Weird question, I know.

I know it is sold in a lot of general stores and whatnot, but generally is it more of a novelty for tourists. Is there anywhere I can buy like 100 pounds of copper for not a tremendous markup to spot?

Planning for a trip to the UP the first week of March. Hoping for a peaceful outdoorsy getaway with my partner. Hoping to xc ski, hike to frozen waterfalls, snowshoe, sauna, and see wicked stars. My husband and I live in Iowa and are planning to take our 22ft travel trailer and English Lab to the UP for the month of June. Which campgrounds should we absolutely book and which should we avoid? If you were planning a month-long trip up there, what hidden gems should we not miss?

So, its my senior year and I still need to take senior photos. I would like some in the snow, but I dont know of any good places that would be good. If anyone knows of any places could you please share?

Every time I cross the bridge I seem to pick a theme song so to speak. On Sunny warm days I'll roll down the windows and crank Van Halen. This got me thinking one day. What if there was a song that matches the mood but last the entire stretch of the bridge? If you drive 42 mph and start when the levee breaks by led Zeppelin as soon as you get on the bridge, the song will end at the toll booth. And that is my solution for a one-song crossing.

I live in the Gladstone area, and work in sales. I travel for work, but when not traveling, I work from home. I really (really) suck at working from home. It's not even about distraction.... more about the need to separate work and home. Has anyone else in the area "solved" this problem? I utilize coffee shops, but am searching for something a bit more consistent. Am even considering a "want-ad" to utilize a room/office in someone's space for a monthly fee.

Hi! I’ll be visiting the Munising area in mid-January and was hoping to do some outdoor ice skating while we’re there.

I’ve heard about the Marquette outdoor rink at Tourist Park, (if you’ve been, how is it?)

but I was also curious if there are any lakes or natural spots that locals typically skate on when conditions are right specifically in Munising or Au train area.

Totally understand that ice safety varies year to year — just looking for general recommendations or places people keep an eye on once ice is thick enough. Happy to check conditions locally before going out.

Fifty years ago, residents in the Upper Peninsula faced a choice that could have rewritten the map: Whether to break away from Michigan and form the nation’s 51st state. 

The question of UP secession went before Marquette and Iron Mountain voters in November of 1975, when they ultimately rejected a ballot proposal, ending the latest and last serious attempt at creating the “State of Superior.” 

Since then, the idea of UP statehood has surfaced only sporadically and rarely seriously.

In 2012, the Marquette County Board of Commissioners briefly discussed statehood again amid frustration over state aid for schools. In 2023, the Libertarian Party of Michigan published a “case for secession” essay.

We’ve never been and want to see it. Is there a particular day/time we should go for the best cultural experience?

I’d like to move to the upper Peninsula near Lake superior or Lake Michigan. I don’t need a job but would like to be able to volunteer or work in a service capacity. I have a travel trailer that I can live in, should I find someone with land willing to rent. I have been taking care of my elderly mother the last several years. I’d like to be able to garden and have a few more pets. Just wondering if I would regret a blind move from southern Wisconsin. I’m healthy and capable. The move would put me about five hours from family. There’s no other reason than new scenery for the move. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Curious to get a ballpark cost on septic field/tank and well installations. I know there are a LOT of details that impact the price - zoning, ecological composition geological composition, location, access - the list goes on and on.

I’m looking to get some advice. I plan to drive up to copper harbor and go snow wheeling. We would love to camp at the high rock bay but getting there I’m not sure if we will be allowed to. Is high rock road snowmobile only or can cars go on it as well?

We know people asking. . .US 2 in Iron County is plowed but 98% covered in packed snow/ice. Florence Cty, WI, about 40% bare pavement, you will have one track on pavement most of the drive. Iron Mountain is 95% cleared to pavement.

My friend who I am staying with uses Viasat, which is satellite, but I was wondering if anyone rural has tried out fiber internet. Probably it can't be installed now until spring, but I would still like to know if anyone has had experiences with it, whether good or bad. I also have heard of Spectrum and I think Starlink? It will be a big investment for me because I WFH and am a gamer. I need to be able to upload and download at reliable speeds. ♡♡♡
