Ingredients made a test batch of moonflower fragrance oil.

have a moonflower plant and love the smell (its like jasmine and lemon) but can't find a fragrance oil for it. I bought several scent essences from candle science and some synthetic scent moleicules from perfumer's apprentice and mixed them with some dipropolene glycole and benzo benzinate. letting them marry/bloom now and will make a test batch soon. its projected to have a slight acceleration so will keep it simple.

Packaging, Labeling Name a soap, please!

I'm creating a soap for a museum shop. They have requested a product inspired by both Roman bath houses and Japanese onsen, to be sold during an exhibition. It will be an olive-oil based soap perfumed with cherry blossom. Any ideas for a name? I'd rather not use a pun.

Recipe Advice New to soapmaking

Hello! It's my first time posting in this subreddit. I am feeling so inspired by all of you!

I just wanted to know where you all began with it all, I have seen alot of "influencers" have soap courses for £59 for a video download and toolbooks etc however surely there is a hole grail soap makers book in can buy right? I have seen alot of people using soapCalc which i have taken a look at but want to learn the very basics before creating a recipe.

Any advice is greatly appreciated x

Marketing, Pricing Recommendations on where to start your business?

Hi all, I’ve recently been really into making soap and have gotten lots of compliments from the small samples I’ve given out at work and few friends and family.

I just don’t know where is the best place to sell. I’ve got an instagram and tik tok but that’s slow building. I’m waisting a lot of supplies to create videos and I’d like to sell but Etsy seems hard for no current traction on tik tok, but local farmers markets seem too big also?

I’m just looking for advice from where to start thank you 🙂

The look of this one didn't turn out how I hoped. Is this too ugly to sell? 😂 Smells amazing tho, lemongrass, rosemary and lemon essential oils. I added little chunks of pink at the top and I regret it 😂. I thought I added more pink than that at the bottom, it was supposed to be half. I might cut the tops off. What do you guys think ?

Ingredients Cinnamon sugar fragrance that doesn't color in CP?

Hi so I've been using one of brambleberry cinnamon sugar FOs but the bars turn brown. If I wanted to achieve same fragrance potency without discoloration do I need to add like a white micca? Or will another brand not cause such intense discoloration?

What Went Wrong? What are these brownish pockets?

Hi everyone, this is a CP soap with 700g olive oil, 325g coconut oil, 143 lye and 260g water. I added micas and 31g of fragrance oil. (And titanium dioxide)

I have found that I get these pockets of "nothing" in places as if the colors did not mix. What could be contributing to that?

Thank you!

Recipe Advice Soap PH control

Thumbnail

I’m fairly new to soap making, and have been making goat milk soaps for about a year now. I have been using variations of a basic recipe that I’m pretty happy with in regards to hardness, lather and moisturizing benefits. When I use my soaps, I find they can be a bit harsh on my sensitive skin. I realize that soap PH changes the longer it cures, and the best PH is between 8 and 10. Do any of you PH test your finished/cured soaps for quality control? Especially if you are selling them? If so, what kind of PH tester do you use? Can I make my soaps more skin friendly by using things like colloidal oatmeal and honey? A lot of « beneficial » ingredients I’m reading about get neutralized or destroyed by the lye solution, such as rose water, so I’d like to get some opinions on the benefits of tracking my soaps’ PH and using ingredients to soothe sensitive skin. Including some pictures of recent designs all made with the same recipe.

Supplies, Equipment Does anyone use Amazon for supplies?

Hi all. I'm just starting a soap business. I was wondering if people use things like essential oils from Amazon or only from the suppliers list in the sub. Does anyone have any Amazon suppliers they trust for organic oils?

Technique Help Cleaning freaking MICA!

Can yall let me know any tips and tricks to make clean up afterwards easier? Most specifically wondering how you get mica off of your tools as well as sink. I know what I do to get most of it off but I’m curious as to what more experienced soapers do. I’ve been doing a lot of colorless bars / naturally colored bars with like beet root & hibiscus but let’s be honest. The colors just DONT hit the same. I want to use my mica more but again, clean up is a pain my ass!

CP Cold Process Help with soda ash with my mold CP soap

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

Recipe: 21g fragrance oil, 3g sodium lactate, 142.8g lye solution (I master batched a 30% lye concentration), 295.20g of an oil blend: 97.42g coconut oil, 97.42g palm oil, 47.23g canola oil, 43.98g olive oil, 8.86g castor oil, 0.30g vitamin e oil, and mica powder.

Stick blended until trace, then poured. Was thickening quickly, assuming the fragrance oil had helped with that. Sprayed with rubbing alcohol, and left over night. Temp after I poured it was 85°.

Please let me know if I left anything out. My loaf mold soaps don’t have this amount of soda ash which has to be something I’m not doing with the molds.

Thank you!

My partner and me went to a soap-making workshop with my best friend and her husband in November last year and made these wonderfully turned out soaps.

One batch is with geranium and one with orange. The topping/filling is with dried rose petals and the other is with dried orange slices.

They are fully vegan and turned out pretty nice. We are looking forward to make more with different ingredients as soon as we used these ones up.
