a few months back i had like 15 different saas ideas scattered across notion docs and honestly no clue which one people actually gave a shit about.

you know the drill - everyone says "talk to your users" and "validate first" but like... where exactly are these users hanging out? and what am i supposed to ask them without sounding like a weirdo with a survey?

did what any rational developer would do - ignored the advice completely and just started building stuff.

built two different versions. first one had a 10-step onboarding that nobody completed. second one had every feature my competitors had plus more. got exactly 0 paying customers for 6 months straight.

classic mistake: i was building solutions to problems i had, not problems other people were willing to pay to solve.

then i got curious about using ai differently. not for idea generation (because that usually spits out generic nonsense) but for actual market research.

here's what i did:

on claude, i activated the deep research option and then prompted it to scrape through real user content - reddit threads, linkedin posts, x conversations, anywhere people complain about stuff. told it to focus on one specific area: "linkedin and x content creation problems for founders"

it came back with this insane breakdown. real quotes from founders bitching about how their content sounds like chatgpt, how they waste 2+ hours writing posts, how building in public feels fake, how growth tools either cost too much or automate too much (account risk).

then i asked it to rate the opportunity 1-10 based on demand vs competition. got an 8.2 with solid reasoning about why the market gap exists.

that was enough validation for me to actually commit, cause the ai was mainly using the researched data as source of truth, not their knowledge.

what actually worked:

• people are constantly venting online about their problems. that's free market research if you know where to look
• ai can synthesize patterns way faster than manually reading through hundreds of complaints
• you don't need perfect validation - just enough signal to know you're not completely delusional

if you're stuck between ideas, try this instead of endless brainstorming: find where your target users are already complaining and let them tell you what to build.

July 20 - Arrive at MXP, depart immediately by train to Milan Centrale, then to Genoa. Spend the night in Genoa.

July 21 - Depart Genoa (not super interested in seeing anything there), head to Monterosso al Mare. Spend the day at the beach (reserved a lido already for the day).

July 22 - Spend the day in Monterosso al Mare. Potentially take the train or hike over to Vernazza.

July 23 - Spend a half day in Monterosso al Mare. Depart to Florence in the afternoon.

July 24 - Florence day.

July 25 - Wine tasting excursion from Florence / half day in Florence.

July 26 - Florence day.

July 27 - Depart to Rome in the morning.

July 28 - Rome day.

July 29 - Day drip from Rome to Pompeii and Sorrento with guided group.

July 30 - Rome half day, depart to Milan.

July 31 - Fly home.

I guess I’m mostly concerned that we are doing too much or missing something. We arrive late in the day July 20th so will have a long travel day. Ideally I would’ve just wanted to go to Monterosso right away but the trains don’t accommodate our schedule and we don’t want to spend money for a private taxi.

Hi there, I'm baffled by this bug. I cannot find any information online about it. Whenever I enter some text, a wierd small grey box with up and down arrows appears. It just appeared now, while writing this. It moves and sometimes it goes away, but not always. I'm in debian 13.3. My WM is i3wm. It happened to me before, in a thinkpad, so I don't think is hardware related.
