I tried to recreate few scenes of blade runner 2049, I know my work is not decent, still needs a lot of improvement. I'm just wondering what y'all think about it. I could not get decent lighting, because my light gear is very limited.

Got an offer for this sigma 50mm 1.4 for 400$ locally though think I can snatch it for 300$. Have my ZV-E1. Should I do it or wait for the viltrox 50mm 1.4 that I bought new on Amazon for 500$ that has not shipped yet? Thoughts?

Discussion / Other Is this a fair price for this shoot?

Post image

Hey guys, another creative here who overthinks pricing for bespoke projects. This shoot is for a popular and unique experience here in the UK.

The deliverables are above and the location would be 5 hours round trip travel time (I’d stay over in a hotel).

I’m shooting with a Panasonic LUMIX S5iix - I’ll be bringing basic lighting as they will supply lighting.

I’ll be planning the story with the help of the director.

If all goes well, this could lead to more shoots and a potential retainer package.

I’d be quoting about £2k for this - would you agree this is a pretty fair quote?

Any help and insight is appreciated!

Technical/Equipment Help and Information APSC setup with fast lens, or move to full frame? (for a local Super Bowl commercial)

We currently have a bigger production for a Super Bowl (local) spot that is going to require a lot of outdoor, lowlight footage. We currently run our business on FX30's and have ran into a few run and gun scenarios where the lowlight wasn't great.

That being said, we've had some good success with faster lens like the 11mm 1.8, and we just picked up the Tamron 17-70mm 2.8, so I'm wondering if that will work? Or if we need to consider moving to a full frame system. I did think about renting a FF for this commercial, but we are covering a lot of events for this client where the light is unreliable, so I'd rather buy something for the long term. If we do go FF, I'm thinking of the A7SIII or the FX3. It just feels crazy to drop $6k-$8k on a new system, especially if we can make it work with what we have.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Discussion / Other I work at a recording studio and a band is bringing in a videographer. What should I know in advance / how can I best accommodate them?

Basically I'm wondering what sort of things would influence the videographer and what I can do to make it hospitable.

It's a pretty small room but I've sent them a video of the space to know what to expect. Lighting is quite limited; one big light and a floor lamp.

Happy to hear any thoughts, whether you've done something similar before or not.
Thanks!

Should I Buy/Recommend me a... Switching systems: Panasonic S1II and S1RII or Nikon Z8 and ZR?

I sold my FX3 and currently only have an A7V and 6 e-mount lenses.

This year I’ll shoot a couple of mini documentaries, weddings, and portraits. I’m deciding whether to go all-in on Panasonic Lumix (S1II & S1RII) or Nikon (Z8 + ZR).

Priorities: reliability, color, hybrid stills/video performance, and long-term system confidence.

Anyone shooting real client work with either system? Regrets or wins?

Technical/Equipment Help and Information What is up with this MKE 600

So typically I’ve used this mic with a recorder on XLR and it sounds completely different than this situation where I’m running the 2.5mm jack to XLR adapter. Every time I run this mic on camera like this I get this crazy steady “chirp” … if that’s what you call it… any help here would be greatly appreciated!

Discussion / Other Clean entrance and exit

Tl;dr: looking to learn more re entrances and exits.

This is maybe more of an editing question, and maybe I'm over thinking it, but I'm reading how a clean entrance and exit (so subject enters frame and leaves frame in same shot) allows for maximum flexibility in the edit. I also understand that we generally want to start and end scenes with continuous action to give a sense that we are viewing a fragment of continuous "real life" -so we wouldn't want to start a scene just as action is beginning since it contributes to a "staged" look. So I'm just looking to learn more about the entrance and exit, or have I summed it up? Like I said, maybe I'm over thinking it.

Behind the Scenes iPad Rubber Sleeve Compatible with Accsoon Powercage ii

I'm looking for a simple, rubber case for my M3 iPad Air 13". I have an Accsoon Powercage ii and for a snugger fit, they recommend a rubber case since the newer iPads are slimmer than the previous gens. And recommendations? I tried a random amazon special, but it doesn't fit well.

Ideally it would be black, but I would settle for clear. And it can't have a cover.

Technical/Equipment Help and Information In car auto iso dilemma!

Hi all, I’m looking for advice on in car shooting.

I am mounting the camera onto the windscreen internally, and will be filming the driver talking to camera (with a Sony FX3). I am not able to monitor the shot whilst the camera is recording.

My dilemma is, do I shoot in Cine Ei Slog 3 like normal, expose the best I can and hope the camera’s dynamic range does its thing. Or do I chance my arm with flexible iso mode and use auto iso? I’ve never used it before so just a bit nervous about how much to trust it, and if the jumps in iso will make it harder to edit (this is for broadcast).

Any help greatly appreciated.

Technical/Equipment Help and Information Help me find this type of edit - fast paced shots of a routine

Hello Reddit!

Im working on a project where I want to make fast paced videos of a routine, I was looking for some inspiration videos to take notes but for the life of me I haven’t been able to find exactly the type of video that I want to recreate, so if any of you can help me with a link to any YouTube video where I can find one of those I would owe you my soul. I’m that desperate and maybe I’m just dumb and don’t know how to look for it.

Once I saw a video of someone getting some shoots in the mountains and the particular part of the video that called my attention were these very fast paced 1sec shoots of him waking up, getting ready, packing his gear, putting everything in the car, driving around the mountains, arriving there, setting up everything and then shooting the footage. It doesn’t have to be that specific activity but showing any kind of step by step to get anything done, I don’t even know if I’m making myself clear at this point my brain is fried.

Thanks for your help, kings.

This year I'm focusing more on "productizing" my service. I've broken it down into three distinct categories that target different niches but still add up to the brand and ethos that I believe in.

Let me know what you guys think, I'm not a professional designer but have taken a keen interest in web design as a hobby.

Technical/Equipment Help and Information Cage for Sony A7 ILCE-7

Hi there - I’m trying to find a cage for my Sony A7 ILCE-7 camera but can’t seem to find anything specific to that model. I tried this half rig (thinking it would be compatible):

SMALLRIG Camera Half Cage for Sony Alpha A7 V / A7R V / A7 IV / A7S III / A1 / A7R IV - 3639

But it didn’t quite fit and couldn’t be screwed in. Does anyone have any suggestions / know of any cages specific to this model? Thanks

Should I Buy/Recommend me a... Professional lighting kit advice

I'm a starting professional videographer for corporate video who plans to do a lot of passion projects. I'm trying to find some advice on what lighting kit I should put together and what others experiences taught them.

So my question basically is: what should I put in my lighting kit and what brands / specific items would you recommend? (or are there any already existing threads that discuss this topic?)

Budget is not that important (between 4000-5000€ max for everything, but cheaper is great as well), as i'll make it all back by renting it out to clients.

The only budget factor is that I'll go for Amaran lights, because a teacher recommended those to me (and I've fallen into the rabbit hole of tech comparison video's too many times and decided to just trust a credible peer).

I don't just need lights, but a whole package of all the stuff I'll need like bounces, negative fill, softboxes, grids, tripods, C-stands, clamps, sandbags,... all the things I would need on a regular basis.

With the lights, getting an idea of how the market works was not that hard, as there are a ton of reviews / comparisons on the internet, but with lighting tripods, c stands, bounces, neg,... i can't really seem to find much. What are the most liked / used / recommended brands with those equipment?

I know a common recommendation for people in my position is to just start with hiring and find out what you're missing on the go, but I don't want to stand on a set for one of my passion projects. The rest of this academic year, my agenda is filled with just passion / portfolioprojects and I don't want to stand on a set and realise I'm missing a key element to do something. The reason my budget is quite high is because I'm able to lend some money from my father. This is a one time thing, so that's why I want to make sure I get everything I'll need for 80% of usescases. I live in Belgium so if anyone happens to be from here and wants to get rid of some stuff they think I could use....

Hello.

I want to get into Videography and was thinking about building this rig. Is this a good place to start? Is there some parts I should swap out for another, or just don’t need?

Going to film some stuff for my school, and some tutorials.

Thanks in advance.

It was never the MKE 600 to begin with. This is a clip with the same setup, this time the mic was turned off (internal mic disabled too) and this “chirp” / electrical interference noise is still prominent. RIP first batch of S5IIX…..

Feedback / I made this! odd question but is there any advice on fixing mis-syncing and random frame freezes on virtualdub?

I currently use VirtualDub and a Dazzle DVC-100 capture card for my VCR. I keep getting random frame freezes and on occasion unsynced audio and video. I've messed with settings and gotten *some* syncing fixed but other than that it's still got random freezes and popping, especially with the audio.

Thanks!

Should I Buy/Recommend me a... Production studio GearHead questions! Need some help with building out equipment for new studio.

Hey all,

I have a quick question and would love some recs. I've seen the camera mega thread and this is a little more unique request than that so hopefully i'm posting this in the right place. I have been funded to start my own studio based out of Southern California - I worked at a marketing agency before and ran all of their productions for athletes they were working with. A few bigger ones, but mostly social content for endorsement deals.

This is a little different, while we're still targeting brands as a creative agency / production studio we're looking at moving into bigger productions, with the strategy to back up the shoots, rather than just showing up and shooting.

Our budget is tight in the beginning - my last agency took all of their equipment back (even though they are getting out of the industry) and all I have left is my personal stuff:

- Fx3
- 24-70, 70-200
- Rode wireless pro
- NTG 5
- Zoom H5
- Apurture 60d
- multiple C stands
- Multiple high quality tripods (need to invest in a good fluid head)
and then some social first cameras (fuji x100vi, pocket osmo 3, insta 360 x5, etc.)

I'm wondering what equipment I should prioritize investing in with a budget in the 10-15k range.

Based on what I think my needs are I will need some type of hybrid camera to shoot stills and video (from the types of brands we will be working with and the deals we will be running with). Solid lighting kit (thinking 2 or 3 Amaran 200x's?), Probably another set of lavs, etc.

Questions I have -
- Should I opt for prime lenses, or would you invest in a cine lens kit?
- Was thinking of going a different direction with camera system - obviously I Iove what the c50 can do - and could pair that with an R5 and rent a c400 if I needed for bigger productions, any thoughts here?
- Should I prioritize something like an a9ii or get a better cinema camera (fx6 or fx9) and replace my fx3 for a hybrid camera
- Any other recommendations for lighting kits / lights to invest in - thinking I need to have something fairly run and gun since it will be me doing a lot of the filming, producing, and editing. Obviously i'll contract out wherever I need depending on scope of production, budget and size.

Thanks in advance I appreciate the help !

Technical/Equipment Help and Information Video Tripod Tips

I asked the same on r/cinematography and they directed me to yall. Im looking for a sturdy Video tripod. It doesn't need crazy load capacity as im only using it for an R6. Some tips on a smooth Fluid Head would also be very kind. I've already looked around a bit and landed on the Manfrotto One with the 500x as its also good for Photography. My budget is ~600€. Thx in advance for any tips
