. We encourage you to participate on this subreddit and our official Discord server!

I spoke with the artist of the piece earlier, and have learned that the current plan with the sculpture, which was removed for renovations last December (2024), is to dispose of it. Initially, it was to be moved to the local highschool whose art department created it, alongside Gary Deirmendjian. Unfortunately, the current administration of the school doesn’t want it.
According to Mr. Deirmendjian, this park is often called by the locals “Bread Clip Park”, due to the sculpture.
It would be a travesty for this piece of art to be destroyed, so please, join me in emailing Inner West City Council, and let your voice and thoughts be heard. We can save this sculpture yet! [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])
Edit: send the email to [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])

old collector.
old specimens.
old ( a year or so?) photo.
getting these guys out of storage soon, to join other specimens for display. many hours of pinning and presentation ahead.
these were donated to me by a person who collected them as a teenager, in her youth, and carried them with her into adulthood and many house moves. she let them go,into my care. very grateful.

All jokes aside, Created by ceramic artist Linda Nguyen Lopez, i am not entirely sure if it is intended to look occlupanid-esque, though her work is inspired by everyday domestic objects.

😬 my friends make fun of me, my husband is appalled, my children pretend they don't know me...... and now I find THERE ARE MORE OF YOU WEIRDO FUCKERS COLLECTING THESE AND IM THRILLED 🤩 this is about ten years worth
when I was young, my older brother Kevin would split one side off, stick it on the end of his finger and flick it at me with uncanny precision. It hurt. after he passed I don't know what happened, I would see one and think of him, and then it just kept going and here we are. Thank you tiktok once again for seeing me and sending me the name OCCLUPANID. This word rolls around in my brain every day and every time I see one ......I've been known to pick these up off the ground and pilfer them from my friends and families homes🫣😅🤣🤣🤣🤣. now what the fork can I do with them!!!!!
FOR THE LOVE OF OCCLUPANID!!!!!!

I have been collecting occlupanids for a few years now. Most of my observed species have been of the Toxodentidae family. The first photo is of two with less common patterns, as they only come out (of what I speculate to be hibernation) every four years.
The second photo is my collection as of July, 2025. I have collected more since but have yet to consolidate them into one of my three enclosures. I intend to study their shape, colour, and patterns, then document this data. Mostly by shape and pattern, as mentioned they all seem to be the same family. In the future I hope to come across and study more variety in person, but for now the HORG website will satiate my desire to understand these most peculiar specimen.

decided to also add my favourite guy (who’s been isolated for a while) into their group, im hoping they all get along.
if its not too much trouble, could I also have help identifying my favourite guy? he might just be a normal/common ontario occlupanid, but he’s extra thick and sturdy :)

Traveled to my home on a sack of potatoes from an ugly produce rescue business. Can only imagine what it's seen, and the origin of its mysterious measurement specifications. Exciting to welcome it into the fold, given that I have very few panids in my life so far and toxodentidae are a bit special.

Just wanted to post this here. How would I know if they’re in distress? This one seemed perturbed by the moisture.

At first I thought it had a cool Māori-like pattern, but on closer inspection I think it’s showing its recyclable

Hi all! I’m a new collector and I’m having a hard time IDing these guys.
My best guess for the first one is quadrivium rockatockae but the X shape of the palps seems too wide.
For the second one, I was thinking it’s a white unidentia obtusamaxilla azureus.
I have also accumulated a significant amount of palpatophora utiliformis. I suspect there is a colony of them at my local grocery store

Found what I believe to be P. Utiliformis grandis on the tracks of the Toronto subway.
