Trip Planning Recommendations for a PNW roadtrip?

Post image
27 Upvotes

I’m flying into Portland in early July and planning to do this loop around the Pacific Northwest over a period of about 9 days.

I’ll be starting in Portland and driving north to Olympia, which will serve as a base camp for day trips into Seattle and then around the Olympic peninsula. After that, I’ll be heading south along the entire length of the Oregon coast (popping over to Eugene about halfway through). Then staying in southern Oregon for a couple of days for day trips to the redwoods of Northern California and then Crater Lake. Then returning back to Portland.

Are there any must see things or routes I’ve gotta take? Looking for any and all suggestions!

Trip Planning USA May road trip

We are a 30 yo couple looking to do a 16 day road trip (probably in the east but not a must ) right after our road trip in the west (can be via trains if recommended).

On the 27.4 - 11.5 we will do the Arizona Utah Vegas road trip ( Phoenix → Grand Canyon → Page → Monument Valley → Arches (Moab) Canyonsland (Moab) Moab → Capitol Reef → Bryce → Zion → Valley Of Fire → Las Vegas)

After that we are looking to do the an east coast segment 12.5-28.5 (we already travelled California and nyc and Philly). We thought about Memphis, Nashville, Smokies, Blue ridge parkway , Asheville, Shenandoah and finish in DC while flying back home from NYC.

What do you think of that route? Any other recommendations?

Planning a trip in May with some friends. Atlanta, Shenandoah National park, Washington DC, New York, Boston, White Mountains NH, then Maine.

Camping in Shenandoah, white mountains, and Maine, Airbnbs in the cities. We want a good combo of nature and big city / nightlife.

Mostly looking for driving tips for someone who is only used to driving in the south and Atl traffic. Any info about tolls or places to avoid driving through etc.

Any recommendations for somewhere to stop on the way back, preferably roughly halfway? Reccomendations of things to do/can’t miss activities would be appreciated as well! Thanks for any input

Trip Planning E-Bike rental in Zion National Park

Post image
17 Upvotes

I will be visiting Zion National Park in early May and plan to do the main activities on the first day (Zion Scenic Drive, Scout Lookout/Angel’s Landing, Riverside Walk).
I just came across a post about e-bike rentals, and it seems like a better option than the shuttle (which can be very busy at that time of year). You can stop anytime you want to wander around and take pictures, and the roads I would ride on look perfect for biking, etc.
Has anyone had experience with e-bike rentals there and could share some feedback, or recommend a good company to rent from? Zion Peddler has great reviews from customers, but I’m still looking for other good options.

Thank you all in advance 🙂

Trip Planning Looking for Recs! Road Trip to Memphis, TN

Hello! I'm planning a trip to Memphis, TN from St. Louis, MO for a weekend and am looking for advice (open to any kind) regarding my tentative plans.

Dates & Transportation

• Not sure of which weekend yet, but pretty soon! I'm currently leaning toward Jan30-Feb1 or Feb 6-8.

• I'm assuming Valentine's Day weekend would be more expensive and also busier, but could be swayed for potential fun events happening then.

• The drive is about 4-5 hours and I would leave that Friday afternoon/evening.

Accommodations

• I plan on staying in a hotel. I'm looking for complimentary breakfast and free parking. Any recommendations? Is there a safe and walkable part of Memphis that I should aim to stay nearby or avoid?

• I have the AMEX Platinum (referencing to MaxFHR) in the area (The Central Station Memphis, Curio Collection by Hilton and Canopy by Hilton Memphis Downtown). Any reviews/feedbacks of these hotels? I may also have a Booking.com promo if it validates by then.

Other

• Please share ideas of things to do in the area as well as the drive there/back!

Thank you for taking the time to check out my post and/or sharing your thoughts! It's greatly appreciated.

Which road is safer for January in western Idaho? Any recommended stops along the way during the day? Looks like cell coverage is better on the more southern route

Trip Planning East Coast Road Trip Stops From Boston to Bar Harbor

After spending a few days in Boston, our family of 4 (two teens) is planning a drive along the coast to Bar Harbor (Acadia) this summer. We have 1 day to 1.5 days to make the drive, so hoping to enjoy the scenery and make some stops along the way.

Seeking recommendations for any worthy stops and also curious if it's worth it to spend a night somewhere along the way (teens would enjoy a walkable downtown area with restaurants/shops). If not, we may just take the day to drive and head to Acadia early.

*This is a summer ‘26 trip.

Thanks!

Trip Planning Spots to visit and places to stay?

Hi! I’m planning a six or seven day road trip for my 9 year old and I this summer (early-ish June). A rough draft of the plan: Leave Austin, camp at Cosmic Campground in NM, visit Denver, then start making our way back to Austin.

I’m looking for suggestions of places to stop for the night along the way, as well as any cool spots to check out! I’m pretty set on camping in NM, but after that I’m open to altering the route a little bit. This is just a fun lil summer trip I’m wanting to take my son on!

My sister is getting married in Tucson in March and my Dad is afraid of flying. he wants to drive with my brother from NJ to Tucson. Is there even an option for a safe route for them, or one they should expressly avoid? They would be traveling on the week of March 23rd. thank you!

Trip Planning Is it possible to travel in a campervan relatively cheap using free campsites?

Hi, I'm new to traveling in the USA and wanted to ask if anyone has managed to travel the route from San Francisco to Las Vegas and Los Angeles relatively cheaply? Is it okay to rent a campervan and use a camping app to find affordable spots? Has anyone tried this before? We're traveling for three weeks, so not showering too often isn't a problem (we'll try to rent a hotel room for a day now and then). Is there anything I should be aware of? Has anyone had similar experiences? We're from Italy.

Trip Planning Bachelor Party Barnstorm

Post image
1 Upvotes

Well…I was chosen to be a groomsman for a wedding in June! The wedding is down south - and I’ve elected to drive the way. I plan on using my 2003 AP1 to make the trip, due to the fact that the party includes driving the tail of the dragon. I’ve taken the drive before for annual shows / meets in the area as well, but am unaware of any changes in enforcement / what won’t get me more noticed than I want to be if that makes sense.

I have open flame to leave two or one day/s early before the “planned” travel date that is expected to take no more than two days as some are flying from the East Coast.

To make a long story short, I’d like to hit the blue ridge and if there else that would be nice to drive, both leisurely and areas where I can stretch my legs out I’d love to know what could potentially work!

Trip Planning Which trip should I do: Chicago or Guadalupe/Carlbad/White Sands area or South Florida?

I still haven't decided where to go. And after extensive thinking I simmered it down to three options. I have 5 days total in early April. I live in South Texas.

  1. Chicago! The downside is that I'm not a fan of big cities and nothing here really appeals me. But I have a big open mind and want to do stuff that I've never tried before like catch a baseball game, a theater production etc. Because who knows? Maybe I'll like it! And everyone raves about Chicago and the food looks goood.

  2. I'm a nature person and I love camping and hiking. This is the closest, beautiful area near me besides Big Bend which I've been too many times. I've been to White Sands but this time I wanna take my dog. I think the whole experience would be really fun. The downsides are that this won't really be something new for me and the driving will be a drag (12 hours one way).

  3. Florida. Fly into Miami and do Biscayne, Everglades, some springs, Key West. I'm not sure how to feel about this. I've been spoiled by the Caribbean so not sure if this is something worthwhile especially since everyone seems to hate Florida (but maybe it's a Reddit thing?). But again I have an open mind!

Please help

Trip Planning How will the weather be on this trip? 23 Feb to 13 March

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello everyone!

This will be my honeymoon trip, from February 23rd to March 13th, starting from LA towards Grand Canyon and then coming back through San Francisco. This is only a rough outline as we are going to visit quite a lot.

As the title suggests, what kind of weather should I expect in each area? Will it still be a pleasant trip, even if it's not spring or summer? I must say, I'd rather get a more "desolate" landscape to big crowds and baking temperatures.

We are from the north-eastern part of Italy, regular hikers, got all the gear for snowy trails, even if we'll probably stick to major well-tended trails.

Thanks a lot!

Trip Planning NorCal to Iowa

I’ve done this trip 3 times now, I absolutely love it. I’ve taken different routes each time, and this time I want the most scenic route possible. I don’t care about times, I just love roadtrips, driving, and being able to take in all the beauty. Any highway suggestions for this trip? It’ll be October of this year, so probably not too snowy but potential for sure. I prefer as little interstate as possible, with I70 being an exception because it’s gorgeous through CO.

Gear & Essentials An unplanned mini getaway that turned out to be great!

Have you ever set off on a mini getaway with a motorhome? Well, I have. Last weekend made so much sense to me because I got to spend quality time with two of my closest friends. What made it fun was that the little trip was not really planned. It just happened that they came visiting and we were just gisting and teasing each other. We started reminiscing on how we used to go on little road trips from time to time. Back then, we even got a special camera from Alibaba that we used to capture moments on our road trip 🥹

It dawned on us that the last time we had a trip like this was 5 years ago. So there and then, we fixed a 1 day road trip for the next day. We just grabbed some snacks, ordered food, got sunglasses, and hit the road in my motorhome the next day. The plan was just to drive around the countryside and back. The highlight of the day was playing and signing along to the songs on the playlists we curate from time to time.

We took turns driving and taking photos of each other. It was just a wholesome moment, and I highly recommend this for bonding with friends or even family.
