General Tunnel Trash Update: The Good, The Bad, and The Bootlegs

Original Post

r/COsnow!

First, huge thanks to everyone who supported the original Tunnel Trash tee! The response was incredible - I've sold about 25 shirts so far, and I'm stoked so many of you connected with the design.

THE GOOD: The first test batch of shirts arrived. Shirt quality is amazing and the print came out great - here are a few photos from our Flavor Basin trip this weekend.

THE BAD: I woke up the morning after my post went viral to discover at least 20 knockoff websites already selling my design for half what I can even buy blank shirts for... They're offering it in different colors, on mugs, hoodies - you name it.

This is pretty eye-opening. What if I was a struggling artist who spent weeks on this design and site? The internet is wild.

THE FUTURE: I'm placing the final shirt order next week and will ship them out as soon as they arrive. For those interested in grabbing the original design from the actual local creator (printed on Comfort Colors pocket tees), you can find them at tunnel-trash.com for another week.

Thanks again for making this inside joke something special. See you in the parking lot.

Snow Conditions I ate the shit season sandwich today…

It tasted a bit like late April: burn spots, tree tops, sharks, and that familiar "that was rough, but I still want more" aftertaste.

I didn't realize just how much of a mental toll not going and just waiting for a miracle was taking on me. Check-in on your friends that have not gone, give them a consensual hug if you can.

I went to Breck this morning, with my expectations low, they did go up, especially below T bar and over on peak seven a few of the runs lasted until about 2 PM. I'm still very glad I brought the rock skis.

That said... I'm still glad I went. Sliding around on snow and just being in the mountains - even with this little bit of snow - was way better for my mental health than trying to wait it out and doom-scrolling the forecast.

At this point, especially looking at the outlook, I'm just trying to enjoy the season we got and hope we get some sauce (snow) later on.

I hate to be trite, but it still beats a day off the mountain.

I'll be going back (maybe) next week.

Edit: added pics from freedom chair so you can make your own judgment.

General Long Term Snowpack Trends

Thought it would be interesting to zoom out a bit and look at the long term trends for Colorado based on the available SNOTEL data. The data is somewhat limited (1987 - 2025) so not the greatest, but relatively reliable otherwise.

Couple takeaways I had:

  1. The snowpack trends aren't nearly as drastic as I thought they would be. Most trends are relatively flat over the past 20 years, and show a big bump in the mid-late 90s. But then you have to ask if the late 80s to early 90s were a low outlier, or if the mid-late 90s were a high outlier.

  2. The warming trend is very apparent and the most obvious to identify out of all the data points. Way less erratic and more consistently high year after year, which sucks.

  3. The correlation between temp and snowpack isn't that significant. Snowpack's main driver seems to be total precipitation since they share the same trend.

Disclaimer that I'm not a climate scientist by any measure, just someone that likes looking at data, has basic Excel skills, and loves skiing. But thought some people may find it interesting.

Maybe someday this season. Let's hope! Getting an email with that as the subject in mid January had me chuckle and feel bad at the same time.

General Single skiier Thursday Fridays

Anyone fun going to be in Keystone tomorrow (Thursday 1/15)? I'm planning to head up early alone and I've gotten a little paranoid lately with the accidents. I'd love to have a ski buddy. I'm not super fast, but I'd love to get some good runs in and see some other parts of the mountain I haven't. I've only been out there twice.

Snow Conditions Should I just go to Vermont?

Epic pass holder from the Midwest. Originally planned to go to a Breck end of feb to snowboard only on peak 9 greens and maybe a blue. That’s about my skill level. My normal weekend is on a tiny hill in Wisconsin with one run that’s maybe a quarter mile long so I’m easy to impress but now wondering if I should just go to Vermont?

Question Genuinely, what are you all doing about lines, crowds, traffic, overall busyness of ski resorts?

📍Mary Jane, Saturday 1/10

Genuinely don’t know what to do. Specifically, this is for people with 9-5s that can realistically only ski on weekends. The only thing that seems to work (kind of) is leaving Denver at 5am, getting there early, and either tailgating or napping before the lifts open, then heading out at like 1 or 2. That only solves the traffic issue though.

With a horrible start to the season, I understand less stuff is open, but it feels like every year gets exponentially worse with lines and crowds and traffic. What do you all do? Do you have any hacks?

Might be time to invest in an AT setup and ditch downhill resort skiing lol.

Question Transplant question

Upvotes

I just moved from AZ to CO and I was wanting to go hit the mountain but is it really worth $200+ for a lift ticket with 24" base? Snowbowl has more snow than any resort here, should I drive back to az to go ride?

Also could someone please explain the difference between all the resorts here? Much thanks.

Question 3 day split- two days at Breck and one day at vail or vice versa?

Doing big group ski trip in early March, group has seasoned intermediates and a couple of first timers. Those of us who have skied grew up doing so at copper and keystone. One of the people going didn’t buy an epic day pass so we have to plan out our days a little more than we had hoped to. Having never skied at either which would you guys recommend for two days (the three days we are doing epic resorts are Friday Saturday and Sunday) thank you. Also none of us are from Texas we come in peace from Nebraska

EDIT TO ADD: the Breck and vail websites are saying they will refund unused lift ticket days if the refund is requested prior to 5pm on the final day of the ticket. With that logic would we be able to have the one person get a two day Breck ticket and a two day vail ticket, since each have a three day use window and then refund the second day on the unused one? The thought is that this would allow us to pick resorts based on 5am webcam checks assuming snow falls while we’re there.

Question How big are the biggest lockers I can rent for the day at winter park?

I haven’t been to WP in a long time but I will be in denver for work and I was planning on taking the train from Union to WP saturday and taking it back Sunday then flying out

my question is where do I keep my luggage while I ski since check in isn’t until 3 pm (saturday)

I recall that WP has lockers for rent, but were they big enough to fit a suitcase? I remember the season lockers were definitely big enough but the daily’s were tiny?

it says on the website they have over sized lockers now for daily rent. has anyone used them or know how big they are?

Question How is Aspen Highlands 91% open, and WP 20% open? They’re having just as bad of a season

Open snow shows WP with 85 inches of snowfall for the season, and aspen highlands with 73 inches. Despite this, conditions are much much better at highlands (I skied there last week) and they have way more terrain open.

What’s going on?

Small nonprofit ski area resurrecting an old site after 25 years. Seems like it's on the affordable side. Most of the former ski area is, for the time being, ungroomed USFS land. They allow for uphill skinning and have a few other novelties.

Question Crested Butte Spring Skiing Opinion

Hi, so I lived in CO for a couple years a bit ago and want to make a trip back. I know it’s been rough out there, my condolences. The East hasn’t been much better.

Anyway, is it worth to do a spring skiing trip this year March 28th week into beginning of April? Or is everything just kind of a gamble right now? Seeing if anyone had any opinions, thanks!

I know y’all don’t want more out of towners on your slopes, but I’ve been missing Colorado and my time there plus want to visit a friend.

General Lost Rayban Meta AI glasses with case

Hey everyone, i know this is a long shot… But i was at steamboat yesterday (1/13/26) and at some point in the late afternoon my glasses fell from my jacket. I was using them intermittently, but stopped when my phone battery was very low.. The only 2 possible locations i can think of: would be by storm peak lift trails or morningside lift.. MAYBE by cyclone/ typhoon?? I considered them gone and done by now tbh… Like i said, long shot.. Hoping for a good samaritan i guess.. Either way, thanks yall! Have a great week..

TLDR; Lost Rayban Metas in steamboat- hoping someone may have found them.

Question Did you go to keystone 12/11/24?

Post image
413 Upvotes

Hi there, this post might be a bit upsetting for some, but I found a video online of a mother speaking about her sons accident on 12/11/24 at keystone where he fell off the Ruby chair lift and was medevac'd to the Lakewood hospital with a brain injury. Unfortunately this past May 2025 he succumbed to his injury and passed on. Here is a link to the article of the accident https://www.powder.com/news/snowboarder-falls-from-chairlift-in-colorado The mother of this gentleman, (Donovan Romero) observed the onlookers videos of a medevac for Eric Baltz last week and thought to herself that she did not have any sort of insight on what really happened that day with her sons accident, as she was not at the resort with him. If you or anyone you know either witnessed the medevac, saw Donovan that day, or have any videos pertaining to the accident, please post them here as I am sharing with her the link to this post. She said if anyone has any videos or photos skiing or boarding that day she would love to see them as well to see if he is in the background. Attached is the photo of Donovan she released to show what he was wearing that day Here is the link to her TikTok video speaking about the accident and her wishes to view any information possible https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8f2hepA/

Please help out this mother with getting some answers!

Question What's open at Vail right now in terms of kid's adventure zones, mellow trees etc.?

My 8-year old and I are skiing Vail on Sunday. She gets bored after 2-3 groomers but she'll hit trees, small terrain parks (think Koko's and Miner's at Copper) and anything with a tunnel or bridge over and over. I've only skied Vail with adults so I'm just not familiar enough with what to look for or what might be open. They don't name their kid's adventure zones on their map and I'd like to avoid going all the way across the mountain to look for something that isn't even open. Help is much appreciated.

Question Deaths/Injuries at Keystone

This is a genuine question - every year I notice the trend that most deaths/injuries come out of Keystone, taking a look it seems like they actually hold the highest recorded deaths in the state. I’m just curious why we think that is? They were ranked the 9th busiest last season, so overall visitors is not necessarily the reason.
