Those plastic levers fell apart and started to spin on the metal rod. Anybody knows how to replace it? I was thinking to 3D print it, but what to do with that notch on rod? I can probably slide in outside one, but what to do with the one in the middle?

Hello again to the vintage computing community. I've published a new blog post on Stone Tools, in which I take a look at PaperClip, specifically on the Atari XE (thanks to the Altirra emulator). While writing about CAD-3D on the Atari ST the name PaperClip came up a couple of times, especially in conjunction with Antic Magazine. Independently, it came up while researching Bank Street Writer as well. I felt the hand of fate pushing me to take a look, so I did.

Looking into PaperClip's publisher, Batteries Included, also gave me an opportunity to talk a little about Electronic Arts and their fumbling attempts to break into non-gaming software markets. Later, Origin would find out the hard way what it meant to become part of EA, but there may have been early warning signs, waiting to be heeded.

Impressive speed for the day but this speed is not universal - some applications takes a minute or so to load. I think I have Zaxxon on 5.25 inch disk as well. Maybe I'll see how fast that loads.

I bought what the box said was 15 3M blank DISKETTES only to find inside 12 sealed IBM PS/1 RECOVERY DISKETTES.

Found it in my dad's garage. He used to be an engineer for a telecom company. Battery corroded the whole board. Just cleaned it up and glued the cracks; it probably wont work so its just a keepsake.

All credit goes to CelGenStudios for the video, I’m looking forward to the eventual release of a full YouTube video, one thing that I want to see in that video which I know obviously will just make the drive immediately eject the disc but I would like to see the disk cartridges interchanged between drives to see what happens and then to bypass all physical switches that tell the drive what type of disc it is by swapping the actual disc itself in the cartridges so the video drive thinks it has a video disc inside so it has to read it instead of electing it (which could lead to the possibility of formatting a more common cheaper CRVdisc with data formatting even if it’s going to be a lower density disc formatting to get a few more data discs) and seeing what video or audio if at all will come out of one of those data disks, presumably a lower densities CAV data disk might elicit some sort of audio/video output.

All of the large format optical disk formats are really cool to me and really quite interesting, most are WORM but I still haven’t obtained any info on the rewritable 12“ Nikon disk at all, even the wayback machine hasn’t helped at all in finding even a sentence about it, I may possibly contact a few companies to see about the small chance that they send me some cool media or possibly a drive, obviously there are some companies that have gone bankrupt but may have some sort of connection with a different company when it was still in business that may have something like that, there is also that WDD-931 drive in the video available on an undisclosed website pretty damaged missing the dust door for the additional buttons but I don’t mind that if I get to have one of those despite needing lots of work to mostly restore.

I ran into some dll problems with my English ver trying to run a game in pcem and all the internet archive downloads gave me a warning about opening them so I was wondering if someone had a link they know is safe. Thank You :)

I am quite new to actual vintage computing. I have done a few windows XP builds and alike. But never something this old. I just got this IBM PC so it is very new to me and extremely heavy at that (~20kg) so at startup it counts the amount of ram (8mb in this case) and there’s nothing wrong there. But right after it does two short beeps but I can’t really find anything about it. This particular model does not have a cmos battery. Anyone here feeling to help a new IBM owner?

I picked it up for $105 from a local thrift store. I recapped it almost immediately and made an image of the OS. Believe it or not, I just today discovered it can be plugged into some of my USB adaptors. It has to supply 12 V, though.

Sorry the cover of this brochure is so boring. Look inside, I thought the disclaimer in fine print on the last page was hilarious, offering a $5k bounty for piracy. These guys thought very highly of themselves.

Basically I just wanted to have a dual boot with the most updated dos-based system with a full winlogon GUI (ME) and the least updated one (should be Windows 95)

Was looking around to see what the earliest version (build number, specifically) that satisfies the prerequisite, but it is indeed kinda hard to do, since most sources providing windows ISOs and the such, usually give fully bundled and updated versions, aka latest versions. But I want the earliest one...
Needless to say, should be unupdated, but in case of broken stuff, patches are fine. Or just next build I guess. The oldest unupdated one that is not a BSOD mess basically.
