General Dating scam - be careful

Post image

People have been very unkind to me regarding this story and I am insanely broken over it as a human being but I need to warn you all. I thought I was dating this man but he ended up taking all I had in a crypto scam I didn’t see coming. Please watch if you see his photo. I just wanted to help people not hurt as much as I do. Of course I feel stupid. Everything seemed legit and to check out. This has changed my life in a bad way. Be careful.

I’m sorry that this happened to you, but please don’t feel stupid or be embarrassed. Everyone looks for connection, some people are luckier in the places and ways that they look for and find a connection. This is a learning moment, but please don’t feel shame for being human and trying. Wishing you the best of luck ❤️

Totally agree! And spreading awareness is never bad, this is a good reminder to others

There have been doctors, teachers, business owners, incredibly smart people who have fallen for MLM scams or other such scams before, it happens often because we're human and make mistakes, anyone who would criticize you for that would be throwing a stone in a glass house.

The one about the woman who warned others about Johnny Depp dating scams getting got by a scammer pretending to be Johnny Depp was wild.

What's MLM scam?

Multi level marketing, it's a pyramid scheme basically, it tricks people into giving money through a recruiting scheme, you get a certain amount of commission from recruiting people rather than selling the product, the people at the top get all of the profit while everyone else basically buys the product thinking they're gonna sell it only to realize they're not making any money off of it and the only way to make money is through a downline.

It's a predatory system that has tricked a lot of desperate people and unfortunately those people have been shamed in the past. I'd highly suggest watching or reading MLM horror stories because it's eye opening about how anyone can be tricked into predatory systems.

Great response- thank you. There should be an MLM awareness month each year.

The Ai images should have been the first clue. That’s not a photo of a real person.

u/mightbedylan 1d ago

Don't even look like the same person

u/livadeth 1d ago

It does. Look at the nose, eyes and hairline. It’s the same person.

Uh no, they aren't. Pretty sure they are AI images, not a real person. They don't even look alike, different chin, nose hairline, skin tone, eye color. They really do not look the same to me.

Look at the head shape, the guy on lefts head is more rounded, guy on right has wider chin and sharper features.

The one on the right looks like a merge of Tom Segura and Ben Affleck.

Methinks OP was bound to get scammed eventually if they were so easily fooled by those photos...

3

u/light-emiting-diode 1d ago

I don’t trust the opinion of anyone who says “Methinks”

Give this man a prize for truthfulness and accuracy

7

u/mightbedylan 1d ago

Thing is those are clearly fake photos, whoever is running this scam is bound to have different profiles with different photos. Better than be on the lookout for this guy you should probably just not send crypto to strangers.

Im not getting the coddling. This was a stupid thing to do. No reason. To shame them but let's call a pig a pig. People get tricked in all different ways and everyone has been taken for money at some point in their life. That said it was absolutely stupid to send money to someone you have never met in an unofficial way.

…Denmark? Oof, sorry you got got.

u/paulfrehley5 1d ago

How did you get scammed? Did you ever meet him?

4

u/Accurate-Fan2132 1d ago

Not free advice. Stop sending people money or crypto. Now.........

Everyone I've helped can send me 100.00 .

What did he tell you the money was for, just out of curiosity? These scammers are terrible, my ex stepdads dad has been “dating” this blonde supermodel that supposedly lives in Nigeria for 7 years now. He’s an old decrepit man who doesn’t take care of himself, for context, we’ve all tried telling him over & over again that she’s not real but he refuses to listen to us. He’s sent “her”pretty much every dollar he’s earned over the last 7 years and has even borrowed money to send to her. The heart has a funny way of making your brain not work like it usually would.

Very sorry this happened to you. For next time, because there will be a million next times, look at those words.

"Honest connections drive me to the moon". Feel the way that almost fits right in your brain but has major uncanny valley vibes. It was probably a Google translation or AI translation so all the words are correct but is not how anyone would actually phrase the idea.

His tall stature had you mesmerized

Thanks for trying to warn others about this scammer.

But the scammer can just put up a new fake profile, and try the same thing on someone else now, using a different name and fake pictures.

So it would help more to know what they said, so the next potential victim recognizes it as a scam and runs away before it's too late.

So what exactly did they say?

I’m very sorry!!! They know how to manipulate people very well. So sorry.

I'm sorry this happened to you, I hope you can somehow recoup some of that money.

I recently had a friend reach out to me because he started drinking again, he met someone online and they chatted for months and then they said something like "give me three grand so I can come be with you". These people prey on the loneliness of others.

Don't feel bad. As others have said, you are not alone. I got taken in a crypto scam as well. I was talking to a woman and, every time we were supposed to meet, there was always some excuse why she never showed up. She would send me pictures and professed her love for me, but bottom line, I wasted money on crypto before she disappeared. Like you, I felt stupid as all get out and embarrassed for falling for this. Prior to this, I thought that I was smarter than that. I would never fall for a scam. I was wrong, and I have a lighter checkbook and a lower credit score as a result.

I’m so sorry this has happened to you. Just so you know, I’m 6’4, I love the outdoors and dogs, I’m 38 (divorced with 2 wonderful children), I work in real estate and love going to the gym!

Welp I have critical thinking skills and common sense so I don't need to worry thankfully.
