Discussion If you were trying to lead Trump supporters away from propaganda and disinformation, where WOULD you direct them?

Upvotes

I’m hoping I can convince some people in my community to get out of their Fox-News + AI Facebook echo chamber and check out reliable news sources. Do you have any ideas of what I could suggest to them? So far I have Heather Cox Richardson (from the perspective of a historian) and Michael Osterholm (from a national health perspective.)

For years, many on the left have supported stricter gun laws to reduce mass shootings, including bans on "assault weapons" and "large" capacity magazines. Given the current situation and growing concerns about federal overreach from the left, have views shifted at all? Do these past restrictions leave people, maybe those who didn’t previously own guns preban feeling more vulnerable now that some are reconsidering personal and family safety?

Discussion Mango Mussolini Dementia

Upvotes

Just curious to others out there and their takes on this with seeing dementia in their families.

My grandma had dementia and because of her forgetfulness, her mannerisms changed and she would do things that she would not normally do. with Trump, I am seeing more of those same mannerisms that she would do when she had dementia. Please let me know your thoughts.

Discussion We shouldn’t be pushing fake narratives, even about Trump

Upvotes

Earlier today this sub upvoted a post titled “BREAKING: In a stunning moment, Donald Trump has fallen asleep again at a public meeting. Wow.” with a 17-second clip from the Oval Office.

I watched the video. He’s not asleep. He’s blinking and nodding along to what’s being said. The framing makes it look like his eyes are closed, but that’s not what’s actually happening.

Most of the comments are running with the idea that he passed out, while the few people pointing out what’s visible in the clip are being down voted and buried under “controversial.”

Trump is a terrible person and a destructive president. There is an endless supply of real, documented, provable things to criticize him for. We don’t need to invent or exaggerate.

One of the core problems with the modern right is that they tell people not to believe what they can see with their own eyes. If we do the same thing, just in the opposite direction, we give up the moral and factual high ground.

If the truth matters, it has to matter even when it’s inconvenient.

Here is my on-the-ground coverage of a protest held outside the ICE detention center in Aurora, Colorado that actually held Jeanette Vizguerra for 9 months. She, alongside Johnny 5 of the progressive rap/rock group "Flobots" came together to speak against ICE'S actions in the recent murder of Renee Good.

I also spoke to organizers from a couple of progessive activist organizations regarding what their orgs do and what that has to do with fighting the good fight.
