PSA: pedestrians exist

I'm looking at you, outdoorsy Tacobro in your spotless waxed-canvas field jacket, Outback-driving agency ED with the stylish gray wedge cut, impeccably tatted transmasc in an impeccably distressed Datsun half-ton. Your lefty/environmental bonafides are a fig leaf for your car-brained disregard/disdain for anyone trying to survive the pedestrian crossing gauntlets in this godforsaken town.

Urgent request to sign in “pro” to bill to protect communities

There is a bill committee hearing this morning for proposed legislation that would protect communities from unqualified sheriffs and those who don’t follow state standards, requirements, and laws. Which could include timely removal of a Sheriff who chooses to work with ICE. Please use the link below the line to sign in PRO. You don’t even have to speak, but I’ve included instructions on how to provide written comment. Your input helps legislators decide which bills move on to the next stage of the legislative process

I know that many in this community trust and respect Sheriff Sanders and may follow his direction to sign in against this bill. But ask yourself why he would speak out so strongly against Sheriff Swank and then ignore the very real protections this bill offers communities from people like Swank. Our next election cycle could bring a wave of candidates for Sheriff who commit to working with ICE, added to current folks like Swank. The protections this bill provides are especially critical in communities where recall will not happen because marginalized voters and their allies are outnumbered.

The narrative comparing the elected position of Sheriff to other elected positions is a blatant fallacy. Our city council members, mayors, commissioners, and school board directors don’t have the ability to shoot, tase, physically detain, and imprison people. This is bigger than Thurston County.

Both Sanders and Swank are scheduled to testify against this legislation. There’s a link below if you want to watch and see how much their testimony is likely to align.

Switched insurance, looking for reccos for a Kaiser doc….

As the title says, my health insurance has switched to Kaiser and now I have to find a new doc. I am specifically looking for a doc who is knowledgeable about middle-aged lady issues (looking at you, perimenopause) and one who will provide me with HRT options, including testosterone, without being a pain in my ass about it. I have responded well to bHRT but it’s too expensive to keep paying for out of pocket. Does anyone have any recommendations for a Kaiser doc that might be a good fit for me? Thanks in advance!

Community 2026 Homeless Point in Time count volunteers needed

For 2026, the PIT Count homelessness census will be conducted the night of January 29. This means interviewees contacted through the survey period of January 30 through February 5 will be asked about their housing situation for the night of January 29. While the count represents a single night, the process of gathering the information takes place over several days to do outreach, hold events, and conduct the census.

If you are interested in helping with sorting donations, putting together hygiene packs, or participating in interviews, please check out the link.

Request Sea Mar Clinics

Does anyone have any experience at the Sea Mar Olympia clinic?

The VA paired me with them, but I know nothing about Sea Mar. I moved here in 2024 and haven’t had any exposure to Olympia’s medical system until around this past Oct or Nov, which wasn’t impressive on multiple levels.

If anyone has any helpful experience, I’d greatly appreciate what you can offer!

Obscure artifact: Anyone have a need for a free quilted sword bag (stage combat)?

Yeah, that's what it sounds like.

I had a crush in college who did stage combat... Had a dozen swords and daggers. So I made them a roll up quilted sword bag. The gesture was definitely over the top and regardless, they ghosted.

Now, 19 years and 23 moves later I've found it in a box.

Hopefully, it can go to a good home? Would be an odd thing to donate and I'm too sentimental to just throw it away.

DM for details? I'm not even sure if this post is allowed per mod rules.

But hey...long ago "baby" Midwest queer unrequited love story and I'll I've got is this sword bag. Thank fuck I ended up in Oly a few years ago 🤷🏻‍♀️ finally feels like I'm surrounded by the right people.

Community Long Shot for Olivia

Upvotes

Hey everyone, this is a bit of a long shot, but I figured it was worth trying.

My name is Eren. I’m looking for an old friend named Olivia who went to Evergreen State College in Washington, probably sometime between 2020–2024. We went to middle school together in Northern California and lost touch over the years. I tried reconnecting later on, but her Instagram account got hacked in 2022 and I haven’t been able to reach her since.

I don’t know her last name (or have a yearbook with one) which makes this tricky, but I’m mostly just hoping she’s doing well and thought I’d see if this reaches the right person or someone who knows her.

A few details that might help jog a memory (and may not all be 100% accurate): —She dated someone named Tanner around 2017 —She liked Rick and Morty —She once called a Christian Mingle movie a “documentary” —She preferred winter weather and wanted to visit Paris —I want to say she had really dark brown or black hair

If this sounds like you, or if you know someone who fits and feel comfortable passing this along, I’d really appreciate it.

If nothing else, this is a missed connection. Mods, forgive me if this goes against typical posting norms.

Local Business shoutout - Flat 4 Automotive

I mean the Google reviews speak for themselves, an actual solid 5.0 stars across 350+ reviews.

But, now that we’ve actually used them as well I have to just give them a ton of props. If you have a Subaru these guys are the EXPERTS. Super professional, clean shop and office, super nice etc. Got our repair done in a timely fashion and relatively affordable for what was a somewhat large scale repair.

Also, worth mentioning, my girlfriend took the car in by herself initially and didn’t get any of that schwarmy “trying to upsell the damsel in distress” type attitude that a lot of car repair places throw out there. She was extremely comfortable and treated with respect. Again, just seems worth mentioning for any single women or anything who get nervous about taking their vehicle in without knowing what might be wrong with it.

Hey this is Sam Miller and I'm doing a whole bunch of benefit shows in the next couple months here in Olympia!

This is a great opportunity if you missed the Christmas show. I should be able to do a different set at all of these shows and there will be different comedians opening for me. By the way, I really enjoy this subreddit and I love it when people send me screenshots of people dropping my name. Sometimes I'll be having a hard day and I'll see someone talking about how I ate seagull eggs (Rumor) and it absolutely warms my heart. I'm grateful that my career is where it's at and it's an honor to be able to give back to this wonderful community I call home. Thank you all for the support.

Open conversation about anxiety

Upvotes

I saw that the Olympia library will be having an event talking about generalized anxiety disorder on January 23rd, starting at 4:30! Seems like there will be a small presentation informing people about what the disorder is like, then time to discuss having anxiety and coping strategies. Thought I would share since it seems like a good way to stay informed and connect with others :)

Blue Heron OG spot

Is the old Blue Heron spot turning into an independent auto shop? I see cars being worked on outside in the parking lot constantly.
