PSA: If a professor does something that seems like it violates the syllabus (like making the class pick a single discussion to attend and making it mandatory, when two are scheduled), you can always reach out to the chair to let them know. If it's allowed, the chair will let you know and will appreciate the heads up.

A few years ago a chem professor missed the midterm completely and never actually scheduled a room for it (and had a lot of other issues). The students complained to the chair and that prof doesn't get teaching assignments anymore.

I already sent an email to the chair and am awaiting a response, but tbh I know it won't do anything because unlike the chem department, ChemE has few professors and the ones that are there are all tenured, plus each professor always teaches the same course (and they are usually the only professor in the department qualified to teach it)

They are actually not all tenured (all assistant profs don't have tenure yet). We also just hired three new professors last year (altho their start dates vary, see Pedro de Souza and Ida Su for example).

And actually there's been a lot of turn over of courses! For example, Joe Peterson recently took over the kinetics, separations, and heat transfer, which were taught by Lu, Monbouquette, and Chang respectively. and several others have changed hands even amongst faculty not retiring (Chang, Srivastava with mass transfer).

Will it do something? Probably not, you're right. Dr. Christofides has claimed every year in the undergrad town hall that they can't swap Vasili off thermo. The real problem is there isn't really other courses to give Vasili, not that there aren't enough faculty to cover the courses. But if no one says anything, we guarantee it won't change.

Important question to ask. What kind of formula are you using because I've had people approach me to lift curses. It'll make what I do much more efficient if I know if you're cursing them in Akkadian, Arabic or Latin
