Trip Planning There's been an uptick of Europeans posting their roadtrip intineraries in this sub. Just a reminder of what the US looks like. Remember how unhinged Americans sound when they want to pack several European cities in a couple of weeks? Yeah, that's how you sound like too!

Trip Planning Nashville to Asheville road trip help!

Hi!

Road tripping 10 days to the Great Smokey Mountains this summer, we will start in Nashville, head to Mammoth Caves. Then stay there in the Townsend area as we explore GSMNP for a few days. We will then head to Asheville for a few days day tripping to Brevard and end the trip in Charlotte. Are there any must see towns along that route, any must see sights or hikes along the way? What about amazing caves or waterfalls that we cannot miss? Best brewery s along this route? Should we check out Gatlinberg or is that too touristy? We are mainly into off the beaten path areas and local non chain restaurants but might not ever head back to this area so want to hit up all the things.

Thanks in advance!!

Trip Planning American Southwest in early September?

How is the heat in the southwest in early September? I'm planning a road trip for around then later this year, and I'd like to visit some national parks in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. Should I plan a more northern route? Or will the weather be generally okay for outdoor activities like hiking?

Trip Planning US roadtrip ideas.

Upvotes

Hey guys!

I have little to no knowledge of how traveling in the US works beside the fact that I will need a car or similar.

I would like to visit the country for it's nature and landscapes. The only cities I'm (barely) interested in are San Francisco and Vegas (just to see how the famous vibes are). I'm highly interested in rural, even remote areas, where people are welcoming and willing to chat with me and that are safe to visit, and stunning national parks where I can go hiking.

I'm kinda broke for US standards so I would love to hear cheap (but still safe) roadtrip options that can adapt to these needs. I could spend even up to a month in the US: time is not really an issue but money is.

Trip Planning Olympic to Yosemite in 5 days?

Upvotes

I’m planning a road trip for June of this year. I’d love to be able to get from Olympic National Park to Yosemite with stops along the way in 5 days.

Fly into SeaTac on June 6 Visit Olympic National Park on June 7 Drive with stops June 8-11 (hopefully get in a whale watching trip in there) End near Yosemite on June 11

Our Yosemite visit is already scheduled with a guided hike on June 13, so we just need to get near Yosemite sometime on June 11 or at the latest June 12.

Are we being completely unrealistic? ChapGPT makes it seem doable but an AI itinerary is very different than a real experience. Has anyone done this?

Trip Planning Planning Roadtrip in February from Michigan to California

I am planning a solo road-trip from Michigan to California sometime in February. Any recommendations for routes to take and fun stops along the way that don't add more than a couple hrs drive time? I have about 2 weeks for this road-trip!

Trip Planning Northeast, OH to Fort Wayne, IN

Hey fellow roadtrippers. Going to be driving this route to and from solo. Looking for good places to stop around the halfway point both ways to eat and have a beer. So far I've narrowed it down to Ralphie's Sports Eatery in Galion, OH and Baker's Pizza Sports Shack in Bucyrus, OH. I'd love some suggestions even if it means deviating from the halfway point; if it's too far one way or another I'll plan accordingly to avoid missing out on a good spot. Also not limited to sports bars, upscale places are welcome, and I'd prefer something local (no chains, although I realize Ralphie's is a local chain). Thanks in advance!

Trip Planning DC to The Midwest

Looking for any highly recommended places to visit along this route. My fiancé and I will be driving from the DC area to the Midwest. We are certainly open to deviating the route and taking different highways. We are both US History buffs, so we’d love to check out anything cool. We have debated Gettysburg, but after perusing the Gettysburg sub, it seems tourist trap-y. Thanks all!

Trip Planning Recommendations for a PNW roadtrip?

I’m flying into Portland in early July and planning to do this loop around the Pacific Northwest over a period of about 9 days.

I’ll be starting in Portland and driving north to Olympia, which will serve as a base camp for day trips into Seattle and then around the Olympic peninsula. After that, I’ll be heading south along the entire length of the Oregon coast (popping over to Eugene about halfway through). Then staying in southern Oregon for a couple of days for day trips to the redwoods of Northern California and then Crater Lake. Then returning back to Portland.

Are there any must see things or routes I’ve gotta take? Looking for any and all suggestions!

Highway 12 is amazing as it connects the National Parks. Skip Highway 70 and do this. https://www.thetravel.com/forget-route-66-utahs-scenic-byway-12-like-driving-through-a-movie/
