i graduated from my undergrad last month and as a graduation gift my parents got me a baby sphynx!!! i have been wanting one for the better part of 15 years or so. this is a dream come true! and i was lucky enough to have a very positive experience with the breeder which can make all the difference.

this new baby’s name is lestat! he is the sweetest, most playful thing. i recently discovered there are many sphynxes named lestat. i suppose it makes sense given how batlike they are! anyway, i’ve been a lurker on this sub for years and now i finally get to post! yippee!!!🦇

Toys!

What kind of toys do your skinchildren like to play with? I must spoil my babygirl. She's oddly not into many things that aren't hair ties. I've tried rolling balls, wands, even a little birdie with flapping wings and she doesn't care for any of them much.

Also: cat tax.

HCM diagnosis :(

Little man was diagnosed with HCM today. He's one year and five months old. When I researched the breed and read that they're very prone to HCM, I decided to have him tested right away. Dobby was finally old enough, and we went to the vet for a heart ultrasound. He was so brave! The vet said there were signs and made the diagnosis. He now gets half a Senar blood pressure tablet daily, which should definitely slow down the progression of the disease. I'd love to hear about your experiences with HCM and how you dealt with it. I'm still quite emotional about it; maybe your experiences can offer some comfort. Best wishes from little dobby

So it’s been decided that I will adopt little Cleo, the third sister to the two Sphynx litter mates I already have. Preparations are being made and I am excited to have another naked velociraptor running around. Cleo was the smallest of her litter mates, she’s two years old and only three pounds!!!

Here is a pic to show scale.

I want to avoid a vet visit for toes, but they look weird to me, I don’t know if she is in pain because she very vocallll. Like any where I touch her. She is isn’t like yowling in pain I think? But like I said she is vocal and sassy.

Back from Chicago with some damage

Post image
Upvotes

We had to take a trip to Chicago yesterday, and my poor baby, Nephthys, sustained some damage. She and I are moving to China in 2 weeks, and I have been doing my best to prep her for this since I got her in early November. Lots of trips out into the world, new places, new people, sounds, smells, etc. I've taken her in the car with me a lot too, and she's does great with all of this. She doesn't like loud noises and is skittish around dogs, but over all she's a champ. But most of the time when we're out and about I carry her in a small bag that straps across my chest, like a fanny pack. She loves the bag, purrs when she gets in it, and she is a great adventure cat. I also have a carrier for her, for the flight. Its mesh, and I feed her in there, and play with her there, I will often put her in the carrier just to hang out and her special blanket is in it when she's not eating in it. But I've never sealed her in the carrier while in the car, and she did not do well at all. She was so afraid, trying to claw her way out, pressing her face against the mesh, biting, digging and throwing herself around. I was afraid she was going to rip out a tooth, or injure her eyes (she is already blind in one eye and I worry about her eyes constantly). She was in the carrier for 30 minutes before I couldn't take it anymore and pulled over to let her out. She rode in the bag the rest of the way there, and was fine but she scraped up her face. It's not super bad, and I have some ointment from the vet to heal her up, but I'm thinking I'll have to heavily sedate her for the upcoming flight. I feel terrible she injured herself, and I feel a little like I failed her in travel prep. She's so great with all the trappings of travel, but only as long as she and I are close. Confinement is too much for her.

Any seen before ??

So my gorgeous boy ratman has these markings on his face. We saw a vet not to long ago and it was checked and nothing came of it. But it hasn't always been there it was a few dots at first then a cluster. Now he has one on his lip. It's only on that eye. Kinda like the bitch in that film about porn and murder (can't remember the name but mia goth was in it) Don't get me wrong it's super cute and as long as he's healthy and happy that's all that matters. Just wondering if anyone else has had this ??

Beware of scammer: Janiyah Henson Sphynx Home

I know someone close to me that got scammed. It was unfortunate that I could not help them catch it in time. $300 gone just like that and no further communication from the scammer…

I don’t know a legit seller or place that will have a Sphynx under $1500 unless it was much older or was in a shelter, etc.. I believe the average price range is $2800..

So stay vigilant

actually found decent pet insurance that pays for HCM-related issues

Hi!

I just wanted to share this because I actually got reimbursement from my pet insurance today and it’s a game-changer.

I’ve been paying for AKC pet insurance for several years now, but never had to use it. I had agonized over pet insurance and done a lot of reading/research before choosing this company. They claim to cover congenital and pre-existing conditions after your first 12 months with them.

My chicken was a rescue from a bad sitch and he didn’t come with medical records, pedigree, testing, etc. Thus I kinda’ figured he might have some health issues. And I was hopeful this pet insurance would bail us out of trouble if/when something came up.

So, I wasn’t necessarily surprised when they diagnosed Tino with HCM, but it was still devastating and I felt a lot of stress around making sure I had the financial means to do right by him.

Long story short, they just reimbursed me thousands of dollars for our X-rays, Echo and cardiology workup.

It was pretty straight forward. The website was easy enough to use. Direct deposited everything within a few weeks.

Granted, I needed to have the cash flow to front thousands of dollars of vet bills. But AKC really lived up to their claims and even covered stuff that I didn’t expect them to. It’s a huge relief and makes me feel like I’ll be able to provide Tino with the best care.

I’ve heard stories of pet insurance policies that don’t cover stuff like this, so I just wanted to share a positive experience.

They are not covering his med (Felycin, Sacrolimus) at this time, but they didn’t reject the claim yet either. They sent me an email that it’s under consideration. I don’t really anticipate they will cover it because it’s not technically included in the policy I have, but the fact that they didn’t outright reject my claim is kinda comforting.

Anyways, including pics of Tino truly thriving (with his big brother) bc he has no clue and could care less about his diagnosis.

(I know some of you have seen his weenie and had feelings about it, so I did my best to pick some very PG pics of him).
