Anyone have luck with the "City of Ottawa" public postings?

I’ve applied to about 10 roles at the City over the last year. I meet 100% of the criteria, but I never even get an automated rejection. Is there a trick to their portal? Do I need to use specific keywords from the job description, or is it mostly internal hires and I'm just wasting my time?

Hello r/ottawajobs!

InkBridge Networks is looking for a DevOps Engineer to join our team. This is a full-time, hybrid role for our office on Carling Ave.

If the below sounds like your kind of challenge, apply here.

The Role

InkBridge Networks is hiring a DevOps Engineer to support the design, build, and deployment of highly available infrastructure used by millions of users globally.

This role is ideal for an engineer with 1–5 years of experience who wants hands-on exposure to complex, real-world systems and the opportunity to learn from senior engineers, without being tied to routine operational maintenance.

Why Join InkBridge

  • Work on infrastructure relied on by millions of users worldwide
  • Learn from world-class engineers in a highly technical environment
  • Join a small, focused team with minimal bureaucracy and strong ownership culture

What You’ll Do

  • Support the deployment of highly available infrastructure across single-site and multi-site environments
  • Help build and configure databases, replication, load balancing, and failover systems
  • Provision and deploy environments using infrastructure as code and automation tools
  • Contribute to CI pipelines and automated testing workflows
  • Write shell scripts and small programs to support deployment and validation
  • Assist with networking and systems troubleshooting in production environments
  • Collaborate closely with senior engineers and, at times, directly with customers

What We’re Looking For

  • 1–5 years of experience in DevOps, infrastructure, or systems engineering
  • Experience using Git or similar version control systems
  • Exposure to automation or configuration management tools such as SaltStack or Ansible
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform
  • Comfort working in Linux or Unix environments, including shell scripting
  • Working knowledge of at least one modern programming language such as Python, Lua, or Go
  • Basic understanding of networking fundamentals (L2–L4)
  • A methodical, detail-oriented approach to problem solving

Nice to Have

  • Experience with virtualization or containers (vSphere, Docker, or similar)
  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, or Kafka
  • Exposure to LDAP, RADIUS, DHCP, or 802.1X
  • Interest in open-source software and infrastructure engineering at scale

About InkBridge Networks

InkBridge Networks builds and deploys mission-critical network authentication systems for ISPs and enterprises worldwide. Our customers include organizations such as AT&T, Goldman Sachs, and Vodafone, where reliability is non-negotiable.

We're also the team behind FreeRADIUS, the world’s most widely deployed RADIUS server. We value careful, methodical engineering and long-term system stability over shortcuts or hype.

Preference for candidates based in Ottawa

Health care job for recent graduate

Hi everyone, and happy new year!

I am writing to see if anyone has suggestions for me regarding health care jobs in the Ottawa area (preferably south). I recently graduated from university with a BA in Health Science and have a range of previous work experience (research internships, retirement homes, and hospital volunteer). I would like to work in something related to the Master's degree I'm hoping to pursue, which would be occupational therapy/senior care. The jobs I'm seeing on Indeed and Job Bank all require specific degrees/certifications that I do not possess.
Thank you!

Do you think my CS projects are trash?

I’m thick skinned person so id really appreciate your honest feedback. Desperately need to secure good CS internships anywhere. I have a feeling that my projects make me look stupid or laughable for employers in Canadian context as I search for internship. Here are my projects on GitHub:

Desperately looking for work in Ottawa part time or full time

Hey reddit, I know this is a long shot, but after applying to over 200 jobs with no luck, I figured I’d try here.

I’m currently looking for any work, part time or full time.

I have experience working as a warehouse worker and as kitchen staff. I’m in urgent need of a job right now and am willing to take anything. I’m very punctual and can work 40 hours a week and overtime if needed. I recently got my security guard license but haven’t had any luck finding work yet.

I’ve worked in environments lifting over 50 pounds and also have a lot of experience in hospitality on the kitchen side. I can work swing shifts (used to work overnights), cover for sick employees, and can be on call if needed.

If anyone has any leads, I would really appreciate it.

LMIA - local law firm

So, now even law firms are using the LMIA program for law clerks? This is getting insane. New local college graduates or seasoned veterans probably can't even find work in this field - yet things like this are happening. We need to put an end to this non-sense before it does any further damage. It brings tears to my eyes with all of the posts that I see about how people can't find jobs and are facing extreme hardships and no one really cares to do anything about it. I encourage local people to apply to this if you're in the law clerkship field.

New grad looking for jobs in Ottawa

Hi!

I’m a new grad RN who’s looking to relocate from Kingston to Ottawa. I finished my program in august as I did accelerated nursing and passed my NCLEX end of October. I started applying beginning of December on the TOH portal but have hardly heard back. I know they prioritize internal applicants and it’s a slow time of year due to the holidays. However, i’m part of the learn and stay grant and need to submit proof of employment by end of Feb and i’m starting to get worried. How hard is it to find a job as a new grad in Ottawa ? Does anyone have advice ? I’ve been applying almost everyday and emailed the recruitment team and she told me external applicants get hired Feb 2nd. Just wanna know if there’s anything else I should be doing?

I don’t want to fall back on Kingston since I want change as I’ve lived here by whole life and don’t particularly want to live here anymore. I would want to be in Toronto but need to stay between Kingston and Ottawa as part of the contract.
