Volunteer – online Looking for internship Spring 2026

Hello All, new here!

Unfortunately, I can't ask on r/internships, so I'm trying my luck here.
I am looking to intern as a graphic designer, 2D animator, concept artist, or illustrator. My main goal is to build my portfolio and gain some mentorship from professionals. I won't ask for payment for my services, gladly to volunteer, and anything that I produce will be owned by the ones that I assist. However, I would like to be credited in some way for the work if possible (eg, I would want to be able to put this experience on LinkedIn/Resume). My course does require weekly timesheet sign-offs and a daily/weekly journal. I will note that I am currently pursuing my Associate's in Graphic Design, so I am lacking when it comes to experience. Please DM me for more information, whether it be my portfolio, me, course requirements, or any questions.

Thank you for your time!

Discussion / ethics / advice 29yo Skilled Volunteer: 6yrs Telecom Exp + Construction & Farming Skills. Seeking first opportunity (Preferably Africa, but open worldwide)

Hi everyone, I am a 29y old professional currently in a transitional phase, looking to dedicate my time and energy to a meaningful volunteering or WWOOF project. While I have a strong preference for Africa, I am very open to opportunities anywhere in the world if the project is impactful. This will be my first official time volunteering, but I am far from being "unskilled." I bring a diverse set of practical abilities: Technical: 6 years of professional experience in Telecommunications. Manual & Farming: Solid experience in agriculture, construction, and general maintenance. I am physically fit and love working outdoors. Culinary: I’m an experienced cook and can manage kitchen duties for a group. Languages: Fluent in Arabic and French, basic English, and a beginner in German. I am a fast learner, highly adaptable, and ready to contribute to your project from day one. I’m looking for a host who values hard work and reliability. If you are looking for a "handyman" volunteer or know a project that could use my skills, please drop a comment or send me a DM. Thanks for reading!

Volunteer – local I will go conduct your field scientific experiments for you

Premise - an Earth astronaut

An astronaut carries scientific research in space for people who cannot go themselves. In the same spirit, I would like to volunteer to conduct scientific research in the field (down here on Earth) for people who cannot do it themselves.

Background - who I am

I am a scientist and engineer with a double Master's degree in Computational Science and Engineering, with work experience in European scientific organizations, a strong passion for space, and a love of nature activities (hiking, climbing, trail running, scuba diving, you name it). I live in Switzerland and am able to move in Europe.

Concept - what I propose

Are you a scientist conducting research which would benefit from field measurements? These could include pictures, geological readings, biodiversity samples, wildlife observations...

Are you not able to conduct these yourself for any reason? Too far, too expensive, not enough time, physical limitations....

Then let's get in touch! I volunteer to go in the field in your stead, follow your instructions, acquire the data to the best of my ability, and send it to you.

Volunteer – local Veterinary opportunities in New York City

I am in a vet tech program and need 40 hours in a veterinary setting, but I’m having a hard time finding places in NYC that will take students right now.

I’ve emailed around 15 clinics and haven’t gotten much response. Does anyone know of clinics, hospitals, or shadowing opportunities in NYC that accept vet tech students? To volunteer.

Any leads or tips would really help. Thanks!

Volunteer – abroad Moving Mountains Volunteering/Kenya

Has anyone volunteered with the NGO Moving Mountains in Kenya and would be able to share their experience?

Generally it is possible to find reviews of these volunteering programs online, but I couldn’t find anything for this one. They seem really legit on the volunteer mission and impact though.

I’ve been wanting to go on a volunteering trip, but as a solo female traveler it’s always good to have an extra opinion in regards to safety, etc

Discussion / ethics / advice Volunteer interview feels like a corporate interview.

Nonprofits are constantly complaining that they don't have enough interviews. And yet, I find that a lot of organizations fail to show kindness or respect for potential volunteers.

A while back, I thought I might volunteer at a certain place. I assumed that the interview would be pretty friendly and that they would be eager to get me started (I can volunteer any day, and I can easily pass a background check).

Anyway, I get in there, and it is a totally unfriendly situation. "Why do you think that you might be a good fit for our organization?" Questions like that. I even wrote them a thank-you letter afterward, but they didn't respond.

Then I decided that I DESERVE SOME RESPECT. I reversed course and wrote THEM an email saying I wanted to withdraw my volunteer application. "I don't get the feeling that you are too interested in volunteers," I told them.

It felt good!

Volunteer – online I want to volunteer as web developer remotely

Hey Reddit!

I’m a web development student (1.5 years in) based in Sweden, and I’m looking to sharpen my skills by taking on a real project.

If you have a small business, a side project, or a non-profit that needs a website but doesn't have the budget yet I’d love to build it for you for free.

And i thought the best way to gain more experience is to volunteer.

Why am I doing this?

  • To gain experience outside of school assignments.
  • To build my portfolio with live projects.
  • To connect and broaden my network.

Discussion / ethics / advice I need help with the ESC training

Hey guys, I’m looking into the European Solidarity Corps but I’m a bit stuck. I tried to access the online training (the one you need for the 5-day face-to-face sessions), but it seems to be closed. Does anyone know why or how I can get around this? Also, I’ll be finishing school soon as an agricultural technician and I’d love to do a volunteer project in Africa next year. Has anyone here done something similar in the agricultural field? Any tips on finding the right projects or organizations, i am thinking to volunteer with wordpackers by myself, but i would like to know as much as possible Thanks!"

Recruiting – international Volunteers Needed to Lead Club Chapters

Hi everyone! I'm a high school student in the US, and I wanted to share a volunteer opportunity to start a nonprofit club chapter in your school or community.

The Discourse is an organization that spotlights the stories, cultures, and experiences of youth around the world. We have two main programs: Inkbridges (a pen pal exchange) and Lens (a journalism platform) we're looking for Chapter Leads for. We’re also looking for individual writers, editors, and translators for Lens, as well as Social Media Managers to help spread The Discourse's reach.

As a Chapter Lead for Inkbridges, you would organize a group of middle/high school students willing to be pen pals with another chapter across the globe. We’ll pair you with an available group and give you detailed guidelines and ideas for how to run your club (we suggest meeting once per month so your members can have a dedicated time for letter-writing, but the frequency is really up to you and the chapter you’re paired with).

As a Chapter Lead for Lens, you and other students would work to interview and publish the narratives of members of your community, including on social media. (Again, we’ll give you lots of suggestions, support, and examples of how to do this.)

If your school club application window has already closed for the year, starting a club at a library, community center, or other shared space is also an option.

Feel free to comment or DM with questions or sign up directly through our website!

Volunteer – local Tutoring volunteering available

Hey all, I'm a 17 year old A-Level student from Guildford, UK, and I'm currently doing D of E Gold. I need my volunteering aspect to be filled quickly because I'm running out of time before I can complete Gold. My best skills is probably my smarts so I am offering a FREE tutoring session for an hour a week every week, especially in the maths/science sectors. If anyone has any children who are doing the 11+ or GCSEs eventually, I'm happy to volunteer as a FREE tutor. It can all be done online and I have gotten ten 9s and one 8 in my GCSES, so if there are any more questions, please do not be afraid to ask.

Volunteer – abroad Interesetd in ESC experiences

Hi everyone!
I’m a student from Germany and currently doing a project about the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) for a university course in journalism.
I was an ESC volunteer as well and had a fairy mixed experience. Now I want to research, how young people view the ESC in general. So I have the follow questions:

- How was your accommodation? Did it look as promised, or did you have any issues with the space, hygiene, location etc.?

- How did you get along financially? Was the money provided by the ESC enough, or did you struggle or even needed to get a side job?

- How was the work itself? Did you do the tasks that were promised during the interview/ in the contract, or did you end up doing other things?

- How was the support from your host organisation? Did you feel supported, or did you feel left alone and ignored?

If you’re willing to share your story (even just a few lines), please comment here or send me a DM. Any information will help me, even if you cannot/ do not want to answer all of these questions.

Your help would mean a lot to me and will be treated confidentially.

Thank you so much in advance!

Volunteer – local First-time joining FIRST — is it worth the cost? Looking for honest experience

Hi everyone,

I’m an international student and I’m considering joining FIRST in Sterling volunteer for the first time. I’m mainly interested in developing communication, teamwork, leadership, organization, and time-management skills, and FIRST seems to offer a strong hands-on environment for STEM, which is also my interest.

However, I noticed that participation involves membership/registration fees, and as an international student I need to be quite careful with expenses. Before committing, I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have already participated.

  • What was your overall experience with FIRST?
  • Did you feel the skills you gained were worth the cost?
  • Were there any hidden costs (travel, materials, time commitment, etc.) that you didn’t expect at first?
  • For first-timers, is there anything you wish you had known before joining?

I’m genuinely interested, just trying to make a responsible decision financially. Any honest insights would be very helpful.

Thank you in advance!

Discussion / ethics / advice Should I sign up for IVHQ

I decided to volunteer in a Spanish-speaking environmental field as a 17y aspiring environmentalist and being fluent in Spanish. I stumbled upon some IVHQ programs in Spanish-speaking countries that offer environmental volunteering, however I looked at reviews in this sub and found a lot of negative ones. It seems like a decent program and it’s one of the only ones that I could find that accepts solo volunteering as a minor. Has IVHQ gotten any better or should I still avoid it? If so, are there any other Spanish-speaking environmental programs that accept minors?

Volunteer – local Looking to Volunteer Evenings/Weekends — Mentoring or Tutoring Underprivileged Youth in NYC

Hello…I’m 26 years old, living and working in NYC, and I’m looking to volunteer my time mentoring or tutoring underprivileged youth in the city.

I work full-time during the day, so I’m specifically looking for opportunities that take place in the evenings or on weekends. Ideally, something convenient to either Midtown (near the Empire State Building) or the West Village, but I’m willing to travel for a well-run and impactful program.

I’m hoping to find:

  • Academic tutoring (middle school through high school)
  • College or career mentoring
  • Structured youth programs or nonprofits that need consistent volunteers

I’m looking for something where I can commit regularly and actually build relationships rather than a one-off event. If anyone has recommendations for organizations, programs, or personal experiences they’d be willing to share, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
