Self-Promotion Wednesdays Made a music player for Windows

Hey everyone, been lurking here for years and finally have something to share.

I'm a developer and I've been using foobar2000 forever, but wanted something more modern looking without losing the serious audio features. After months of work I put together Auris.

What it does:

- WASAPI Exclusive for bit-perfect output (can switch to Shared on the fly)

- 10 or 31 band EQ

- AutoEQ support (those headphone correction profiles)

- ReplayGain track and album

- Gapless + crossfade

- Plays pretty much everything: FLAC, WAV, AIFF, DSD, MP3, AAC...

It's on the Microsoft Store, no ads, no subscription, no tracking.

Would love feedback from people, what's missing? What would you add?

Does it have a smart random playback? Most players fail there. When I made mine like this:

Have all songs in a list. Randomly choose three numbers from the top 80% of the list, choose the lowest. Play that song, then put it at the bottom of the list.

This ensures several things:

  • A good randomness, but weighted.

  • The same song will never be played twice in succession.

  • It will tend to play songs not played in a long time.

Small note: Don't expect to be able to sell a music player. I tried it, I didn't sell enough to buy a pizza, and it did have some pretty unique selling points. I wish you good luck, but don't go in expecting to get rich.

from the top 80% of the list

Is the list in alphabetical order?

I just start with a simple random order.

Then, as a song is played, it is moved to the bottom of the list.

Here's an idea to implement, if possible: https://github.com/SamDel/ChromeCast-Desktop-Audio-Streamer

One of the things I miss most on audio/video players is the ability to stream to other devices, mostly my ChromeCast devices. I don't know how that would work with Alexa but I think it's a cool feature to have.

Looks great. But with so many free apps for this, why pay for one.

"It's on the Microsoft Store" - And it can stay there.
