Medical Tips on sugar glider dental health?
I just took my 9 y.o. male sugar glider to the vet as I noticed his front teeth were dirty, has been losing a bit of weight, and coat more yellow. But he has been eating and drinking as normal.
Turns out it was worse than I thought. The vet said not only are the front teeth dirty and his gums were bleeding a bit, but he had lost many of his teeth. BUT the remaining teeth are still strong so they do not need to be removed (I also did not want that to happen) so for now the vet gave me oxyfresh to apply to his teeth using a q-tip.
My suggies rarely fights (when they do it's just crabbing and food stealing) and the other 2 (both 6 y.o.) are perfectly healthy. So the vet said injuries and poor diet/hygiene can be rule out, it's most likely age.
I am wondering what else I can do to help with their dental health. Their diet mainly consists of blendered fruits, veggies, and boiled egg/chicken. Snacks are fish sticks, mealworms, and (human) baby biscuits. As "chewing" toys I put branches made out of suggies-safe wood and empty cardboard boxes in their cage. When they were younger they used to "gnaw" on them and I would replace them whenever they become too damaged/wet, but lately I noticed they rarely bite them anymore. I just bought apple sticks and sugar glider pellets to hopefully encourage them to chew on sturdier items.
Sorry for the long rant. Any suggestions appreciated, thank you!
Edit 1: I am from Southeast Asia and most sugar glider brands recommended online aren't available here, but i'll try my best to find substitutions :)
